What in the (edit) was a gun instructor showing a NINE-year-old girl how to use an uzi sub-machine gun for?!! Why did'nt he give her a pistol or something like that instead? SMH. Moreover, why does a nine year old even NEED to learn how to fire a gun? He should have known she could'nt handle the recoil from the gun!! Such stupidity. #tragicandneedless

According to first reports, this was the little girls birthday and her favorite wish was to shoot an Uzi.

My generation started out with bows and arrows and pellet guns in our elementary school years in the back yard and out camping and by junior high we were training in the Boy Scouts with .22 rifles. By the 10th grade we were proficient with pistols, rifles, and shotguns and at some point in high school (depending on the maturity we displayed); most of our parents allowed us to take ownership of the firearms we used. Over 110 million Americans passed through the Boy Scouts of America which offered institutional gun safety and mentored training classes using live ammunition. Both we, society, and the nation were all better people who were better prepared for it.

The problem is NOT "guns" as the left would have you believe: the problem is leftardism... lol.

The colossal breakdown of the family respite with tens of millions of unmentored, unmonitored, unaccountable, and unloved fatherless single-mother children wandering the terrain; the almost complete abandonment of Christian values in people's lives and behavior (though many appear to have retained the illusion in name only for some reason), the rapid escalation and use of drugs and alcohol to get high and drunk (often as a way of life), etc... etc... etc...

That's the REAL problem. I just call it leftardation... lol. Why? Because it makes me laugh and also because so many of the above are on the left.

That is insane!! SMH in absolute shock. The parents should have said no way, your too young to handle a weapon like that. Sooo irresponsible of the parents AND the teacher. He should have known she couldnt handle the recoil.

He should have shown her how it shoots first. So that she could see the recoil in an experienced experts hands and then decide if she wanted to risk it.
At best he should have only put a couple bullets in the clip. But from the tenor of the report on this awful tragedy it was a full clip.

The gun range alllows children as young as 5 or 8, I can't recall which because I watched the news report this the day it happened, to shoot as long as they have a parent(s) or guardian present and with consent.
The gun range and its holding company are reviewing their policies now due to this shooting.

The horror, besides what the little girl suffered in realizing she killed a man on her birthday, is that the man's family, his wife and children, actually have a record, when the tape is now in custody of authorities, of how their loved one died. The parents of the little girl caught the whole thing on their cell phone/video.
 
This girl couldn't have been raised on guns or she would have been scared of the recoil. I am a grown woman and I still choose "ladies" caliber guns due to recoil, Ruger bull barrel 22 for handgun and .243 Winchester for rifle. A child raised on guns learns respect for them but then again respect in any form seems to be a dying trait.

It won't be long before the parents of this child (who are equally culpable) file a lawsuit against the owners of the gun range for the emotional trauma that their daughter sustained. As cold hearted as it may sound, the only persons involved in this tragedy that I feel sympathy for is the child and the family of the deceased instructor.

My heart goes out to this girl. I hope her and the family of the instructor find peace. That said.

How many teens kill people with cars? How many of them become anti car activist?

I will admit it is highly unforgiving of me, but incidents like these are used as ammunition by the anti-gun lobbies here in the US to restrict law abiding citizen's rights to own firearms. If this was just a regular gun owner it would be bad enough, but this guy was an instructor. The anti-gun lobbies will rapidly point to this man and say that if a qualified instructor allowed something like this to happen, then just think what could happen at the hands of an "unqualified, untrained" private citizen.

Back in the days when I owned firearms I would never allow someone to fire a larger caliber weapon of mine without firsthand knowledge that they had the experience and skill necessary to handle the weapon. That is just simple common sense.

In this case it was only the grace of God that kept this tragedy limited to a single injury/fatality. The now deceased instructor's foolish decision placed every person on the firing line at risk.

I understand what you're saying and I know the anti-gun groups will use this as propaganda. I just think we, as Christians, need to look at this as an error in judgement that the man made (we all make them) and he paid the ultimate price for it. Had nothing more happened than a spray of bullets hitting a wall or something, then the man definitely should have been disciplined. No question.
What happened was a tragedy. It wasn't the gun's fault and it wasn't the little girl's fault. It was the instructor's fault, but we should show some compassion toward him. He paid for his error with his life.

That's why you put a soft knee pad up over your arm and into the front 'tuck pocket' of your right (shooter) shoulder before firing that thing off. I'd love to fire that a few rounds. OK, maybe more than a few I admit.

It may be unforgiving, but it is the absolute truth. I agree with what Oncefallen posted in regards to that the instructor was foolish and negligent to put a fully automatic Uzi in the hands of an unlearned nine year old child. I dont think the instructor deserved death, of course not, but he had to be aware that she might not have been able to handle the gun's recoil. If he had been a more responsible instructor, this tragedy might not have happened. Any idiot knows that an unlearned shooter, especially a child, is gonna have problems shooting off ANY gun, ESPECIALLY an Uzi!! I'm with Oncefallen on this: the only sympathy I have is for the child because she must feel terrible at what has happened, and she will most likely need psycho therapy now. I feel sympathy for the family of the instructor, having lost a life in such a way, BUT I do not feel sympathy for the girl's parents who were STUPID enough to let their daughter even try handling a loaded, fully automatic Uzi. I feel sorry that the instructor died, but his own foolish negligence in teaching this child how to handle such a weapon led to his own death. The girl's parents AND the instructor should have told her they did not feel comfortable with her handling an Uzi. Simple as that.

Hopefully the other instructors at this gun range will learn a lesson from this senseless tragedy, and make sure that their young students are FULLY instructed and learned on how to fire off an Uzi, or any gun for that matter. It still baffles me WHY the instructor of the girl even AGREED to let her do it. I would have said, "i'm sorry but I dont feel comfortable teaching you how to use this type of weapon." Too bad the instructor did'nt take that stance--maybe he'd still be alive. Probably out of a job, but still alive at least.
