it wouldn't tilt sideways...i calculated this in a similar argument about a year ago...
the falling structure was so massive that it would have taken the horizontal force of a major hurricane to cause it to deviate from falling straight down by even a single degree...
basically your scenario involves a 200,000 ton structure stopping and saying...'gee i'm running into a lot of resistance following the force of gravity...i had better act like i'm being pushed on by a tremendous horizontal force that -simply isn't there- and start leaning sideways a couple of hundred feet'
Well, firstly, buildings are not sentient beings and don't think. Tell me why the building shown in the clip below started to collapse straight down but then fell toward the camera. In WTC building two the airplane hit the corner, therefore the building should have tilted in that direction (toward the weakest point).
5 story building collapse on construction worker - YouTube

well first of all a five story building has much less mass than the world trade center towers had...a five story building would have taken much less horizontal force to cause it to deviate from falling straight down...
and secondly...there actually -was- a slight tilt as the world trade center towers were falling...

the resistance of the lower part of the tower caused the upper part of the tower to 'tumble' slightly...but as i mentioned it was physically impossible for any of the forces involved to cause the path of the falling structure itself to deviate by more than a miniscule amount...

And finally, a little help for our trolls in the thread......
I'm glad you brought that up. The law of conservation of angular momentum decrees that the top of building two should have continued its path of swinging outward. It didn't, due to explosives.
End of story.
again you are wrong...the upper part of the building would not have swung outward...it would have simply continued to rotate around its center of mass...which is exactly what we see in some of the footage of the towers' collapse...
if you doubt this then try an experiment...drop a pencil while giving it a slight 'tilting' force...the pencil will still fall straight down but it will rotate as it falls...it will -not- become a horizontal projectile unless you give it a horizontal force...and as i already pointed out the upper part of the tower was far too massive for it to be moved horizontally by anything less than a tremendous force...
this photo was taken during the cleanup operation...obviously the crews would have done a lot of cutting of the steel beams into manageable pieces that could be hauled away...
