Calvinism and Eternal Security

As I have said before, I am not arguing here for eternal security based on Calvinism. The Bible is the authority, not Calvin. Also, while election & predestination are truly Bible doctrines, Christians disagree on the interpretation of them. Calvinism is generally defined by the TULIP; if you believe all those letters, you are a 5 point Calvinist. But even so-called 2 Point Calvinists believe in eternal security.

My point is that you don't have to buy all of the TULIP to believe in eternal security. And I think it can be a distraction to the simple observation that the Bible teaches eternal security. In fact Salvation entails eternal security to the extent that the Lord Jesus really saves, and does not just give us a chance to be saved.

Actually election and predestination are the Lord's business. Man's business is to believe.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. So someone asks, how can a dead man believe? Would not the Lord have to first regenerate Him so that He believes?

Regardless of what you think about that one,

for some reason the Lord did not utter John 3:16 this way:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever has everlasting life should not perish,
but believe in Him.

So if you think you can, figure out election and predestination the best you can. For me it causes humility to the saved person to realize that he was sought by the Lord and chosen by the Lord. But however you think you have election figured out,

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.
The Spirit and the Bride say Come -- whoever is willing.

Trust Him wholly with your eternal destiny.
He loves you and died for you.

"And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He Who calls you, Who will also do it.

Commit thy way unto YHWH;
Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,
And thy justice as the noonday.
Rest in YHWH and wait patiently for him:

Well sinnner, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
But as 1 John tells us, perfect love casts out fear.

See if you can plug in to the love of Christ:
The love of Christ constrains me.

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

If you do not have a sound mind, But fear.

1. God is not your abba Father
2. God has not given yuo his spirit of adoption
3. God has not given you the spirit of power, and love and a sound mind.

1 John 4:17
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

If you do not have confidence to face God on judgment day (Based on his love) You have not had Gods love perfected in you. which occures the moment of salvation

Shall we sign:

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And Grace my fear relieved.
How precious did that grace appear,
the hour I first believed.

Eternal Security Comes from God's Help

It is a great topic, "How Much Help Is the Lord Willing To Give To a Christian?"

When the Lord planned Noah's Ark, the people entered and YHWH shut the door. He did not put 8 nails on the outside of the ark for the schnooks to hold on to.

All my bones shall say, YHWH, who is like unto thee,
Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,

Does anyone imagine that he is strong enough to defeat the world, the flesh, & the devil?

Rom 7 exposes the weakness of the Christian, defeated by his flesh (his old man).

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good. So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good is not. For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise. But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is a Savior that you can trust with your eternal destiny. He is able to deliver you.

Sing it!

What have I to dread,
What have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms!
. . .
Safe & secure from all alarms.

Thou shalt call His name Jesus,
for He shall save His people from their sins.

He Delivers Our Soul from Death

Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him,
Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;
To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul hath waited for Jehovah:
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart shall rejoice in him,
Because we have trusted in his holy name.
Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in thee.

Do you trust in His holy name, in the name of Jesus?
(Yehoshua' = YHWH-salvation).
Is your firm expectation (hope) in Him?

"And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He Who calls you, Who will also do it."

Do You Fear Hell Fire?

I sought YHWH, and he answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked unto him, and were radiant;
And their faces shall never be confounded.
This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
Malach-YHWH encamps round about them that fear him,
And delivereth them.
Oh taste and see that YHWH is good:
Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him.

Malach = messenger, sometimes used of angels; Malachi = my messenger. Evidently the Malach-YHWH in the OT = the Lord Jesus.

He surrounds the believer.
John 10:27-29
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.

How Much Help Can You Get from the Lord?

Eternal Security is part the the help a Christian gets from the Lord. And it is a gift that the Lord gives to the sinner who trusts the Lord Jesus as Savior (not "chance-giver").

Commit thy way to YHWH;
Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,
And thy justice as the noonday.
Rest in YHWH - Ps 37

Have you asked Him in faith to make your righteousness to go forth as the light and your justice as the noonday?

Does not this verse look to the ultimate glorification of the believer?
"He will bring it to pass."

The golden chain reaction of Rom 8:

For whom
he foreknew,
he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: and whom
he foreordained, them
he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom
he justified, them
he also glorified.

foreknew >foreordained >called >justified >glorified.

Trust also in the Lord Jesus, and He will bring it to pass.

Thou shalt call His name Jesus,
for He shall save His people from their sins.

It is fine for you to tickle your brain and perhaps strain out something that resembles faith but Almighty God is sovereign and holy and He must touch your reins and your heart.

ES Includes Guaranteed 1st Class Housing

How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God!
And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house;
And thou wilt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. - Ps 36

Question is, have you taken refuge? Have you trusted Christ as Savior, rather than as "chance-giver"?

Surely goodness & mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
- Ps 23

[Note how it doesn't say that he has a shot at it, but "I shall."]

This reminds of Rom 8 where all things work together for good to them who love the Lord & the golden-chain reaction is assured, from foreknown through justified to glorified.

Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many dwelling-places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

being a disciple does not mean you are saved, a disciple is a follower. you can follow someone and not trust them (faith) they walked away because they did not have faith.

notice what peter said, You have the WORDS of ETERNAL LIFE. Peter had faith, he stated because of his faith.

some people amaze me to the lengths they will go to make their belief system appear true.. I guess when you need it, you havre too. Oh well. so be it.

To blow a hole, NewB, you have to find a verse on topic that says like, "lose salvation," or "lose faith." Neither does your passage say, "free choice."

You take passages that don't address the issue directly, and try to infer something. Just take God's word as it is. Do you have something against being Saved (& not merely given a chance?) Is human will your idol?

Apostasy is a fact, explained in Heb 6:9 & John 2; apostasy proves you were never part of Christ's body, never saved.

We have a sin problem, but the Lord has promised to cure His people of that problem.

Thou shalt call His name Jesus,

Re: Calvinism and Eternal Security

Atwood,

As I have said before, I am not arguing here for eternal security based on Calvinism. The Bible is the authority, not Calvin. Also, while election & predestination are truly Bible doctrines, Christians disagree on the interpretation of them. Calvinism is generally defined by the TULIP; if you believe all those letters, you are a 5 point Calvinist. But even so-called 2 Point Calvinists believe in eternal security.
that is what Calvin said also. But we know that nothing of Calvinism existed prior to his theological system. It finds it root is Augustinianism who ebodied pagan ideas with christian and biblical connotations. There could be nothing further from the truth than Calvinism.

What is even more bizarre is to think that one can take a single tenet, or two, that is based on the premise of predestination and assume it will align with scripture. That is worse then being a Calvinist.

Eternal Security has never been a teaching of scripture. You will find nothing regarding it until Calvin and only in Calvinism does it exist as part of a logical system, even though the system is not biblical. It denies everything that Christianity embodies, from the concept of God, a loving, mercifull God, to one who directly interacts within His creation. It denies the very purpose of God creating man and interacting directly with him. All of the atenuating doctrines that you have expoused that are man made make it the very antithesis of Scripture and Christianity.

Eternal Security as you are even using it and addressing it to salvation is of itself erroneous because it has to do with attaining eternal life which was the purpose of salvation of the world and mankind.

The fact that you can even say that one can pick and choose certain things is a categorical denial of the Gospel of Christ. One accepts His Gospel or rejects it. Man does not have the authority to devise his own system, though that is what man does as a sola scripturist. You are a very good example of that practice and of isolating a false teaching to such an extent that most of the rest of scripture becomes null and void.

As understood within the Calvinistic system it does not exist in scripture. If election and predestination is actually a teaching of scripture as understood by Calvinists, then believing is not even necessary. One has been preselected to salvation, God intervenes to cause man to irresistably believe which becomes nothing more than a benign concept. It surely is not of a God that loves all men, that gave His life for the world.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever has everlasting life should not perish,
but believe in Him.
So if you think you can, figure out election and predestination the best you can. For me it causes humility to the saved person to realize that he was sought by the Lord and chosen by the Lord. But however you think you have election figured out,
ONe does not need to figure it out or understand it. It just does not exist in scripture as Calvinist upholds. It is purely a figment of Calvin's sectarian, philosophical system for a religion.

Trust Him wholly with your eternal destiny.
He loves you and died for you.
which is a contradiction to Calvinism because God loves mankind, He loves the World He created thus the reason He died for all men and saved all men from the power of Satan, death.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.
The Spirit and the Bride say Come -- whoever is willing.
which is a denial of three tenets of Calvinism. Election, irresistable grace and perseverance of the saints.
None of those tenets allow for willingly, freely.

"And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He Who calls you, Who will also do it.
a half truth because God does not give to swine what He has reserved for those that love Him. YOu consistantly deny that willingness, freely of man to join and to leave of his own free will. God does not force man to believe, inspite of what Calvin states, nor does He force man to remain, inspite of what Calvin states.

Commit thy way unto YHWH;
Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,
And thy justice as the noonday.
Rest in YHWH and wait patiently for him:
again a half-truth. Man must commit but also must remain faithful. He must continually trust. But unlike Calvinism, God gave man the freedom to decide and to remain. For that man will be judged. Under Calvinism there is absolutely no reason for God to judge, He decreed their salvation before they existed.

Calvinism is completely incompatible with scripture. It is wholly a philosophical system of a religion that is alien to Christianity, in spite of the fact it is supposedly derived from a text, called the Bible. But then that same text has fostered unnumbered other theories, doctrines, denominations untold as well, as many as man can dream up.

Whatever you want to believe is surely up to each and every person. One can either accept the Gospel as Christ gave it, reject it outright, or devise a system more to his intellectual liking and intellectual accumen. You are doing great with that intellectual accumen, Atwood.

neither your do yours say OSAO,OSS,ES...
You quote nothing for losing salvation, losing faith or "free will." You don't prove who were or weren't bound by satan to his will. The whole world lies in the lap of satan.

Sing it:

"I wish by golly I,
Could spread my wings & fly;
& let my grounded soul be free for just a little while . . .

Free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty I am free at last!

There are plenty that assert eternal security; once saved, saved!

He Who began a good work in you will complete it, etc.

1 Thes 5 end:

"And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He Who calls you, Who will also do it.

Col 3
If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth. For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.

2 Thes 2:16
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
End of Rom 8:
And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. For whom
he foreknew,
he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: and whom
he foreordained, them
he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom
he justified, them
he also glorified.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 3He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth; who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Even as it is written,
For thy sake we are killed all the day long;
We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

THE OVERCOMER
Revelation 3:5
The one who overcomes will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father… 1 John 5:4-5 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. And who is he who overcomes the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of the throne saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he shall dwell with them, and they shall be his peoples, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God: and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away. And he that sitteth on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he saith, Write: for these words are faithful and true. And he said unto me, They are come to pass. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit these things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.

Rm 6:23b
the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 10:27-29

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
John 6:37
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
John 10:28
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 5:24
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
2 Corinthians 1:22
And who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
Romans 11:29
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

etc.

Re: Calvinism and Eternal Security

Atwood, that is what Calvin said also.
You have Calvin on the brain, Cassian. Calvin Shmalvin.
Calvin also taught the Trinity. So then you reject the Trinity for old Shmalvin.

You just talked on; no Bible proof, just Eastern spoof, dead-denominationalism, Sola Cassiana, or Sola Easternola.

Try the Word of God Cassian, "It is written."

Surely goodness & mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the House of the LORD forever.

Trust the Lord Jesus as only & sufficient Savior, not just as a chance-giver;
and join the rest of the Church in the House of the Lord forever.

The Spirit & the Bride say, Come. Whoever is willing.

Re: Calvinism and Eternal Security

You have Calvin on the brain, Cassian. Calvin Shmalvin.
Calvin also taught the Trinity. So then you reject the Trinity for old Shmalvin.

You just talked on; no Bible proof, just Eastern spoof, dead-denominationalism, Sola Cassiana, or Sola Easternola.

Try the Word of God Cassian, "It is written."

Surely goodness & mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the House of the LORD forever.

Trust the Lord Jesus as only & sufficient Savior, not just as a chance-giver;
and join the rest of the Church in the House of the Lord forever.

The Spirit & the Bride say, Come. Whoever is willing.
You keep chiding for bible proof and you have yet to show anything for eternal security. Your logic says that if the words are not in scripture then it does not say so. Well, eternal security is not in scripture either.

I know it exists in predestination theology, but where does it exist in scripture as the Gospel of Christ means, not Calvinism.
These are all historicl facts, so I know you cannot present any support of ES.

As to the Trinity being taught by Calvin is only true that he mentions the word. He, along with Luther, accepted the filioque clause in the Nicene Creed which already changes the meaning of the Trinity. He also has no theological construct for the Trinity in His predestination system. His bases for the existence of the Church is NOT founded either on the Trinity, nor Christ. In other words nothing in Calvinism is Christological. Christ is a passive, benign character and everything is dependent on the sovereign decree of God through predestination. Same with the Incarnation. He uses the word, but has nothing in the theological system that has any salvific content for the Incarnation. You have denied it as well on several occasions which is quite logical because it does not exist in Calvinism.

Speaking of the Word, you aught to try it without the blinders you are wearing. You might see something. And believe in Christ as He has revealed Himself, not a philosophical construct.

Calvin, Shamalvin. So you think the RCC also denies the Trinity over filioque. Calvin believed that Jesus is God. So then you deny the deity of Christ because Calvin believed it. Shall we go on and show how you are an utter heretic for denying every doctrine that Calvin believed?
What a useless smoke screen & straw man.

Yes, Eternal security is in the Bible.

I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

He shall save His people from their sin.

2 thes 2:16-17 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Rm 6:23b
the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 10:

Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

1 John 5:10-13
Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

Romans 8:34
Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Ps 138

"thy right hand will save me.
YHWH will perfect that which concerns me:"

Ephesians 1:13
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
