Whoopedoo, half my family lives in Missouri and they give me the local reports as well as the national. St Louis was called in because they were needed to quell the rioting, looting, and assaults.

If there had been NO rioting and looting, there would have been NO reason to call them in. The National Guard was only called in on a limited bases to protect the command center in the Westfall shopping center.

You're wrong.

Well I don't know where you get your reports from, but that was not the initial reason for the St. Louis county officers.
It was reported on all national and local news around here that they came in because of the accussations of misuse of force by the Ferguson police.

I guess you missed the reports showing them shooting tear gas at news crews that were standing off to the side away from the protests, doing nothing but reporting.

The Ferguson police yelled at them mistaking them as protestors, but they then identified themselves three times to the police and yet the police still fired tear gas at them.

Another one was suspended after last night for pointing a gun at a peaceful protestor, and saying he will kill him.

Re: Peaceful Protesters? Grand Juries? Legal Reform Needed

Eleven total have been arrested to date and almost all of them were briefly held and not charged for anything whatsoever. The situation, right or wrong with respect to the press, is that Ferguson MO authorities have zoned off a specific are for the press and some members of the press are refusing to use it and joining the protestors.

When asked about the journalists, Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson said:

"In the midst of chaos, when officers are running around, we're not sure who's a journalist and who's not. And yes, if I see somebody with a $50,000 camera on their shoulder, I'm pretty sure. But some journalists are walking around and all you have is a cellphone because you're from a small media outlet. Some of you may just have a camera around your neck."

"So yes, we are -- we may take some of you into custody," Johnson said. "But when we do take you to custody, when we've found out you're a journalist, we have taken the proper action."

Now personally, I'm no fan of "free speech zones" and "press zones" AT ALL so fully support free speech and the ability of the press to go where they like as long as it's not an area restricted for national security reasons (which this is NOT).

Logically, it makes sense that journalists mixed in with the protestors could be taken into custody with protestors if those protestors are committing criminal acts and then vetted and released once their press credentials are verified.

But honestly, even the zone set aside for them was infiltrated by protestors that threw urine and bottles at the officers chanting death threats against them so...

I only see what the news shows, but it appears to be a large number of peaceful protestors.

Yes, well given that this is Missouri we're talking about: show me. Prove it. I want to see those reports.

You have a problem with that? News crews or scab pickers? No healing possible as long as the cameras are rolling.

Here is the report made by our governor;

(Reuters) - Missouri's governor moved on Thursday to calm days of racially charged protests over the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager, naming an African-American captain of the Highway Patrol to oversee security in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.Captain Ron Johnson, who grew up in Ferguson, told reporters he would take a new approach after complaints that police have used heavy-handed tactics, arresting dozens of protesters and using teargas and pepper pellets to break up crowds.
Ferguson, a mostly black town of 21,000 with a predominantly white police force that has been accused of racial profiling in the past, was bracing for a fifth straight night of protests on Thursday after a police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown last weekend.

Also, I've been watching nightly the live feed from Ferguson by Vice News. The police have been excessive in their force and use of tear gas and rubber bullets.

Considering they were set up further away from anything, I'd say there is a problem with that.

From another angle..

A little "tear gas" can help 'news crews' get the feel of the action. They love it when this happens. That way they become 'the news' rather than the reporters of 'the news'. Last night there were more 'news crews' on the scene than protestors. I hope the police load up on tear gas tonight and take aim at the 'news crews'. I love seeing news reporters with red eyes and gasping for air while they make news rather than report it. Besides with not as many protesters showing up the police have the chance to practice with tear gas. Anyone in a "news crew" will make for a perfect target.

No, as you can tell in that video, the cops shot the teargas at the media for the purpose of stopping them from documenting what the cops were doing in that part of Ferguson.
As you can hear. "No, we don't want you here."

When cops will do that in Ferguson, as they bring out their military style tactics in a community that has the Constitutional right to demonstrate and protest corrupt police tactics, what won't they do to residents of Ferguson? When they attack a news crew and are oblivious to the fact that other news crews are documenting their assault on the competition.

Healing? What healing? How does a community heal with teargas filling their lungs?

Who's there first? The police with their militarized tactics occupying and intimidating residents who are protesting police actions? Or the news crew who have the right under freedom of the press to document the events?

The news crews shouldn't be the news. They should report the news.

This was not done as a practice, or because the news crew allowed it.

They interviewed the news crew members, and they said they were being yelled at by the Ferguson police thinking they were protesters. Then the crew said they identified themselves three times to the police, and they still fired on them.

They have done this to peaceful protesters to that were doing nothing but standing their voicing their opinion, not causing violence.

The violent ones I do believe the tear gas, and rubber bullets are necessary for, but to ones that are not causing an issue and news crews that are not causing an issue and are out of the way it is not right.

Wake up & smell da coffee, people!!!

TWO black men each rob a store for next to nothin, Then stands out in the streets waiting for trouble. The 2nd guy goes right out in front of the store, pacing & anxious, waiting for the cops to show up!! When they do, he pulls out a knife & charges them? REALLY? Since when does ANY NORMAL CRIMINAL DO THAT?

THIS ISN'T AS SIMPLE AS IT LOOKS! In my opinion, these men didn't seem to have any normal sense about themselves. This isn't normal behavior, thug or otherwise.

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE MILITARY HAS BEEN TRAINING 30 DAYS BEFORE THIS ON HOW TO FIGHT AGAINST BLACK AMERICANS BEFORE AN ACTUAL RIOT STARTS? This seems to be scripted, planned in advance. Does anyone besides me see this?

Here's the scenario:
1. troops are trained in July
2. Unusual behavior by these 2 black men..... one keeps charging after being shot in the arm 4 TIMES! He doesn't go into shock, neither does his instincts take over, causing him to run for his life. The other WAITS for the cops for no good reason & charges 2 cops with pistols drawn...... NOOOOO.....that's not normal. These guys had to be programmed.
3. Neither guy has mind altering drugs in his system.
4. The media plays this like a 3 ring circus to stir people up....& it works.

What's next..... Riots in the streets, with the military present to practice? Is FEMA getting ready declare a national emergency? Or they practicing for martial law?

Steven, cmon brother. I read some of the stuff on that link you posted. I have a very open mind on conspiracy theories, but the reports I read on that site are too far out there even for me.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A confident President Barack Obama kicked off his second term on Monday with an impassioned call for a more inclusive America that rejects partisan rancor and embraces immigration reform, gay rights and the fight against climate change.

Did this Reuters news story send chills running up your leg like the one you quoted in your post?

Your views appear to lean a little to the left side. If so then I must forgive you. Science has proven that people that predispose certain political views have a gene called DRD4. You can't help how you feel about world events because of this hideous gene. There is no cure.

A robbery is not a nothing. A robbery is more than a theft. The way the brute in the film treated that little shop keeper is not next to nothin. It is something abominable.

Since when does ANY NORMAL CRIMINAL DO THAT?
Do normal & criminal go together?

I don't know that your claim is true, but if is, my guess would be that they were taught to handle them w/ kid gloves, all yumsy wumsy sugar plumsy. They wouldn't want to violate any rioters rights.

3. Neither guy has mind altering drugs in his system.
What leads you to that conclusion?

I don't know where you are trying to go with this.

I don't support a lot of what Obama does.
Does the immigration system need to be changed on how it handles things....yes it does.

The report I gave was taken from interviewing Missouri governor Nixon on why he sent St. Louis county officers to take over.

Guys (and gals) I understand this is a hot topic right now and emotions can tend to run high but the discussion needs to remain civil. It is entirely possible to vehemently disagree with someone's point of view without resorting to attacks on their character.

Grace has been extended up until this point since I hadn't reviewed the thread in two days and numerous people have overstepped the bounds in that time frame. From this point forward that will not be the case

You have NOT proven your assertion Kenneth. Where are the official reports proving that the St Louis police department was called in by government officials because the Ferguson police department is so corrupt they can't police Ferguson, MO.

Your have FAILED to prove your assertion making it a FALSE assertion. My assertion is the correct one.
