I just got a new Bible and am considering buying a case for it. Though I'm not sure. I plan on using this Bible daily and taking it with me while I commute to read, so that will probably mean a higher possibly of it getting worn out sooner (and it's thick).

So do any of you have cases for your Bibles? Right now only one of my Bibles has a cover and I'm not sure because I haven't removed the cover yet, but the paperback cover seems to be fragile and looks like it old fall out because it has been in a cover. Could it just be that I have loose papers tucked in the first couple pages? I don't want the same thing to happen to th is Bible, so I am worried.

Why do you need a cover? use that bible and wear it out. I'm sure the Lord will help you find a way to buy another one.
Don't turn the paper into a god, it's not meant to last forever, only the meaning of the words that are in it.

if i were in the market, i'd try to find one that zipped closed to keep out dirt etc. and had a pocket or two inside for maybe a notepad and a pen.

you'll get what you pay for too, don't expect to be able to get something durable for cheap.

Your point is so off tangent,he is not turning paper into God, he is trying to preserve the word of God as so to be a good steward of what he has. I mean yes God will provide for us, but He doesn't provide for us so we can be wasteful or bad stewards of our possessions.

keeping papers inside the book does wear out the binding.

i've had paperback, low quality leather, high quality and faux leather bound bibles.

the low quality, paperback bindings eventually fell apart. the last one i bought, earlier this year, is really high quality, well bound leather. i expect it to last for decades to come. i replaced a low-quality leather bound one that lasted about 15 years before the major prophets started falling out.
it retailed for close to $90 but i found a site that has discounted items because of minor cosmetic issues, and got it for $40. turns out the "cosmetic flaw" was that the cardboard package it was boxed in had been dented!

anyway yeah, you get what you pay for, and keeping lots of things stuffed in the pages stresses the binding. so i'd look for a cover that has a pocket you can keep papers in, and keep bookmarks to a minimum.

Had a cover for my Bible once. Had a zipper, pockets and a carry handle. To tell the truth I found it annoying. I gave it to one of the kids. It now sits unused.

It all comes down to preference. Like someone said earlier. Use your Bible wear it out get another. I keep my worn out Bibles on my shelf for reference because they are highlighted underlined and have notes all through them. And the worn out Bibles are great keepsakes for the kids when they get older.

Not every issue should be a debate. There is nothing inherently evil about Bible covers.

I don't think andypg meant this to be a debate he was asking a question to get other people opinion.

exactly, its up to the individual, i.e. i do not write in my bibles or even underline, I have tonnes of notebooks which I fill with notes and scriptures etc

I bought a leather cover with pockets and a zipper for my ESV Study Bible. The case looks brand new and so does the outside of the Bible. The inside and binding have taken a good beating, I admit! I plan to try an HCSB Study Bible in it soon for a change of pace!

You will notice that he didn't ask if it was wrong or right to have one. That wasn't the point of his question. He was asking for help for those who do have cases for their Bibles so as to resolve his issue with properly protecting his Bible. Not every topic should be a debate.

Keep the box that your new Bible came in and use it as your cover. You can even slit two sides of the box so your bible can slip in n out with ease. It will truly impress your girl friend or wife :p
