I think the term shallow is being thrown around too loosely here. Having preferences in physical appearance does not make one shallow. Only wanting someone because of their physical appearance is shallow. But if i meet two women who have great personalities but one fits into my ideas of physically attractive and the other doesn't, i'm going with the one that is physically attractive. Does that make me shallow? Nope.

That said i've never dated anyone taller than i am. I've dated women equal to my height and i've dated women who were a fair bit shorter than me. I find the closer to my height a woman was the easier it was, but not so much that it would play a huge factor in my choice.
If she were taller, i don't know. I suppose it would depend on how much taller. It might feel awkward if she were a little taller, but getting too tall i think would be more than i care to deal with. That said i'm about 5'9" or so. Though apparently it does change from time to time 0.o

I did mention that in the OP -It could be average in some European countries.. matter of perspective.

And btw, 5'7 is not the average in the USA.

(Though if you want me to admit I am a midget. I will :D. But it's my dream of being rejected by most Indian men so I can ride a harley davidson in the mountains with my dog)

Nope, it would be anywhere between 5'3-5'6.Okay, maybe it goes to 5'8 for average. I'm just slightly over 5'9, not 5'10. And I'm one of the tallest women I know. In fact, I think I've only met two or three women who are taller then me. I would say that it does seem like the majority of men in the US prefer women who are not quite 5'9. But eh, who cares what they think.

based upon the latest that i've read, the average US woman is 5'4", wears a size 14, has a waist size of 35" and weighs about 150 lbs.

the average US man is 5'9" and has a 39" waist and weighs about 195 lbs.

well, rachel, maybe i'll come with you. or at least, bike shopping.

the mountains on a bike sounds really good to me! : D

As soon as I saw this post, I automatically thought of Jamie Cullum & Sophie Dahl. N'awww.
Each to their lovely own, but me personally, I like the taller ones.

I think I love this thread.

Consider my confidence in CC restored.

I'm 6' 2" ish.

I think I would be okay dating someone taller than me. I like the feeling of standing next to someone and being able to look them in the eye.

I do tend to bias towards taking people who are taller more seriously.

Let's be honest...it's almost impossible to find a guy shorter than I am since I'm just 5 ft.

I am only 5ft 4 inches. It was easy to find someone taller than me,as most people are taller than me. :)

I would have married someone shorter. Honestly it's nice to have at least one of us reach the high stuff.

I guess this means I am no where near being an 'average woman' I am 5 ft, I wear size 00 (if you meant waist size if you meant shoe size then I am a size 4) My waist is 22 inches.. and I weigh anywhere from 75-80lbs.

Ok the average height for Indian males is 164.7 cm (5 ft 5 in) and that of an Indian female is 151.9 cm (5 ft 0 in).

So generally Indians aren't very tall people, but that's changing. I did see reports where Indian kids are almost 2 inches taller on an average.

I could be the product of a taller generation. But then again my dad is 6 feet and my mother is 5'3... so.

Oh and gypsygirl and violakat, this is interesting.

Even though the average Indian woman is much shorter, the industry standard for fashion and beauty models is the same in India as it is internationally.

I know this, because my friend who was 5'6 and very interested in modelling had attended an audition. She was turned down but the modelling scout offered me one even though I wasn't participating and even though I wasn't exactly "model material".

While I would find it very hard to get married, I've been offered modelling opportunities in my life.
This all, I had to turn down as my parents were not comfortable with this.

So just saying, what can be rejected by some could be celebrated by others :)

Weight is a filter to a degree. Build is one too. I don't like body builders, or arms that look like they would crush me if I got hugged. Thin and slim is in. So holla (holler? I dunno.. I'm white) to all you skinny guys out there. Tides have turned in your favour. I'm like Goldie locks- not too hot not too cold- just right. But yeah stronger than me, cus I don't want to be the Pop-Eye of the household.

would it be shallow of me to say I want strong men so I can have all my pickle jars opened?

I am a little over 5'7". Sometimes I appreciate my height. Then sometimes I wish I was shorter and smaller and be all "cute and little." Instead I'm all...not.

One time, one of my friends described me as dainty. I was really taken aback. She meant more in my fashion style and my gentleness, which I do agree with, but I initially disagreed because I'm tall, big, klutzy, and I'm working on making my walk be less of a CLOMP CLOMPing around and to have more grace and poise.

I suppose beauty types are interesting, especially with the national cultural factor involved. I myself wouldn't care much if a girl were slightly taller than me (mind you I am 6 foot), but I wouldn't want a girl that towers over me that be like 7 foot. Though I have to say I always imagined the woman be slightly shorter than me. I guess on the opposite end of that spectrum for myself I wouldn't want a girl that is 5 foot though either lol. I always figured a gal maybe just a little bit shorter than myself, somewhere around 5'8-6' range.

Lol being single has had its benefits in that I get to observe how others perceive the notion of beauty somewhat objectively just by seeing what those not single prefer. I have noticed for height at least over here, it's that saying, beauty in the eye of the beholder really. Some men like them shorties, some men like very tall women, some just want something close to equal.

I've been searching for a gf tall enough to repair my roof while standing firmly on the ground (so there's no risk of her falling.)

I'd do the repair myself, but a roofing job is just the sort of thing that makes a super-tall girl interested in a guy.
