Preconceived ideas about another for a multitude of reasons usually causes the problems. Ego is usually the catalyst. A certain amount of pretense is also wanting others to perceive them differently than they see themselves deep inside. In a Christian chat there is even more potential for argument because the Word can be very convicting. In most cases the arguments are about law, grace, faith, obedience, justification, righteousness, etc. Many have diverse views of those things, but it is sad to argue rather than become humble by accepting the other persons understanding if it confirmed by other scriptures of truth. Many times people just pick out certain things from another person's post just for the sake of arguing, and throwing things in that are not relevant to what the other person said.
In summary, all things written in God's word fit together through Christ, and there should never be arguments deriving from personal interpretation by taking scripture purposefully out of context just to demean another person or to distort the truth by selective quoting. If we would just stop and think long enough that our view should be through the eyes of God and not through ourselves it would work and edify rather than tear apart as our Lord would have it.
