Er... JesusLives, have you tried just rebooting the computer? As in turning it off and turning it back on? Not putting it to sleep and waking it back up, turning it completely off and rebooting completely.

Well I made a point of specifying turning it off because Windows 7, by default, goes to sleep when you hit the power button. That is stupid because a computer sometimes needs to completely shut down and reboot. Windows has been doing a lot of stupid defaults like that lately. If your computer hasn't fully rebooted for a good two years, a lot of problems can crop up that could be solved by a simple reboot.

Yeah, she is going to give it the boot alright. She is going to boot it into next Tuesday.

Believe it or not I really do close all the programs and shut it down every night....and have done that at least 3 times today and now I just have a black screen....Where's a good Geek when you need one?
 
I'm a good geek, but I'm a good distance from the afflicted computer.

Have you tried booting from a linux live disk? A whole different OS should work unless it's a hardware problem.
