So in my last thread i asked whats your favourite Passage and this was mine

[h=3]Galatians 5:22-26[/h]

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

The fruits i need to work on at this particular moment (besides all of them - as we are always having to work on these fruits) is:

Patience, Self-control, Peace - these are the once i would like to concentrate on for a month

Why a month you as - well it can take 21 days to make/break a habit,, so i try to improve myself for a month (on fruit at a time), then it will stick - with ongoing work of course :)

It's a noble goal to want to grow in character and become a better person, so forgive me if I sound slightly nit picky and discouraging here. This passage is about the FRUIT (singular by the way but most people miss that) of the SPIRIT. In other words these are the things that the Spirit produces in our lives and they are all interconnected. We may be able to create some better growth conditions, but we cannot make the fruit grow. Also I think to focus on fruit may be a misplaced focus as the key ingredient is the spirit, so focus on God who by his spirit is the source of the fruit. Seek to grow in the Lord, ask him to reveal to you when you are less peaceful, patient, and controlled than he would have you be, but don't think of this as some self improvement scheme where you are going to cause the fruit of the spirit to grow by your own effort.

Here's another great growth passage from 2 Peter 1 (it even mentions self control and patient endurance):

3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. 8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What's Your Favourite Bible Passage? :)[/h]
I actually have 5, that lead on from one another :)

Galatians 5:22-26

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23gentleness and self-control. The fruits will grow - by the way you live your life - if you are not living the god wants you too - those fruits will not grow. this is what god tells us

Also you have taken this too literally....i'm trying to be a better person in life in general and these fruits - help you to tbe this person as well as GOD

also the question states - what do you need to work on - its a general question - not biblical

Fruit is not something we work on and create. It is the natural product of living a Spirit filled life. So if you wish to increase the amount of fruit you bear, your concentration should be on walking fully in the Spirit. That is the fertilizer, if you will, that brings fruit to bear.

I do luv on here that you cant even ask a general question -without people delving deep and making the question more that what it was meant to be, and we can work on the fruits in how we walk with god and conduct ourselves, i think i will move this thread into the random part - as you are going to biblical and technical than what it was meant to be -

i do agree to a point but we DO have to work on being kind and patient, joyful, self control etc - God tells us that, we do that by following god and how we treat others and how we live our lives -

i also should point out i tend down the route of evangelism - and this was taught to me from watching Joyce Meyer, if you have a difference of opinion, thats fine, but maybe you should take the post for what it is - asking what fruit you would like to work, no need for correcting or going deep biblical - this is a fun thing to do - to see where in your life you need work -

What else did you expect when you posted in the Bible Argument Discussion Forum ?

I love it on here how people ask a question, then discount an answer because it didn't fall into the parameters of their expected response.

Trying to produce fruit without walking in the Spirit is like trying put gas in your tank without stopping at a refueling station. You can't just manufacture it out of goodwill and sheer determination.

So, what fruit do I need to work on? All of them. But I'm not going to take a month trying to coerce myself into one of them. I'm going to take a lifetime in the Spirit to continually grow and ripen all of them.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

I agree that fruits of the Spirit are not something we achieve by efforts. Otherwise they wouldn't be fruits. The more we walk in the Spirit, the more these fruits are beared. A vine doesn't work to produce grapes, it grows automatically because it's part of the vine. So, they are characteristics of a Spirit filled believer.

Yes, all great points, guys. But I think many of you could be a bit more welcoming of Cindles.

I need to work on all of them but my main growing areas are Peace, Gentleness and Self-control.

i have said in previous posts that you need to walk with god in order to full have the fruits??????

unfortunatley their are people who walk with god - but their fruits are not good - so i do believe that efforst comes into it as well as GOD

thanks tintin, that was all the post meant - i know that god has given me these fruits and the more i walk with him the more i grow - but also know the more I work on those fruits - the closer i will be to living gods life the way he wanted me too

Yes you did, but then you talked like you could just will-power it. Kinda conflicting. Maybe it's the fact that it's 1:30 am here and I really should be in bed!

No offense intended, sorry if you took some.

Hi cindles,

Good trees don't produce bad fruit, vise versa (Matt. 7:17-20). If someone isn't producing any fruit, we can't really say they walk with God.

I also recommend you not to listen to Joyce Meyers, she teaches false stuff - just saying :)

True point made here.
If we're going to run the race then run the race to win the prize.
At the same time we must also give all glory to the giver of the prize.
This is the reason for the race to begin with.
rather than a competition against others, i view this as a race against time, before time runs out.

This calls for setting aside time for him in our strict training.
We should all look closely at verse 25 here in 1 Corinthians 9 (Strict training, as opposed to casual)

Strict training is a discipline that comes from a repeated practice of habit.
It takes our effort too in cooperation with God.

SELF DISCIPLINE:
24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
26Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.
27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
