Why christians shouldn't celebrate Christmas.

Personally, I go to church on Saturday as that is the Sabbath, But I have no problem with anyone who goes to church on Sunday. It's not a sin to go to church on Sunday. Any and every day you can get to church is a good thing.

A better question would be, "Do the Bible, Jesus or the Disciples tell us to celebrate those days?" Even if they were to be as important to Christianity as we say they are, don't you think they would have addressed it somewhere?

Oh I'm sure they would, but that's not the point. How would you feel if everyone decided to celebrate your birthday 3 months before it happened? And how would you feel if they only reason they chose that particular day was because they wanted to worship other gods at the same time? Wouldn't you rather them celebrate your birthday on your actual birthday? And all the while, you never told them to?

It seems I get into trouble when I respond so I'll try not to here.I dont think He cares when we celebrate His birthday and it wouldn't bother me either.As far as worshiping other Gods at the same time can you tell me what you mean? Santa maybe? Never had Santa statues or pictures in our home growing up.We knew Santa wasnt real at a very young age,as soon as we could understand.

I would encourage you to take a look at Scripture and see how God views His people mixing their worship of Him with the nations around them. Also, take a look at how God teaches and views times and dates and see whether He is particular about those dates.

Also, I'm not saying christians are worshipping 2 different gods at christmas. But when you study the origins of christmas and how and why it was started, you'll see a lot of pagan worship going on and people trying to both at the same time.

I agree and no doubt...Jeremiah 10:1-8 and the simple fact of how that got translated into the worship of the birth of Jesus should cast up flags.....second...did Paul write...If I am to glory I will glory in the birth of Jesus? of did he say that we are to glory in the cross of Christ? Third, the WORLD practices this holy-day and are we not to come out from the world and be separate saith the LORD? Fourth an honest evaluation of the historicity of the modern day practice should cap it off, but people will argue and at the end of the day people will do what people want to do and will justify it by all means available....!

Another set of points I agree with.........
 
I had failed to mention this before but had thought of it.The days of the week have pagan traditions,so do you still say Sunday,Monday,Tues. etc ? If you do you are taking part in paganism.Here is an excellent response... There's nothing wrong with talking and teaching about these things Tin, just as long as it doesn't get into some sort of "judgement-fest". (which sadly it does become at times)

To some extent you're correct kayla, there are pagan traditions all around us in our society. We can't avoid it. So yes, today is Sunday and tomorrow will be Monday and I was born in February which comes from a Roman god. But again, the difference is whether we're ascribing specific worship to God via pagan traditions specifically meant to worship pagan gods.

These types of threads serve a valuable purpose. If they were not here, ranters would infect other parts of the forum to do their ranting. And we don't want that, now do we?
 
The top of the page says Bible discussion.I dont see why a thread needs to die if it is within those parameters.JMO
 
Her Majesty the Queen has an official Birthday as well as her actual birthday, so its not exactly wrong to have an official birthday for Christ even though we have no idea when it really was.

kinda like teaching for doctrine the traditions of men...the world does it so let's do it too..conforming with an excuse...Adam nature....

one simple question which required a yes or no answer... look at the excuse and putting the blame on God...its the woman YOU gave me...

God say don't conform ...you say it's the ruler you gave us they do it so we do it too...

I don't think he does either, especially since his birthday can't be pinned with too much, if any, accuracy. I don't think it matters if or when you celebrate the birth of Jesus, and I think it's surely a faithful act of worship if you so choose to celebrate Christmas as the birth of the Savior.

The whole discussion over Christmas is borderline absurd.

Right. Nobody is bowing down to the pine trees in their homes; nobody is offering them sacrifices or offerings. Nobody is worshiping Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, St. Nicholas, Jack Frost, Mr. Scrooge, Little Jack Horner, or Ralphie (though he has become TBS' form of Christmas liturgy).

For us, Christmas is a time when my family actually gets together (we're literally spread across the nation and world) and spend some rare quality time together. My mother does decorate the house a little. We do have a fake tree in a room. The cats like playing in it. We attend a Christmas Eve service where the familiar verses from Luke are read and we sing songs to and about our Lord and Savior. We spend Christmas day mostly hanging out and pigging out followed by heavy napping.

Oh, if anyone could only stop all that heresey, paganism, and idolatry from taking place! It's absurd on it's face to call any of this idolatry or pagan. And to complain about the origins of some of our holiday practices is a blatant genetic fallacy and as such shouldn't be entertained by any rational person. Whatever their origins may or may not have been, the observed practices are what they are now.

Also interesting, a large chunk of my family observes Christmas on Jan 6th. But this begins to blow holes in pagan origin claims that I will save for another post.

Old Christmas day? A tradition where my mother is from.Jan 6 I totally agree with you! Its a time for family to come together.It is also a time of year where non Christians usually come to church to see plays their children take part in.Just never understood Christians against Christmas.

This date is celebrated by Eastern Christianity, and it seems to have been observed in Egypt the late 2nd century (according to Clement of Alexandria).
