BTW I'm not against resting one day out of seven (I'd hate to have no rest day), it's just trying to turn it into a command for the church is what is misguided.

I hear that a lot. Usually comes from those who will rest on any day BUT the seventh day.

My point was, you can't connect the Creation Sabbath to the one given to Moses because...
1. different Hebrew words.
2. no command is attached to God resting in Genesis.
It may be a pattern for the Mosaic Shabbat but it does not follow it is of any command for all to rest on a 7th Day.

BTW I'm not against resting one day out of seven (I'd hate to have no rest day), it's just trying to turn it into a command for the church is what is misguided.
Let's see if they are related:
Ex 20:8-11 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Good to know you are not against others taking this day off though :)

Colossians 2:16-17
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Working at the law was a shadow of things to come. Walking according to the spirit is the way of Christ.

But, you argue, we don't kill people and that is obeying the commandments. Sure. Walking according to the Spirit is much more stringent than walking according to the flesh.

According to the flesh we don't kill. According to the spirit we love, even being angry against people without a cause is against the Spirit.

According to the flesh we rest on saturdays. According to the spirit we rest in the finished work of Christ every day.

Galatians 3:2-5
[SUP]2 [/SUP]This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

If we are resting in the finished work of Christ are we going to continue to be foolish and keep trying to work at the law? Or are we going to become wise and continue in the Spirit?

Nothing like misquoting scripture to make it say what you want. It says "are a shadow of things to come" and was written twenty-some years AFTER the death, burial and resurrection. They are still looking forward to the Millenial reign of Christ at His return.

No, again you are misrepresenting the scripture, being angry without a cause is a violation of the sixth Commandment...

Mat 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Mat 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
Mat 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Mat 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Mat 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

According to the flesh we rest on saturdays. According to the spirit we rest in the finished work of Christ every day.

And when do you work?

No one here is saying that obedience to the Law justifies a person, I full well believe that...

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

I also know and know that I know, that wanton disregard for God's Law does not justify, it kills.

If one means "God's REST" will last forever...........then I fully agree. However time will come to an end, thus days will come to an end...........just saying

[h=3]Isaiah 66:23[/h]21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

[SUP]23 [/SUP]And it shall come to pass that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me,” saith the Lord.

I invite you to read the chapter 66 in Isaiah.

I mentioned this is the other on-going thread about the Sabbath...

I would like to hear the non-Sabbath keeping crowd quote God or Jesus' words on the Sabbath and the Law; not solely Paul's.

Jesus never tried to be a Levitic priest, He was of the tribe of Judah, wrong tribe; Isn't God forewarning them, perfection is not coming thru the O.T. law. SO LOOK, for Big changes. Jesus said He was bring in the New Covenant ,big change, Jesus said, you don't put My new Cov. in the old Cov. skins, they can not contain the radical change. Jesus said, I am fulfilling he old laws , and many will be obsolete. Jesus said, you have perverted the old cov. laws and your sabbath day, the one based on creation, I will give you a new sabbath day based on my resurrection day, Sunday., I am correcting your errors and the imperfect ways of the old Cov. It is very clear, Jesus wanted and was making BIG changes. Jesus looked at the beautiful temple and said this is coming down, there will be not more sacrifices, no alter. Two times before God said "away with your polluted offerings", you don't have the right heart attitude to make sacrifices, your sac. is no good. I will send My perfect SON to be the REAL offering I desire, this is my eternal Cov. of grace to the whole world. Only the "elect" "born again" ones can make the real sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving I want, your house is now desolate. Jesus said, the OTHER SHEEP, Geniles, I will bring into the Jewish fold, and make them one with you saved, elect Jews. this is my eternal cov. I am doing away with the old cov. Jesus said ,I have many things to tell, you can not receive them now, the Spirit of truth, will tell you of the full, new Cov. trues. HOW much more proof does any one need? AND PAUL and the others, were inspired of God to reveal Jesus' new Cov. trues to the disciples and to the whole Gentile world, the universal, eternal Sabbath, pictured in Jesus finished work, and with out the Sunday resurrection there is no New Cov. Jesus deserves a NEW DAY and the new laws of Jesus, are universal, no longer just for the Jews.; But for the universal Church of God. Love to all, Hoffco

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

"or of the Sabbath days" includes the Sat. Sab. day. No one is allow to argue for any day or feast of the O.T. law. None of the O.T. days and feasts are allowed in the New Covenant in Jesus blood, Jesus make a totally new Cov.. What is better than to follow the Apostles practice of the Sunday rest day, with no O.T. restrictions, Just a pure day of rest and enjoyment in Christ, doing worship and play as we wish, for our rest, break, and relaxation, remembering Christ and our loved ones. "1st. day of the week when you gather" as the early Church did,! In honer of Jesus work of recreation. Remember the eternal rest day is yet to come on the new earth, which will be ,everyday. Love, Hoffco

Lets look at this logically.

Jesus said:

Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
Mar 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Question:

1. when was the Sabbath made?
2. who was the Sabbath made for?
3. who is Lord of the Sabbath/who made it?

Answer:

1. the Sabbath was made on the 7th day after Creation. Gen 2:2,3
2. the verse above clearly shows that it was made for all mankind.
3. Jesus is the son of man He made the Sabbath and created the world. Col 1:16,17; John 1:3

So Jesus made the Sabbath and he made it for all mankind and He made it before sin came into the world.

Question why did Jesus come to earth as a human?

Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Answer:

Jesus came to deal with the Devil and sin to forgive sins etc.

But we have established that the Sabbath was made before sin as seen in Genesis. Thus nothing that Jesus did was to undo or change this.

Notice even the commandment:

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Notice we are told to "remember" the Sabbath.

Question which Sabbath are we to remember?

Answer:

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The one God made before sin.

Notice we are asked to keep it Holy not make it Holy.

Question: when was it made Holy?

Answer:

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

It was sanctified/made Holy on the 7th day after creation.

Thus it is clearly seen that the Sabbath commandment was given to remind of the fact that God blessed and made that day Holy before sin entered into the world.

What have wee seen here?

Jesus made the Sabbath day for mankind before the Sin came into the world. Jesus came to deal with sin and its affect which means he did not come to change the Sabbath because the Sabbath is pre-sin. Jesus did not come to change his own perfect works but to destroy the devils sinful works.

Blessings.

...............................

Not for nothing, but your comment has nothing to do with my comment. Do you not know that there is a day of reckoning coming? A day when time will end? The day Jesus returns and Judgment will begin for the unbelievers? Do you believe that there will be "days" in Heaven? Seriously?

................. (goodness) ..............

I need to know the answered brother? it interesting but I am never study about Jewish Calendar. And what is the correlation with the topic?

The Topic is the Sabbath............and many here speak of the 7th day.......on which God rested..........in Genesis.....

Yes Genesis has a pattern but I see no command in Genesis for mankind in general.

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh (7637. sh@biy`iy) day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested (7673. shabath) on the seventh (7637. sh@biy`iy) day from all his work which he had made.

Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh (7637. sh@biy`iy) day, and sanctified (6942. qadash) it: because that in it he had rested (7673. shabath) from all his work which God created and made.

Questions:

Where are the words "Sabbath day" in those two verses?

Who "rested" on the SEVENTH day?

Which "day" did God sanctify?
Strong's Hebrew Dictionary
7637. sh@biy`iy
sh@biy`iy sheb-ee-ee'

or shbi iy {sheb-ee-ee'}; ordinal from 7657; seventh:--seventh (time).

Strong's Hebrew Dictionary
7673. shabath
shabath shaw-bath'

a primitive root; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causative, figurative or specific):--(cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep (sabbath), suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

Strong's Hebrew Dictionary
6942. qadash
qadash kaw-dash'

a primitive root; to be (causatively, make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally):--appoint, bid, consecrate, dedicate, defile, hallow, (be, keep) holy(-er, place), keep, prepare, proclaim, purify, sanctify(-ied one, self), X wholly.
God rested on and sanctified (set apart) the SEVENTH day...therefore, the SEVENTH day in Genesis 2:2-3, is God's rest (shabath), NOT man's.

Yes Genesis has a pattern but I see no command in Genesis for mankind in general.

Genesis has no command "Thou shalt not kill" yet Cain knew it was wrong. Just because there is no set of commandments as in Exodus 20 does not mean it was not kept or they did not know about it.

Ms. Linda70: Do you see a distinction between the Jewish ceremonial Sabbath (which for the Christian is presumably abrogated) and the Lord's Day, the first day of the week when the disciples met together to break bread?

It's interesting that the Resurrection corresponds to the Feast of Firstfruits, and the Lord Jesus is the Firstfruits of them that slept, and we are now privileged to be in the fulness of revelation in Him rather than still under types and shadows.

(I'm a dispensationalist, as it happens.)

Blessings.
