Chapter 1 -
Noah's Ark and the Global Flood (Continued).
Act 2 - (The Flood That Ended The Old World)

And every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. (Genesis 7:14b-15). Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah. (Genesis 7:8-9).

And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. (Genesis 7:10). And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. (Genesis 7:6).In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. (Genesis 7:11).

And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood (Genesis 7:7). In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, (Genesis 7:13a) They, (Genesis 7:14a) and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; (Genesis 7:13b). And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him:

And the LORD shut him in. (Genesis 7:16).

And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:12).

And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. (Genesis 7:17-23).

For ... God (2 Peter 2:4) spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; (2 Peter 2:5) Making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; (2 Peter 2:6b).

And the rain from heaven was restrained; (Genesis 8:2b) The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped,
(Genesis 8:2a). And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest or the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. (Genesis 8:6-9).

And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days. (Genesis 7:24).

Chapter 1 - Noah's Ark and the Global Flood (Continued).

Act 3
-
(The End of the Flood)

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; (Genesis 8:1). And after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. (Genesis 8:3b). And the waters returned from off the earth continually: (Genesis 8:3a).

And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more. (Genesis 8:10-12).

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. (Genesis 8:4-5).

And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

And God spake unto Noah, saying,
"Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee. Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth." (Genesis 8:13-17)

And Noah (Genesis 8:18a), and his sons, (Genesis 8:18c) that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: (Genesis 9:18b). And his wife, and his sons' wives (Genesis 8:18d) went forth: (Genesis 8:18b) with him (Genesis 8:18e). Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. (Genesis 8:19).

And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour;

And the LORD said in his heart,
"I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." (Genesis 8:20-22).

It's something, that the earth was so wicked and Noah and family were never harmed, instead was able to concentrate on making such a massive project with no worry. The only thing that could've harmed him was the wrath of God, which he followed orders and was spared.

I believe the Lord works thru a person to obey God's Commands when they are spiritually regenerated (After repentance and acceptance of the Lord as one's Savior). I believe the ultimate credit for the work is God. Yes, we have to obey God; But it is more of a yielding to the Spirit and the work God wants to do within us. For Noah was not obeying so as to be saved but he was obeying because he was saved.

For Ezekiel says this:

"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26-27).

However, if one seeks to be saved by works without being saved by God's mercy and without the renewing of the Spirit (Titus 3:5), then they are attempting to be justified by the deeds of the Law and not by God's grace. For Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord before he was given any commands by God. In other words, works do not save a person, but works is the proof in the pudding that one has been saved or that God lives within them.

Yeah, I know he was already saved and therefore doing Gods work, not the other way, I'm just saying, the world was so corrupted but God had him protected and without worry to build this massive project.

26 Look at the birds in the air. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. And you know that you are worth much more than the birds. 27 You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? Look at how the lilies in the field grow. They don't work or make clothes for themselves. 29 But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. 30 God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today but tomorrow is thrown into the fire. So you can be even more sure that God will clothe you. Don't have so little faith! 31 Don't worry and say, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' 32 The people who don't know God keep trying to get these things, and your Father in heaven knows you need them. 33 The thing you should want most is God's kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you. 34 So don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:26-34

Yea, I don't think it's about our works, it's His works that are righteous, who lives in us. We get grace and mercy, we repent, He lives in us and we do good works through Him. All the things we need will be given to us. Not because of what we do, because He loves us.

Chapter 1 - Noah's Ark and the Global Flood (Continued).

Act 3
-
(The End of the Flood)

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark:
God remembered Noah and all who were alive on the Ark. This does not mean that God forgot about Noah and those on the Ark. This is speaking in physical terms in relation to the flood going away so as to give Noah, his family, and the animals a new world to live in.

and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; (Genesis 8:1). And after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. (Genesis 8:3b). And the waters returned from off the earth continually: (Genesis 8:3a).
Under the right factors, wind today can lower the Earth's waters and or prevent water levels from rising.

Noah waited another 7 days before sending the dove out of the Ark to explore. I believe that this is in reference to the fact that Noah sent the dove out multiple times and not just the one time previously as mentioned before in Scripture. Hence the words "he stayed yet other seven days." Meaning, the word "other" is saying "another", which is supported by the context of the following word "again."

For the dove would not be able to find an olive tree before the 150th day.

Interesting, the moon effects tides as well, when fishing, I remember one time, as tide changed, for about 5 full minutes, the fish thought it was lunch time or something, then the bass just cut off, no more fish.

I believe the waters would have to be abated way more than 7 days past "Day 150" in order for the dove to retrieve an olive leaf.

He kept trying, he didn't lose faith, he kept shooting the dove out there with hope... That it return with life.

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.
Seventeenth day of the month.

Number 17 means "Victory."

Our Lord was crucified on the occasion of the celebration of the passover, which came on the fourteenth day of the month (Leviticus 23:5). Luke tellsabout our Lord eating the passover with His disciples the same night that Heinstituted His memorial supper. (Luke 22:13-20). That same night Judasbetrayed Him (1 Corinthians 11:23). He was taken that night before the highpriest. The next morning He was taken before Pilate and was delivered up tobe crucified (Luke 22:47 thru Luke 23:33). Remembering that God reckoned timefrom one evening to the next evening. (Genesis 1:5), then it was still the 14th day of the month when Christ was crucified. He was dead 3 days and nights. (Matthew 12:40). These 3 days added to the 14th day would bring it to the 17th day of the monthwhen our Lord became victorious over death and the grave. After Israel went out of Egypt on the 14th day of the month theymade 3 days journey and crossed the Red Sea. (See Exodus 8:27; 12:1-13; 12:37; 13:20; 14:1-2). Thus in the night of the 17th day ofthe month they made the passage of the Red Sea making a picture of theresurrection. When they came out of that sea at the break of day they sangthe song of "Victory" (Ex. 15:1-21). In the opening of that song they said,"I will sing unto the Lord, for He hath triumped gloriously." (v. 1). In that great day when the saints of God shall have been made victorious overthe grave they shall sing God's praises and shout, "O death where is thy sting?O grave where is thy victory? Thanks be unto God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).

17 also sometimes symbolizes a new beginning, too.

For the time that Noah's ark had rested on Mount Ararat before the flood waters had completely abated later on. For it was showing that God's judgment had ended and that a new life was about to begin for Noah. Just as Christ's resurrection before He obtained eternal redemption up in Heaven was about to begin a new life for us.

Noah, his family, and the animals gained the victory in surviving the Judgment that destroyed the whole world.
But they did not gain this final victory until leaving the Ark. It was the Ark itself that gained victory on the 17th; The Ark that symbolizes Jesus Christ gained the victory first. For Jesus is the first fruits of the resurrection.

And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. (Genesis 8:4-5).
"The tops of the mountains seen."

Genesis 8:3 says that the waters were abated by the end of the 150 days. This suggests that the waters had already gone down a long way, the fountains of the great deep having been stopped and the rain having ceased after just 40 days. It seems therefore reasonable to conclude that the Ark beached, not on the TOP of a mountain but somewhere much lower down, perhaps even somewhere that was reasonably sheltered. From this perspective, it seems quite natural to believe that, at this stage the tops of the mountains were not visible, not because they were still underwater, but because the mountains were shrouded in mist or low cloud, like mountains so often are. Alternatively the visibility may have been generally bad, as a result of a general haziness or mistiness. Either is possible: we expect the atmosphere to have been carrying a great deal of water vapour at that time, and very probably other material that impaired the visibility. It is quite perfectly credible that more than 70 days passed before the mistiness (or worse) passed and the mountain tops became visible. The Ark was safely grounded, and the waters continued to recede away from it, throughout this period.

The traditional interpretation of Genesis 8:4-5 does not appear to be consistent with the conditions which may be reasonably expected to have obtained during the Flood. An alternative scenario, in which the Ark grounded in relatively sheltered conditions, well below the mountain tops, is not only possible but reasonably probable.

also, the seventeenth word in the bible is "and". it occurs between "form" and "void", so God is telling us that he has victory over the void, and will bring organization to the earth after the flood.

It reminds me of a related (but not an exact) idiom when people say, "that doesn't hold water"; Which is said in relation to if something is true or not. Jesus Christ is the Ark who held up against a great amount of water (i.e. the Flood). Granted, this idiom is giving us a picture about holding in or in retaining water. So while this is is not a precise idiom here, I believe that an object (Like the Ark) being able to hold against water is doing the same basic thing. It is holding water in the reverse sense of keeping water out (of the Ark). Thus showing it is holding water (but in reverse). So it is a related idiom (All be it, not an exact one).
