"Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved"

That is what Paul told the jailer. Pretty sure Paul knew what he was talking about. That's all, and exactly, what he said: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ"

"Then Simon himself believed also"............Simon fulfilled all requirements laid out by Christ and relayed by Paul. Simon was saved at that moment.

That is bible. That is not a parable. That is indisputable. That is Paul's gospel that he obtained directly from Christ.

It is a first step - we must believe in Jesus but it does not stop there by beholding we change meaning we yield our will submit say yes to the salvation choose the sacrifice Jesus made then we receive the Holy Spirit and get the gift of repentance and ability to abide in Jesus with His blood covering our sins. Because we love Him we will then share the gospel with others.

A man once said it's one thing to believe Jesus, and its another to believe in Jesus.

Phil, I believe that the problem here is a misunderstanding of the word "believe". What does it mean to believe?
Billy, it means to put your trust in. Hope this helps you to understand now.

Yes that's what Paul told the jailer. But lets follow this through...

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

If the jailer believes he will be saved and thy house? We need to look further...

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Now we have a more clear picture...

1. They all were gathered at the house.
2. Jesus was preached unto them
3. Somewhere in preaching Jesus, water baptism was preached
4. They were in the house and went outside of the house to be baptized
5. They returned back inside the house

Jesus said to Nicodemous...

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Remember water and spirit. lets continue...

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Question: Why didn't Peter lead them through a sinner's prayer? Why didn't Peter say to accept Jesus as their personal saviour? Why didn't he say to simply "believe"? If there was ever a time to do all that, this certainly would have been it.

That is what happened on the birth day of the New Testament Church. The New Testament Plan for Salvation has not altered, it remains the same.

Let's turn to the book of Matthew...

Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
[25] For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

If we are to take up our cross and follow Jesus we would have to do what he did. We would have to symbolize his death, burial, and resurrection. And, that is exactly what Peter said to do.

1. Repent = symbolic death
2. Be water baptized = symbolic burial
3. Receive Holy Spirit = symbolic resurrection

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

God bless!

Yes that's what Paul told the jailer. But lets follow this through.............................
And your point is? Did everything that happened after he believed save him? Or are you saying by all those things occurring he got "more" saved somehow?
Nothing you said modifies or eliminates the simple fact that he was told to "believe" to be saved.

The only way to be saved is to be Born Again (the Bible way). And, being born again is not simply to believe.

Jesus said to Nicodemus...

Peter cross referenced that...

Water baptism was preached at the jailer's house. Water baptism is for the remission of sin.

Water baptism alone does not save, however it is part of what does save, which is the Death, Burial, Resurrection.

God bless!

Clearly you are the one who doesn't understand what believe means. To put trust in Christ as your saviour is to believe. At the moment of believing one is saved. It IS NOT a process. Growing in the word and the Spirit IS a process, but you can't do that UNTIL you are saved.
So you also, are one of those that think Paul didn't really understand what he was teaching, that he needs someone 2000 years later to help explain it. Do you have any idea how arrogant one is to think such a thing?

People get so long winded.

What does it take to be saved?

Answer: One sinner.
Without a sinner Jesus can't save anyone.

Good Crossnote, the house of God is made up of harlot,s, drunkards, pimps, drug dealers, murders, baby killers, pedophiles, children abusers that have come and knelt at the cross.

Eph. 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."

not "through faith and -insert good work here-..."

Rom. 10:9-10, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; [SUP]10[/SUP]for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

not "confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and -insert good work here-...."

I still think baptism is vital however, but it does not save. Obedience (even baptism), study, prayer, repentance, etc. all follow salvation, but do not cause it.

What these God Loving people can't get through their heads is that baptism is nothing without the cross. If not for the cross, baptism would not mean a thing.

There was a young rich man who asked Jesus that

know what Jesus said?

1. Ask Jsus for forgiveness fo past sins Give your whole life to JEsus from now until forever
2. Read study and follow the entire Bible
3. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (word of God)
to believe it is to do it

4. Keep the conmmandments - you cant do this by yourself,
but if you are born again you can keep every commandment. Abrahm Moses Elizabeth JEsus enoch and others did that no problem.
5. You must be born again of the spirit
6. Recieve the NEW COVENANT, the holy spirit writes the ten commanments on your heart...
7. Sell all that you have and give to the poor, and
8. Follow Jesus the word of God.

And you will inherit eternal life

That is the Gospel

Gal 1:7 but there be some that trouble you,
and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord (BIBLE), and to all that were in his house.

Luke 18:18 And a very Rich young ruler asked him, saying,
Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Luke 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments,
Do not commit adultery, Do not kill,
Do not steal, Do not bear false witness,
Honour thy father and thy mother.

Luke 18:21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

Luke 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him,

Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast,
and distribute unto the poor,
and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
and come, follow me.

Luke 18:23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Luke 18:24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Luke 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Heb 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will (every word and commandment in the word of God), working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

When JEsus walked the earth, would you have been a disciple?
He told them,
Follow me. Give up your lives stop fishing stop working the fileds stop burying your father sell all that you have and give that to the poor, and then
come and follow me.

covetousness is commandment 10
you cannot be a disciple while you own anything

most people are richer than the rich young ruler, and they wont do it either.

Close, the only requirement is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and confess with your mouth. Nothing else is stated.

But men will say, her is my list of rules and if break one, then Jesus lied to you and you just thought you were saved or you can't truly be saved until a pastor sticks your head under water and then you might be saved because they have their list of rules as well.
