Begin rant.
I have noticed that when I put "Christianity and Very Serious About It" as my religion on certain dating websites, and then message people, they automatically see this picture of who I am based on a stereotype that exists in America. They don't even read the profile, all they can see is the stereotype and ignore me from that point on.
What stereotype am I talking about?
That since I'm a Christian and serious about it,
A: I'm insane and not very smart because I believe this in the technologically advanced 21st century
B: I believe everything that the extreme right believes, including the viewpoints of Adolf Hitler
C: I'm a Republican, and love guns and etc.
D: Fill in your own stereotypes here because I think you know what I'm talking about, and I'm afraid to offend someone. Haha.
The problem is, I only claimed to believe in Jesus Christ, I said nothing about my political and etc beliefs. People should not assume anything about me, except what I clearly stated, which is my belief in Jesus.
Rant over.
Has anyone else experienced this type of stereotyping on dating websites? Come on tell your funny stories.
P.S. A few days ago, it got so bad that I actually removed my religion status from the dating site. Then I felt bad, and felt like I'm betraying God. So I finally put it back to "Christianity and Very Serious About it" because its true, and I'm not lying to God and to myself. If they are not smart enough to see past stereotypes, and if their whole worldview is based on stereotypes, I feel extremely sorry for them. I'm not changing it again.
