I'm confused, you were just asking if God choose your spouse, but it doesn't automatically concluded that the marriage along the way will work out. If marriage deosn't work out after believing God choose a spouse for you, that's entirely a different matter.

Remember the story of Hosea that was commanded to marry Gomer? Also one example of God choosing a spouse.

You see, if along the way, the spouse decided to have divorce or separation that's his/her choice and you are right, no one, even God can force you to remain in marriage.
You have made a very important point here - because many Christians seem to think that when their marriage failed, it must have been that they did not marry God's Choice or they did not listen to God.

However, we must be careful in our application of scriptures, because this is another area where many Christians seem to have issues. We take specific occurrences in the bible and try to make a rule out of it. If you read the entire message surrounding the Hosea issue, you will see the purpose why God gave a prophet that specific instruction. if you do, you will realize it has "absolutely" nothing to do with and should never be used as rule on finding a spouse.

Finally, in every situation there are always exceptions. But you will run into great difficulties when you try to make the exception the rule.

No, ofcourse not. God respects the person's desired physical and/or emotional traits in the mate. But if the person is unsure about their type of mate or if the person experienced a lot of relationship problems, then the person can ask God to help the person find the right mate.

This gonna be the last time that I'm going to reply on this thread. I thought I made it clear. First, you keep on writing the statement below to some replies here.

"We take specific occurrences in the bible and try to make a rule out of it."

Please don't define my words as rules. I never used that term. It's your private interpretation of my words here. And I'm always saying instances like result of a marriage is never God's plan as the same with your term, that never God's rules.

What I'm trying to convey is your choice of a spouse, let's stick to that issue and not Christian issues. You come across judging one's conviction by saying... Christian issues. I won't site one scripture/book like HOSEA if i did not read the whole story. I'm not taking scriptures out of context.

What I'm thinking right now is you seemed like not believing God's words are not all applicable to our decision-making or even in our situation.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
2 Timothy 3:16

Instances in scriptures are not rules, but God's words for me are useful for the above-mentioned purpose.

As what I gathered from your reply, if that is your conviction or opinion, I respect that. Nothing more to write.

Thanks for your response. God bless.

To the original question, my short answer would be yes, and no. And it would take a long paragraph to try to explain why, and even then it might leave everyone super confused.

It can't be ignored that God does explicitly choose a spouse for some individuals in the Bible, but that seems to be more of an anomaly than the rule. I do, however, have a high view of God's sovereignty and believe that He foreordains marriage and who we end up marrying. That doesn't mean we're puppeted into choosing someone, though, either.

@ Jer

Now I´m reading this: "I'm single and still hoping and waiting for my spouse to come. "

I´m chewing new thoughts now. :)

Don´t tell it out loud: I started to understand you now.

Yes! A ninja turtle! :)
