IMHO:

There is way too much sinful music being played in Churches.
Evil music, harmful music.
Music that destroys ears, ears which are part of God's Temples, the Bodies of Christians.

They are cranking up the amplifiers to cause deafness.
How can they be such Nitwits.

Why do they think it has to be ear-blasting loud?

Next time I go to this local church I have been visiting, I am going to take ear plugs with me.

OH, how dare they! Loudness cannot be tolerated!! How wicked you are to not play boring old hymns from the 1800's. Anything new and contemporary is clearly from the devil himself!! Sure, boring ol' grandpa hymns may have been contemporary in his day, but at least in his day they didn't actually do such vile things as to lift their hands, dance and sing with such fervent praise!! To stand and/or sit eerily stiff-I, I mean still, and quietly sing along ever presently making a conscious effort not to fall out asleep and drool on the oh so holy church pew. That's the TRUE way to worship!!!! Any other praise is evil, vile, and from the devil himself!! And above all, we must make it our utmost importance to point out these horrendous heresies of other Christians! We can just preach the gospel and save people from eternal damnation some other day, there are Christians out there not praising properly! How dare they!! We must band together my boring brethren, to stamp out those happy Christian heathens from their joyful praise!

The gross, rude, western paganism that fraudulent calls itself christianity, is not capable to perceive God as He revealed Himself to Elijah: as a "thin breeze", as a "gentle whisper", or as He revealed Himself in Jesus Christ: as kind and humble. No, the gross pagans need earthquakes, special charisms, fire that falls from the sky, hollywoodian sensationalism, holy laughter, hands up in the air, screams, entertainment, amputated foot that grows back here(!) and now(!), sermons full of pathos, MUSIC that awakes your body and hits your reptilian/aggressive brain, emotional break-downs provoked (supposedly) by the Holy Spirit (who are they kidding, right? We all know the Holy Spirit is like a delicate little bird that flies away from brutal movements and gestures).

But at least they don't get bored, they sure have a lot of fun. And also, this commercialization of God proves to be more lucrative than the 'old hymns' sang by old, tired people. Teenagers respond better to rock and roll than to an old psalm, they respond better to an up-dated gospel, than to the real gospel.

Psalm 150
1Praise the Lord.[SUP]a[/SUP]

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding * cymbals.

6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

* (of a sound) loud enough to reverberate.

The volume of the music doesn't make it sinful, only the lyrics can do that.
Not that I'm a fan of loud music in church myself.

Maybe is because God was perceived as beyond the world. Also, the jews used to yell the prayers ("Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts").

(Poor attempt to justify the kitsch present in some neoprotestant churches)

dude..... thats a pretty intense view you must feel very strongly about it. Now here is my view- I listen to Christian rock and I cant tell you how many times I was inspired for God from it. There was a fire in my bones I was dancing and praising God and i knew that with God he and i could truly do anything. The holy spirit can be a gentle breeze but he is also a blazing Fire that can make you strong

I suppose there's always the chance that worship can merge with entertainment, and that's always something we must be careful about. You don't want your worship to turn into a rock concert and people getting worship mixed up with being moved by the music itself. Music can be very manipulative. After all, people at rock concerts wave their hands around too. At my church we use the old time hymnals and organ and that's what we like. However I don't really think it's right to bash other Christians for their worship styles, as long as they aren't being unbiblical. Calling your fellow Christians "sinful" and "pagan" over music preference isn't right.

Don't call me 'dude'.

It is the church that must mold the world and not the other way around.

The religious need of the jews who worshiped Baal in the desert was founded on a sincere background. So, be careful. Only because someone says "Lord, lord, it doesn't mean that they are worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ.

Genres aside, the biggest problem with over-amplified music is that one can't sing to it. I'm a trained opera singer, and I can't compete with amplified sound. When I can't hear myself sing, the music's too loud, and I stop singing because I know I will over-sing. And if I can't sing, I'm not worshipping. Then it becomes a concert. Nothing wrong with concerts, but they don't belong in a worship service.

As a worship leader, I don't believe the music is the problem. It is the intention behind the music that is the problem.
The people singing into the music could be a problem.
Any Music could be used to worship , praise , encourage each other, etc..
:)

So why go to a church where the music is too loud or not your preference??

Find a church that has a music that you like. I sing and play as part of our worship service. I have been a music director and worship leader. I would never allow the music to be louder than the congregation can sing, or like someone said, it becomes a concert, not a praise and worship time. But that is me!

Shake me the dust off your feet. There are churches everywhere, I'm sure you can find something more to your taste.

Same with old gospel music and hymns. The beat doesn't matter, it's the Spirit.
