Hebrews 7:5-16 (KJV)
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
[SUP]6 [/SUP]But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
So now that we have the capability to understand the spiritual aspects of the carnal commandment, what portion of our accumulated assets are we willing to give back to God that He has given to us? I'm not speaking of money. I speaking of all things given to us. Or do you really think that this commandment of tithing ceased in its spiritual application? If you give of yourself, you are following the commandment in the spiritual application of its original intent.
Matthew 22:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP]They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
Romans 3:31 (KJV)
[SUP]31 [/SUP]Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
God's ordinance of tithing was for sustenance. As I quoted before, James states the tithing very well. If you cannot see the spiritual significance, your argument is in vain.
James 1:27 (KJV)
[SUP]27 [/SUP]Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Romans 8:6-7 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP]For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
If all you can do is look at the carnal commandments, and argue against them, then I present you this scripture, and exhort you to pray for spiritual understanding, for man shall live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Jesus also quoted that commandment in the law to Satan.
Hebrews 4:1 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
