[TD="class: alt1, bgcolor: #F6F6F6"]I believe the Scriptures teach that Samson did not commit suicide. Unless of course you believe Samson's strength was his own. Was Samson's strength a gift from God? Did God have to grant his prayer? Could not have God destroyed the temple and protect Samson against Samson's wishes? you betcha. So God granting Samson the strength to destroy the temple was God's choice and power. Not Samson's choice. Samson could not destroy the temple on his own power. It was only by the power of God that Samson could do so. Samson still did not really know how God was going to react if he destroyed the temple. Samson did not have a vision or guarantee that he could kill himself. God does not condone people to commit sin. God took Samson's life by the power of God working in Samson. In order for Samson to commit suicide of his own power, he would have to have absolutely zero help from God in his desire to die. In other words, Samson could have found another way to kill himself and the Philistines. But he trusted and relied upon God instead to see if God was going to answer his prayer or not. And God. NOT Samson was the one who ultimately took Samson's life because God gave him the strength to destroy the Temple and also allow him to be die within it.

Samson wasn't perfect; no person is perfect. And the 'suicide' he committed wasn't necessarily "suicide" because it wasn't his life that he wanted to take. He was avenging the evil that the Philistines had done to him. You could interpret it as an 'honorable' death.

God destroying the temple wasn't God's choice, it was Samson's prayer to do so. *HOw do you know how God was going to react, the bible says, no man knows the mind of God. *Samson did have a vision of what was going to happen, he had a plan, a prayer, and knew exactly what was going to happen if the Lord increased his*strength*back. Suicide is a pit of darkness where the light of God does not enter. If God saw in Samson's heart that he felt defeated, and wanted to die, out of defeat, and not victory, he would of not answered his prayer, as God does not partake of death, nor*imparts*it into people's minds. It is from Satan, Life is from God. He prayed to avenge them, not that he would lay there under the stones in defeat. Therefore he did conquer the Philistines once again, and was a victor, not a*victim*of what you think he had in his thoughts, of self destruction. What you said at the start you*believe*he did not , is correct he did not. If someone is thinking Suicide God is not going to put a weapon in their hands, regardless this was in the Old Testament, the Spirit of the LOrd always was present , and it was there that the Old Testament, and the New were inspired by the Holy Spirit. God is not an accomplice, and we don not know what he would of done, or not done, it says, Samson prayed, and asked. HIs anointing was there, as his hair was growing. The same today, if we sin, God is faithful to restore us.*

*I say your wrong. You say you betcha, well that's not true. God allowed Samson's eyes to be gouged out, and him be the ox mowing the field, for a reason. He went with strange women that was forbidden him, and God wasn't going to destroy the people. Samson prayed and asked God for*strength, the only reason the Lord *allowed the pillars to go down, was because in those years, he was*remorseful, and*sorrowful, and repented before the Lord God. It was then his prayer was granted, not any other reason. If he did not pray, he would of died like the rest of them. The lord wouldn't take innocent people because of his sin, just as Jonah didn't want to go to Ninevah, the Lord told him, he loved them just as well. It was Samson's choice he said, he asked God to avenge them, and his hair was getting longer, so the anointing was there, but not in full*strength, so he prayed. Suicide has no place in this story. Just as Jesus laid down his life for us, freely, some could think that was a self destructive act. In those days, Samson slew a whole army with a donkeys jaw, it was war, and yes he was given the gift of strength, it was his anointing. He was betrayed because he was in the comfort of his flesh, with his head on his mistress lap, spiritually he lost his*strength*then, the flesh was winning, and it did.*HOw do you know how God was going to react, the bible says, no man knows the mind of God. *Samson did have a vision of what was going to happen, he had a plan, a prayer, and knew exactly what was going to happen if the Lord increased his*strength*back. Samson's "suicide" looks something more like a terrorist act. It was a suicide killing.

Samson was a Judge, and he was supposed to judge the wicked, but instead he has became like one of them; but when they removed his eyes, it made him see his faults. And so Samson had plead to God to give him his strength back and but this time he going to make sure that God's will be done. And since he was a Judge, he had judged himself as well, because he was no better than the philistines.

Where in scripture does it say Samson committed suicide anyway? It don't.
Greater love hath no man than to give his life for another.
Did Samson give his life for another? yes, he gave his life for God.

Sampson gave his life to kill thousands of Philistines that tormented Israel. In the same form that Jesus gave His life to kill the enemy.

Yeah, no doubt and the one where Abraham was deceptive about his wife because of the fear of being killed over her.....

Or, Peter, denying the Lord three times.....Or Moses rising up and killing the Egyptian...........

maybe next we will be enlightened to know that God never actually asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? because that would be unthinkable...
Islam says Jesus was only a man, because it is unthinkable to them that God could have a son. see where putting our own thinking above the Lord's gets us!

some of us would give God a very bad report card. it's probably a good thing for Him that He's not beholden to us.

That's good
And the understanding to relate the word suicide to hanged himself is there, however, the understanding of Samson and his last final act is not in understanding to suicide. Like mixing apples and oranges yes?

Samson went down fighting like the true warrior that he is. It is like a soldier in the field of battle knowing that he is going to die. He puts his weapon on rock n roll and haves at 'em. It is a death with honor and distinction and worthy of a medal of valor. Posthumously. A coward dies many times but a man that is brave need only fear death once.

Sampson knew that He was dead, He had violated his vow and in fact prayed to God for the act that He did.

I think context dictates what took place....Samson burned his life and wasted it by riotous living.....He could have been the best Judge in Israel...at the end of his ruined life he chose to KILL himself and in so doing RID ISRAEL of a plethora of Philistine Lords. He had to ask God for strength to do that which he could have done as the top Judge of Israel had he been faithful unto God!

No No No, he didn't choose to kill himself, because he didn't know the outcome of his actions, instead, he chose to ask the Lord for strength to try to take down a whole lot of them also not knowing the out come. He died in the process.

"Ye" says you need to read and understand your bible. Not even a good way to approach the subject. If someone said he committed suicide, it would be easy enough to answer, but to put that out there in the manner you did seems like you want to exhibit your knowledge on the topic. If that is correct, your answer to your own posit was weak

Samson already had a death sentence on him. God allowed Samson to choose the manner of execution. Nothing more, nothing less.

Judges 16:23 "Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand."

Samson was that sacrifice. His death was to be offered to Dagon for the revenge of the Philistines he had slain.

Judges 16:28-30..His cause was vengeance for them putting out his eyes and he knew he would die and in his DEATH killed more Philistines than in life.....

He killed himself to bring vengeance upon the Philistines just as many a worldly men have undoubtedly done through the ages......
