Think what you may. I have been on the other side of abuse and I know I am better then that. I don't need a man to put me down or hit me.
 
It's never ok may it be man or woman that's why we have free will and legs to walk away.

But we can exercise the same free will in employing reasonable means to solve a problem, which may include a physical strike.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not infallible, and neither do I claim to be. I'm just arguing the case as I see it. If you disagree, you are free to put forward opposing arguments.

Maddog you state that striking someone is a reasonable means to solve a problem. Thus I must ask:
Would you physically strike your boss?
Would you physically strike a coworker?

Do you physically strike your parents/parent?

Depends what the problem was. However, those scenarios are entirely different, namely because a man has authority over his wife whereas he does not over his boss.

So a regional manager has every right to physically strike employees?

( Since he would be in authority over them and (as you have stated earlier) striking someone is a reasonable means to solve a problem.)

Depends on the job. Some I think it's more appropriate than others. For instance, a teacher giving a kid a clip round the ear, or an NCO striking a lower ranking soldier.
 
Now it depends on the job? Cmon! If striking someone is a reasonable means to solve a problem then it should be available to all of those in authority!

Why would striking someone, if you have the authority, not be appropriate?

Because in lots of settings, depending on the type of work, hitting someone isn't going to do any good.
 
If there are to be certain circumstances where it is deemed acceptable then eventually someone will question why the line is drawn there and they will take it upon themself to widen the scope and eventually society could degrade back to the point where we had corporal punisment in schools and people will punch eachother when they each consider themselves sufficently provoked, to avoid all that I say I am generally against it, excepted only when done in self-defence.

I think if someone is raised correctly with good discipline things should rarely ever get to the point where anyone considers a slap or punch to be the best choice, in many adults violence begets violence, and no matter what the reason for hitting someone, chances are they won't see the reasoning behind your actions and will just strike back.

I wouldn't consider that degradation.

I agree that this is the ideal. However, I'm just not prepared to say that physical discipline is always wrong.

Can you just clarify exactly what you mean?, are you saying you agree with corporal punishment or that you agree with the idea that each person can decide for themselves what is fair punishment and apply that punishment themselves?

I'm just not clear on exactly what you are saying here, thanks :-)

Sorry, I meant corporal punishment in schools. To be perfectly honest, I'm not particularly advocating it, I just don't see it as wrong.

Hitting solves not and brings fear to the people you hit. That's not good at all.
