well, it depends upon how far along you've been without food, honestly.
speaking from experience, once you've been fasting for a day or so, pretty much all hunger dissipates and as long as you had water, you can go quite awhile before you're at risk for starvation.
that said, i really don't think people realize that IF you're at that place where starvation is imminent, making a conscious choice probably isn't even the situation.
our bodies are deeply ingrained with survival instincts, and i would assume that were that the case, your overwhelming sense of hunger (i.e. your brain being starved of glucose) would override your "dignity" and whatever reservations you, as a well-fed person could possibly conceive of.
