A lot of it, misleading like this new guy lacrae, false movements, trying to make a buck one way or the other. If it's not some other worldly rapper they give you this guy...

By 'new' you mean he's been rapping for 10 years?

To OP. Try the Music Forums.

What movement is this exactly? He's preaching Jesus to the world and his music sounds great - bound to be popular.

This. Even Abraham, Job, and Jesus found favor with the worldly while not being of the world. I don't see how this is any different.

someone needs to just pin 4-5 threads in this forum for a handful of genres.

YES a body does listen to gospel rap.

I meant new in the sense to him turning so popular.
The christian rap movement itself as well.

are you saying we shouldn't like him?

because people liking his music and loving his message are the reason he's popular

Lecrae knows what kinds of things you say about him. he even wrote a song about it a couple years ago:

it turns in to lacrea worship and not God worship, You can't act worldly and do the same thing the world does and call it God like.
If you turn this music up around someone else, what would they say when hearing it? The teen that listen to rap will say, yea this is something I can jam to because it's the same sounds and vibrations of the world, just dressed up in Jesus, you don't want to be hip or hop lol...be yourself, if hiphop weren't here, what would you listen to?

look for real worship music, where your attention is focused on Christ

You never want to be outside of yourself and we want to do what we can to praise God.

We aren't here to go to lacrae concerts, where here to praise Jesus. Need a praise Jesus concert.

i agree with you.

but what are you going to tell a teenager (or anyone else) who thinks Hillsong (or any other contemporary 'praise' music) sounds lame, and is immediately turned off by the sound of it?
or a man grew up a thug, immersed in this music and was converted in jail - do you send him a Gaither Brothers CD?
i believe there is a time and a place for Lecrae & others like him.

how do i know what "real worship music" sounds like? what makes it "real worship" ? do pianos and pipe organs and alto boys choirs make music "real worship" or is it something else?

All music is good to God as long as it is respectful, loving, caring, and uplifting or edifying.

If you listen to Christian rock, and it makes you fell good or bring you to a better place spiritually with God then there is nothing wrong with it.
This goes with rap, metal, country, gospel, or what ever type of music you like.......

There are those who like the contemporary mellow soft Christian music, but there are others who like the more upbeat and faster paced Christian music. There is nothing wrong with either.

As for what is proper for in the churches, all I can say is this;
I know churches who play the more upbeat rock style and even rap style music and 100's have flocked to those churches and have come to know the Lord.
Same as with the mellow music churches, so why do we debate the issue if they bring people to God?

You can say the same with preachers, I have seen a lot of people come to churches with a fun upbeat preacher's sermon.
I have also seen the opposite, people leaving a church do to saying the preacher was to mellow and boring and could not keep their attention.

Each person comes to God in different ways through our Lord.

i agree with Ken ^

as far as congregational music, it's the body that should worship, not just the choir, pianist or band, whatever t is, if there even is one. we need to remember not to set 'stumbling stones' in each other's paths.

for most of my life i've despised rap & hip-hop music. it's only been in the last 3-4 years that God has put people in my life that have shown me the truth and the spirit in these artists. i don't appreciate Christian rap because i like the style; i love the Spirit!! these are my brothers & sisters too.

so even though it is not my style, i've come to also see the worship and praise in this:

& i can dig. :)
