Many people read the New Testament and say that Jesus did not teach us to keep the Sabbath. The reason why you don't find Jesus saying such things as, "Remember the seventh day to keep it holy" is because teaching which day is the Lord's day falls under "Orthodoxy". Orthodoxy is when you teach people right doctrines such as, "The seventh day is the Lord's day". Orthopraxy is when you teach people right behavior.

Jesus didn't come teach people which day the Sabbath was, they already knew that. What Jesus came to do is teach us how to behave on the Sabbath.

In everyone of Jesus' teachings, regarding the seventh day Sabbath, you never hear Him doing away with it or changing it to another day. What you do find Him doing is teaching us how to behave on the seventh day in light of love.

Listen very closely to the teachings of Jesus regarding the Sabbath. He never changes the day nor does He do away with it. What He does do is He teaches Orthopraxy, right behavior on the Sabbath. Listen.

Matthew 12:10-12 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him. Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

This next one is very interesting because Jesus uses the Old Covenant to teach a New Covenant principle. That means what Jesus was teaching has always been the heart of God. Listen.

Matthew 12:1-5 At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it,they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!” But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the show bread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?

Jesus didn't need to teach us which day the Sabbath was, everyone knew that. Jesus needed to teach us how to keep the Sabbath in light of the Sabbath being made for man and not man for the Sabbath.

Mark 2:27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Let us follow the teachings of Jesus and learn from Him the meaning and purpose of Sabbath observance.

Luke 13:11-17 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.” The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

Do you need Orthodoxy regarding the Sabbath or Othopraxy? If you need Orthodoxy then you need to be taught by the Law on stone first. If you already know the Law on stone then you need Orthopraxy, right behavior on the Sabbath, which is found in the teachings of Jesus.

You need to learn that by learning Jesus' teaching that we are to do well every single day. If it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath, is it lawful to not do well on some other day? Therefore we should do well every single day. For just as God rested from His work in creation on the seventh day and saw His work as complete, so also did Jesus when He died and said, "It is finished." Therefore we are a new creation, and we do not adhere to the standards of old. Jesus is our rest, as He said, for us to lay our burdens on Him. Those who keep the old Sabbath as a day instead of the new as Jesus burden themselves and also everyone around. You cannot live in the Spirit by fulfilling the works of the flesh. Jesus did that so we could be free to do His work every single day, no matter where we are or when we are.

You have been taught that we rest in Jesus so we no longer need to celebrate the seventh day Sabbath. That is a man made doctrine that needs to be tested with Scripture.

The seventh day is a memorial of creation that testifies of a Creator. The whole creation was to honor the seventh day even those who are not God's people, as well as, the animals. My working Ox does not need to rest in Christ but we are still to allow him to rest on the seventh day in light of what the day represents.

Jesus is Lord of (THE) Sabbath. The word (THE) testifies of a literal day called, the Sabbath. The rest we have in Jesus is a spiritual rest from trying to be made acceptable to God. The seventh day rest is a physical rest in light of what the day represents. These are two different kinds of rest with two different meanings and purposes.

Jesus confirmed the seventh day Sabbath would still be the Sabbath even forty years after His resurrection. The seventh day Sabbath is even mentioned in the new heaven and new earth. You can't just throw out the seventh day of creation in order to keep your man made doctrine. You need to study to understand the meaning and purpose for the seventh day of creation, not just cast it to the ground.

Keeping the sabbath was for the Jews not the gentiles. if you are lead to keep the sabbath the do so but keeping the sabbath is not for us gentiles. If God wanted me to keep the sabbath he would have lead me to do so. I dont know a whole lot of Jewish culture but on the sabbath thats when they Seek God and reflect on their blessing isnt it? i do this every day why should i set aside one day to do what im already doing?

I just came here to find out what orthopraxy was.

Shouldn't really have to teach people right behaviour if they've been saved...

Hebrews 8
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

There were 12 tribes in Israel and only one tribe was called the Jews. God created the Sabbath for mankind, according to Jesus. God used Israel to teach the world the ways of God. If you want to worship God you must do it the way God taught His people. That means the Sabbath was revealed through Israel for the whole world, even those who are not called God's people.

Isaiah 56:1-8 This is what the Lord says: "Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you and to display my righteousness among you. Blessed are all those who are careful to do this. Blessed are those who honor my Sabbath day of rest and keep themselves from doing wrong. "Don't let the Gentile who commit themselves to the Lord say, "The Lord will never let me be part of his people." And don't let the eunuchs say, "I'm a dried-up tree with no children and no future." For this is what the Lord says: I will bless those eunuchs who keep my Sabbath day holy and who choose to do what pleases me and commit their lives to me. I will give them within the walls of my house a memorial and a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. For the name I give them is an everlasting one. It will never disappear! "I will also bless the Gentile who commit themselves to the Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my covenant. I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. For the Sovereign Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel."

The Sabbath was also suppose to be a blessing for the animals as well.

Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. Do all of your work in six days. But the seventh day is a Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God. Do not do any work on that day. The same command applies to your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and your animals. It also applies to any foreigners who live in your cities. In six days I made the heavens and the earth. I made the oceans and everything in them. But I rested on the seventh day. So I blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

The main purpose of the Sabbath is that it testifies of creation and its Creator. It also sets us apart as a people of God. We should rest in the finished work of Christ everyday and we should also worship God everyday. Honoring the seventh day Sabbath in light of what it represents is, in itself, and act of worship. We don't honor the seventh day Sabbath to be saved, we honor the Sabbath because we are saved. Honoring God and His ways is the fruit of salvation.

The teachings of Jesus set the standard for right behavior and the Spirit leads us in the ways of Jesus.

1 John 2:6 The one who says he belongs to Christ should walk as Jesus walked.

Just because you are saved does not mean you will automatically have right behavior. Sometimes our behavior needs time to catch up to our salvation.

There is only one rest for the people of God and we enter that rest through Christ who is the one who Created all things and who rested on the seventh day. He is the Lord of that day that he rested and we are in Him and have His rest. This is the rest we enter into as the people of God, not the seventh day. The seventh day was a shadow of Christ coming to give us rest from all our labors when we come to Him. He has made us new creatures in Christ, old things have passed away and everything has become new. We are hid with Christ in God. The OT people were not made new creatures and were not his with Christ in God. The Israelites in the wilderness were baptized under Moses and we as NT believers are baptized unto Christ. The law came by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Christ is the end of the law to everyone that believes and we have believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. he has made us accepted in the beloved and not the law of Moses. He has given us His righteousness through faith and not through the deeds or works of the law. We are new creatures created in righteousness and true holiness that comes through His death, burial and resurrection and not through obedience to the law. We live as just people who have been justified by faith and not by the works of the law. We are to occupied with Christ through the Spirit and not occupied with the law through the flesh. We grow in grace and knowledge of Him and not the law.

Gal 5
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Why do you try in vain to teach lies...New Covenant principle? Jesus was teaching an OC principle that the teachers of the Law didn't have right. On top of that, they didn't even know there was a NC coming in the near future.

Here again you are not underlining all the scripture in it's truth but picking what you want it to say.
...And who hold fast to my covenant...He is talking about the Old Covenant
I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices? Do you still do this? Hope not...

We worship God in Spirit, we don't go to Jerusalem to worship.

You are living in the OC, Christians live in the NC.

His priciple is so simple to understand, we are to do what is good on the sabbath. Some Christians work all day truck driving, loading, unloading..on the Sabbath. Bringing food, clothing, shelter, medicine etc...ALL DAY LONG WORK WORK WORK. Are they sinning? You should learn what the word GOOD means, and if a Christian is not doing a good work on the Sabbath, then he must be resting. So either way, there is no forgotten principle nor any sin.
