Communism was never about lifting up the masses.

All it ever did was to place power in the hands of a few, impoverish everyone else and throw stones at capitalism.

To ever, ever compare communism with compassion for the poor, is truly and without a doubt not only blasphemy of the highest order, its said from the mouth of satan himself.

Educate yourself on the true ideologies of marxism....communism, and their weak sister, socialism before opening an ignorant mouth again and equate communism with ANYTHING christian, or good.

Absolutely disgusting, foolish and cries out the fact there is no Holy Spirit indwellment in any person even in the smallest way suggesting communism has any merit other than pure destruction and death.

I am truly amazed...flabbergasted...astonished that any christian could spout these horrible words.

I need to use mouthwash just imagining it.

Idiot.

I have to disagree. When Karl Marx and Frederik Engels sat down to write the Communist Manifesto, they did believe in raising up the masses. They left out a key ingredient, God. God is the one who seeks to aid the masses. But alas, too often, the secular world thinks that they can do it on their own. Unfortunately, in modern times, the secular world turns to socialists and communists to aid the poor, when they should be turning and helping the Churches which are really doing the work.

Absolutely. Definitely reminds me of Isaiah 5:20

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Communism as far as I am concerned is an ideology that is meant to make everyone dependent upon the same government entity. It entirely strips the people of their ability to make decisions and choices on their own, and destroys their individuality.

If you want to own your property and be a private citizen, then you don't want to be a part of communism or the fanatical ideas that go hand in hand with it. I'm sure everyone values their privacy too right? In communism, there is no such thing. I have no doubt that satan would love to see us writhe and squirm as the government tightens the noose and firms their grip around us, solidifying and demonstrating their absolute power, ultimately ushering in a communistic government and dictatorship. I'm sure that is what satan would want, and the first step to him getting what he wants is influencing the minds of others, leading them to believe that en evil and diabolical power hungry system of government can in anyway shape or form advance our cause.

How foolish to believe that such a thing can help anyone. Wake up, look around sometime. Surely observing the history of China and Russia would be enough to prove that communism hasn't helped anyone?

Sorry Nautilus but every iteration of government communism in the modern world has been a construct of Marxism and the metaphysical worldview of Marxism is state atheism positing the state as the ultimate authority over the citizen. That's why religious people were murdered, starved, imprisoned, robbed, severely persecuted, etc... en masse by the hundreds of millions wherever "communism" established itself as a state model in the 20th century. China's getting ready to do a big purge of Christians that attend house churches and churches that aren't part of their heretical "Three-Self Patriotic Movement" Chinese state church.

Democrats call it "progressive" when a nation deprives Christians of their human rights and religious liberty; replaces morality with immorality; and institutes state authoritarianism/totalitarianism. They think that's progress... lol. So twisted.

And holding a belief about a style of government negates someones Christianity? Atheism isn't even one of the main tents of communism.
Communism (from Latin communis – common, universal) is a socioeconomic system structured upon common ownership of themeans of production and characterized by the absence of classes, money,[SUP][1][/SUP][SUP][2][/SUP] and the state; as well as a social, political andeconomic ideology and movement that aims to establish this social order.[SUP][3

[SUP]Someone could eaisly hold communist ideals and still believe in Christ. In fact commujnism isn't far off from what the early church practiced:
Acts 2:42-45New International Version (NIV)

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

A Marxist would argue that was tried in the poor law parish system and performed poorly (which Dickens reflected in 'Oliver Twist', 'A Christmas Carol', etc... ) but at least the parish system didn't engage in sweeping democide, hard labor prison work camps designed to kill off most of the inmates, etc... that the Marxists did!

Oh, I don't disagree that Marxism leads to tyranny. My point was that Pope Francis' statement is not unfounded.

I wonder which way Francis would have swung?

Mark 14:4-9 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Communism doesn't work because it leaves God out of the equation and also because it goes completely against human nature. Capitalism is a system that naturally evolved and developed throughout the majority of human societies. It was a natural development. Communism on the other hand was an unworkable ideology that ignored everything we know about what makes humans tick. There has never been a successful Communist country due to this fact.

HAHAH well I think over here MUM is a flower HAHAHHAH well I could be wrong.......;)

The bigger the government, the more it hates christianity....

why would any, supposed, christian leader want the largest government system out there, communism.

It is.....VERY.....interesting to see the leftists here compliment communism and even equate the most corrupt evil government system there is to christianity.

Kinda proves my long standing view that liberalism is not only satanic, it is a cult.

Read 1 Samuel 8: 10-20....thats what man's government does to you and the bigger it is, the more corrupt it is. I know works based ideologies like catholicism embrace ideals like communism because it forces a moral code, in extreme ways, upon people but....and I want to be crystal clear here....

christianity is about freedom. The freedom in Christ to sin all you want to, but NOT WANTING TO, because of the Holy Spirit in us. Its not about rules first and following rules, its about loving God so much and in SUBMISSION TO CHRIST not a pope or big government, that there is the only true freedom a human can have.

Supporting the ideal of communism is ignorance of the human condition, elevating humanity to equality to God, which is blasphemy.

I'm still trying to figure out what his points were as the article was such a terribly written mish mash that I couldn't accurately decipher them. Perhaps you can.

What was the pope saying and what were his points?

This statement of yours is true; however, there have been associations of people in countries that practiced economic communal living and did so successfully for a time. The first century Christians were one such group though when they became large, the practice was abandoned.

Was the Early Church Communist? | Christian Research Institute

Small groups of people choosing to live communally in no way justifies the authoritarian/totalitarian nature of government enforced communism (Marxist or sans-Marxist). Neither the book of Acts nor historical experience commends government communism and the voluntary arrangement of early Christians in Jerusalem for a short while has little to do with that.

There has never been a successful Communist country...

His statement was that Communism as an ideal has stolen the banner of helping the poor in the eyes of the modern world. He also was saying that those who adhere to communism as a way to helping the poor may be closeted Christians. Meaning that all we need do is to reach out and evangelize the youngest communist generation, because it is from Christ where the true almsgivings will come from.

Again, evangelize the Communist youth with what? The Eucharist? Why doesn't he set the example by proclaiming the Gospel instead of taking political sides?

I'll look like the radical anarchist as usual, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it anyway. Communism is what's at the future of human development. It's only a matter of time before fiat money systems collapse beyond repair. People already ask questions about our financial model - mostly 'what's wrong with all this?' The majority of people just don't understand the specifics of why it doesn't inherently work. (Fiat money has no intrinsic value, banks lend moneys to governments at interest etc).

Even state capitalism works far better than liberal capitalism. Nazi Germany is one example of state capitalism working incredibly well as a financial model when it's coupled with socialist ethic. Too bad about what happened after that, because now a person can't mention the financial model without people calling them a Nazi. All the horrible things Hitler did aside, his financial model was near perfect for his own country's financial benefit. Creating currency at the value of work was a genius idea, and it works far better than our model - currency that's got no inherent value other than a bond of trust.

However, true communism doesn't have a currency at all. Socialism, yes, there's currency involved, but genuine communist society negates the need for purchase power. Obviously, a true communist society has never actually existed and the word is tarnished with all the political baggage that comes with it but at its roots it's a great idea and once people get around to giving before they take, then it might work.

But at the moment, people just aren't ready for it.
