Can you lose the Holy Spirit?

The promise of the seal of the Holy Spirit


Joel 2:28 "It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. 29"Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.…


Eph 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of PROMISE, 14who is GIVEN as a pledge...


1Cor 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.


So the moment you believed "Jesus is Lord", you were {sealed in Him with the OT promise of the HS} given by the Father to be proclaimed by His Prophet Joel.

Ya but only partially correct as it wasn't only the promise of the outpouring of the spirit but also at the same time came the sealing of those who believed. So you can believe the whole Word of God, or nit pick.
Most of you believe that the word trinity is spoken of in meaning throughout the bible although the word trinity isn't found, yet you don't understand the meaning of the promise of the outpouring and the sealing of the Spirit. How strange

' Please read my link. Many Christians probably don't have the HS because they were never saved or don't put their faith in Jesus. I think it is frightening sad that too many Christians believe they are saved when they are not.

Sorry biscuit, a misunderstanding on my part, as I understood you to agree with Crossnote in that I understood him to disagree with me which wasn't a disagreement and wasn't an answer to my answer to his "chapter and verse please" statement, but rather an answer to the OP which you were agreeing to.
 
The following information illustrates the process by which a believer loses the Holy Spirit;

1.)Now the devil also believes, but he does evil, so does a backslidder from God.A believer who lives in continual sinning has a backslidden state. He has given place to the devil.Eph.4:27 Here God chastises a believer through tribulations and anguish, so he would repent.

2.)A believer who rebels against God and will not repent may be demon oppressed and vexed(tormented).A strongman (a devil) Matthew 12:29 binds him with a stronghold 2 Corin.10:4.God gives him over to a reprobate mind. Romans 1:28

3.)He may be fiiled with unclean spirits.Matt.12:43-45, Luke 11:24
 
This state of being "empty" of the Holy Spirit brings and filled with demons, eventually leads to God's punishment through demon possession. Hebrews 10:26-31.

I believe that the Holy Spirit can be taken away.Psalms "Cast me not away from thy presence and take not thy Spirit from me."

This is why NT believers who have trusted in the finished work of Christ have a better covenant with better promises and a better priesthood. Old things have passed away and ALL things have become new. Don't tell JaumeJ this but the NT believer is better equipped to serve and worship God because God dwells within through the Spirit. The law has been exceeded by grace and truth through the Spirit and we are changed into His image from glory to glory as we steadfastly look into the face of Jesus Christ where there is no vail.
 
It is a shame with all of the promises and assurance we have from God through the scriptures that there is some much waivering and doubt about what we have been given by grace through the finished work of Christ.

The HS may be grieved by sloppy believers. Lost it cannot be however since believers are sealed with it.

Eph.4

[30] And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

i think that the Holy Spirit can leave a person, since the Holy spirit can't stand being in filthyness. An example in my life is, one time after being sober for years, i chose to drink, thinking it would ease some pain(emotional). instead of getting in deep prayer and fighting it tooth and nail, i gave in to the drink. Jesus left us the comforter, for times like that, but i chose a different spirit than the Holy Spirit. So i think when i took that first drink the Holy Spirit left, not because of one drink, but because he knew after one i would have another, and another, until i either passed out or ran out of booze. when i woke up the next day i felt dead, like a part of me was gone. It took me 3 days to feel alive again, and i don't ever want to go through that again.an old saying is, you don't know what you have till its gone, the emptiness i felt was horrible. Praise God for His forgiveness.

thank you so much for sharing such an intimate witness, it's one that many of us
can identify with, one way or another.

the good-news of your story is, that in your 'conviction', your Love for Jesus
gave you the strength to actually 'turn-away' from your abhoring bondage to alcohol.

how blessed we are when we realize that our Father knows whether we are or will be
true to Him in our lives, when all adversities beset us.
otherwise, what would be the point in claiming who we think we are or that we love Him?
 
In my opinion, The Holy Spirit is grieved when we sin knowingly or unknowingly, quenched if we keep sinning long time , backslide, and never repent , until there is very small or no conviction anymore about sin in your life, and you cannot heard His voice, (I think there is possibility that you can restore your communion with God,true genuine repentance and prayer) the Holy Spirit will be still with you, and I believe ultimately the worst state is to blaspheme, which in this case, I believe He can leave and there is not turn back , no forgiveness.

I been praying to God since I believe I am on the quenched stage, and I am really looking to turn back to God, I am not able to feel or hear clearly God voice, so I know is going to take faith , and self examination to allow God , to restore me, through the Holy Spirit

and

when did it depend on me, to save my self. was the condition to believe. and god saves me/you etc.

28 "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation" ---30 because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." mark 3.

I try to let the verses tell us.

to me it says a person once had a demon in him,

sweep house, mabe recieve spirit , promise of Jesus.

but must have lost his holy spirit somehow,

and returned back worse to once was before.

a story i thought pertained to the oreginal op..


im just posting to help, people can have there own views
 
I do not believe one can lose the HOLY SPIRIT what I do believe is that one can choose to walk away from GOD, therefore being left with a Reprobate mind. Those above gave some very good scriptures to verify the validity of this. So it is not about losing but making a choice to walk away from GOD. JESUS said HE would never leave us nor forsake us. When one pleaded with GOD not to take HIS SPIRIT away was due to how far they have gone astray knowingly and if one does not Repent then they are left with the Judgement.
