I think that is a fair point but it seems to be very biased on the side of not giving putting religion on display. As such, I will have to focus on countering the strong argument you have given. As an admin, surely you have seen cases where this information would have been (or could be) helpful.

Yes, there are people who can lie about stuff, but is there really such a large number of senior members who have been lying and trolling with their advice during the extent of their membership? Isn't it mostly new members who get banned after a couple of weeks of playing around on the forums? If this is so, then doesn't the fact that someone has remained a Christian, been on the site a long time, & etc, & etc, contributeto the reliability of the person's statements?

Isn't the whole point of what is on the display to give folks a hint of what the person's reputation or dependability is who is speaking?

And if all these things are true, then why not put it on display?

This is a good idea you people have, if we know people's religion we know how to approach them and how sensitive to be as well as biased or cautious.

No, seriously, my comment did make sense. In Job 38: 19-21 we hear God talking to Job from a thunderstorm. Maybe He was being a sarcastic to Job, but that doesn't mean WE'RE allowed to be sarcastic aswell. Or like the ancient Romans used to say: Quod licet Iovi non licet bovi. ;)

No. If we are imitators of God, then we can do what He does. Logic doesn't dictate that God has to be a Christian for His behavior to be "Christianlike".

I'll buy that. I do think sarcasm has its place, but your point is valid. I was mainly countering Markmulder's offensive behavior anyway :D

First of all it's inward and spiritual. The Lord gives a new heart, first and foremost. Paul to the Philippians speaks of the 'inner man'.

Having said this, sometimes people like to wear labels or badges. Whether in the form of an explanatory phrase or whatever. Some people wear a badge or flag in their lapels. Others have tattoos, some of which may be faith based. The point of an outward sign is to be a help as a conversation-starter.

This is not the time for that discussion. In the military we have dog tags that have our religion on it. I didn't complain and say "I don't have a religion! I have a living relationship with Jesus Christ!" I just put Christian there.

If you give people a category to put themselves in, it helps people to identify the background of the person talking to you. Surely you don't think a person who claims to be a Buddhist is the same as a person who claims to be a Christian? If that's not the case then how is religion irrelevant?

Fair enough. But at least recognize that they are separate issues. I don't come to "Save the Rainforest" parties saying "Whoah whoah. It's all about Jesus guys. You need to stop taking focus off of Him." Okay okay, well yes I believe it's all about Jesus, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about saving the rainforest.

Our zeal should be checked by both love and knowledge.
