Home, many people get baptize and think well I'm holy know and I cannot sin, it's my job to tell them different and cause them to focus on the cross.

1 Peter 3:21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

When you use the word "symbolize", it is referring that you are using it as a symbol or an example towards something. The water is use as an allegory or spiritual meaning of becoming purify or consecrated for someone.
Wow.. See, this is the ignorance of scripture that just baffles me...
I'm just sitting here shaking my head.

okay, listen up. CONTEXT!!!!

What are the prior verses talking about ? The FLOOD OF NOAH! So WHAT waters "symbolize" baptism ??? The flood waters!!! lol
To say that this verse says baptism is a symbol is just.... never mind. Just forget it, lol

Probably never... that was before the great commission wasnt it ? And the thief didnt go to heaven that day, he went to the same place Jesus went to preach to all who were disobedient since the days of Noah... as Peter says.
( we've been over this. )

How are we justified before God? That is the question you need to ask. Are we justified by the blood of Jesus? Or are we justified by being baptized?

We are redeemed by the blood of Christ. But, there are only 2 places in scripture that I know of that says how we get 'into' Christ.

1.Galatians 3: [SUP]27 [/SUP]For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

2. Romans 6:[SUP]3 [/SUP]Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? [SUP]4 [/SUP]We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

And what does being "in Christ" do for us ?

1. Ephesians 1:[SUP]7 [/SUP]In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace...

2. Thess 4:[SUP]16 [/SUP]For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

This is solid scripture... please listen!

"in him" as in by the price He paid. Slaves were freed by a ransom paid. As He paid the ransom of our sins

The phrase "in him" in Eph 1:7 means thru Christ we have redemption (see also Col 1:14 and Col 2:13)
The phrase "in Christ" in 1 Thes 4:16 means all those who participate in the salvation of Christ.
Because I couldn't quite explain it correctly I used the notes from the New Geneva Study Bible NKJV

Look, we are saved by grace through faith... through that faith we obey the gospel. Baptism is God's plan, not mine.
Baptism is not a work we do, but rather God's work.
To read a good treatise on this, I recommend Luther's Large catechism, where he is 100% correct, until he gets to infant baptism. ( imo )
The Large Catechism - Book of Concord

Yes we are saved by grace thru faith (I believe I said that before). We are called to be baptized by water as a show of our faith to God publicly. And yes I do think Christians should be baptized but not as part of saving grace but a show of our obedience to God.
Things that were said before in this thread were saying we needed to be baptized to be saved. Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are saved.

Okay... show me in the scripture that once we "accept Jesus as Lord and savior" we are saved. And please show me where water baptism is to show our faith to God publicly.

If you cannot do that, then you need to question why you believe it.

Did Paul not call Jesus Lord on the road to Damascus ? And yet his sins were not forgiven until he was baptized by Ananias. Acts 22:12-16

And didnt Peter say that baptism saves us ? 1 Peter 3:20-21

And doesnt Paul say we are BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST ? Romans 6:2-4 and Galatians 3:27-29 ???

How can you say we are in Christ before baptism when Paul says we are BAPTIZED into Christ ?

Notice everything I say is in scripture, and what you are believing is not. Please think about that.

John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 14:6 Jesus answered " I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

We have to take scripture as a whole...

We know to simply believe is not enough. James says even the demons believe... James 2:20
Jesus himself said why do you call me Lord and do not what I say ? Luke 6:46

If we just take the verses you gave at face value, we wouldnt even have to repent, etc right ?

Look, if Im wrong help me out. Please explain the verses I listed :
Acts 22:12-16
1 Peter 3:20-21
Romans 6:2-4
Galatians 3:27-29
Ephesians 5:25-26 "[SUP]25 [/SUP]Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, [SUP]26 [/SUP]that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water..."

Now for you to argue your point on baptism you need to go back to my question I asked not long ago. How are we justified?
The reason is this....If we are not justified we cannot be saved.
So answer this question plain and simple...how are we justified?

Okay, I'll answer your question ( again ) even though you refuse to even acknowledge anything I say or ask you... but this will be the last time.

We are Justified by faith, Romans 5:1 "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we[SUP][a][/SUP] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

And works, James 2: [SUP]24 [/SUP]"You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone."

there are two baptisms in scripture, of water and spirit, as John the baptizer pointed out.
but there is one baptism, as the scriptures say.

is it water or spirit?

i have a friend, Joe, who was washed ashore on a deserted island, with food and supplies to live, and with a bible.
can Joe, a sinner never knowing God, be saved? is the scripture, time & health to read it, and a God who sees everyone enough?

i believe if Joe needs to be baptized with water, God Himself can do so with rain or the sea, without anyone to administer his rites or hold his head, and without apologizing to those he'd sinned against in person or evangelizing to another living soul. my God is strong to save.

should we be baptized with water? yes, the apostles practiced it, and in the historical context it was a public display of discipleship. which is what the 'great commission' was - to initiate, train and 'make' disciples. not "fans" or "followers." if for no other reason, we ought to be baptized publicly to avoid being a stumbling block!
