That doesn't limit us to always avoid making someone angry for a just cause. I could add to that versethis out of context....
Proverbs 25:15 (KJV) [SUP]15 [/SUP] By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

Jesus used rather harsh words and made many angry with them. Telling someone eye to eye "Get behind me Satan" could result in problems with a friend. That's why I think it best to add some context to that cited verse. It goes like this:
Proverbs 15:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

From those combined in greater context I take a lesson verified in the remainder of that chapter. A fool falls into mischief speaking harshly without wisdom and knowledge. But even soft words of a fool without wisdom and knowledge can prevent anger of hearers. Please don't let that word "fool" alarm anyone. Foolishness is a central theme in that chapter.
Thank you..that is pretty much what I was asking!

everyday I lose a little more respect for Christianity. I'm starting to think of all of Christianity as nothing but a giant club for trolls.
Don't look to people " trolls including ", look to Christ. He's the only perfect One.

Here is how I see it. Some ppl are called to convict others to move their spirit to change their ways and non Christians will use that whole Jesus is love and you are judging. well does a parent not discipline a child or sternly tell them not to do something?

The right way to teach a message is one of both love and conviction, in my opinion if you don't know how to do both you are not ready to teach because even love convicts

One of the most famous sermons ever "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Johnathan Edwards.
Yup, and he delivered it in a near monotone voice and yet God's Spirit used it to bring heavy conviction on the hearers.

Such Proverbs aren't catchall prophecies, rather wisdom, general principles. For instance, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Some never get old, in the first place. We all know there are "bad seed" of Christian families, not generally so, but many coming from Christian homes that went down the tubes, this as to Proverbs being intended as absolutes, or, like most things in the Bible, having no context for application.

Regarding speech, then, we'd have to believe our Lord Jesus needed to get the word (His Old Testament word!), before Matthew 23. (Have mercy, run for cover!) Also,

Titus 1:12-14 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Sumtimes, dey jes needs ta' likes it, 'er lumps it, mah usual two cents, dime fer inflation.

Ya started off wit a strat cue, but ended up wit da 8 in da ran poke. In outsider language that means the cue (stick) break of all the balls in a triangle sank the right pool balls, allowing the starting player to keep taking shots and perhaps "running" the table to a win without a single opponent. But the dreaded remaining 8 ball was sent to the wrong (not declared) table pocket. Jes doin a liddle kiddin the way folks in Eunice LA do.

Wisdom is timeless, for all generations. It can't change, else isn't wisdom. Knowledge can change just by being added to. The wrong knowledge can be discarded, purifying knowledge. But wisdom remains. It is each generation of man that departs from wisdom of God, or adheres to it. All our problems today around the globe can be explained somewhere in Proverbs in terms of rejecting, or solutions by accepting, that wisdom.

I have spent countless hours preaching to and teaching the homeless in shelters, the felons in programs and years ago in the prisons and jails, the addicts in programs today meant to reduce the prison population. Want to guess their favorite topic? It is Proverbs. Each and every chapter brings them to their knees repenting before God. Why? Because God puts them as actors within the text. Churchy messages about love? Rejected. Most grew up seeing the hypocrites in their churches, mainly their parents, cancel love by keeping pet sins. In the second or third month of ministry those people begin taking a new look at the love of God. Trust begins to develop, they creep back to God, we hope fully submitted before the system makes them move on to the next state mandated step.

We are to witness and testify of Christ. We do this according to the scriptures. Jesus was not a soft preacher. Jesus called the religious leaders of the day a den of vipers. Jesus drove the money changers from the temple. Drove them out not asked them nicely to leave.

I'm all for kindness and mercy in your witness but I'm not hesitant to tell others that Jesus saved me from hell which I full deserved.

We need to speak a message of truth and trust God to minister in the hearts of the hearers. God has said that when His word goes forth it accomplishes that to which He has purposed it. His word never returns to Him void.

Trust God to do what He purposes. Preach the word and tell of how good it is to be saved.

The one that brings the truth is not judging as those on this post seem to say

It is the Lord's Word that judges .... not the messenger

It's a fine line for sure.

I'm happy to discuss anything with anyone but as soon as I get threatened with hell then that's when I get annoyed with people.

Some are forceful with their threats others say all they are doing is warning me. Either way scaremongering is certainly not a good tactic.

Apologies if Ive built an unintentional straw man, just going on personal experience.

I have been thinking about this a lot recently..(and someones thread gave me the idea to ask others),so I will ask you, does it bother you when people..mostly non-christian's I think..use the whole don't judge others, like Jesus was just about the whole kumbyah sitting around the campfire holding hands stuff..do you think that maybe we should be spreading a little harsher message, because in the end we are going to be judged, so shouldn't we be spreading the what not to do message more along with the Jesus is love message? (I mean obviously you need to be free of the sin yourself before "judging" or helping others maybe a better term). Ok that has been on my mind for awhile so thanks for sharing your thought with me..:)

Sister Angelmommmie,
May these verses help to give you a better understanding and ease your mind
:)

Jude 1:
21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

2 Timothy 4:
2
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

1 Peter 2:
11
Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

1 Peter 2:15
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I really like your thoughts..thank you for sharing!

To take this into "Living Bible" terms, let me tell this. Our youngest granddaughter was being found in a fetal position here and there. We began to suspect epilepsy or something like that. Tests revealed no medical problems. I began to watch more closely. It became evident it always happened near electric outlets, so I had a good clue to pursue. It turned out she was putting a bobby pin meant for keeping hair in place into outlets holding the pin in her lips. The sensation was something her brain couldn't process. I couldn't make that child do the right thing about electricity, but I did put covers on the outlets. I did something about it without teaching a principle, and today she "knows" not to try that.

Anybody in their right mind would be scared of hell. If someone is fearing an angry God that is a good thing. One can make the necessary atonement to make peace with Almighty God and not face His sure and certain wrath upon sin.

Been my experience that most folks now they are hell bound and I don't need to point it out. God does that with far more clarity than I ever could.

I'm certainly not scared by these threats and I don't 'know' I'm hellbound. Quite the opposite.

Jesus spoke graciously to those who knew they were sinners.
Jesus spoke judgement upon those who thought they were already righteous.

A person needs to know they are a sinner before they can accept the Gospel.

There's a lot of "Christians" who think they are saved because of their "holy culture" and their doctrine,
but are still in need of a saviour. They are the hardest to reach with the Gospel, because they think they already possess it.

The drug addict doesn't need words of judgement, because they already know they are a mess-up.
The homosexual doesn't need words of judgement, because they are weighed with guilt (usually. most often expressed in anger).
The prostitute doesn't need words of judgement, because they already hate themselves for their deeds.
If someone is committing these, and yet has no guilt, no words of judgement will help them, because they are proud of their wickedness and have no faith.

Who needs words of judgement? The proud atheist, the proud nationalist, and the proud religious.

What brought you to the realization that you needed Christ? What took you passed the realization into the belief that saved you? Use that as an example of what you must do to share the Gospel with others.

I grew up in the era of fire and brimstone preaching. I don't remember a word from those sermons. I love teaching pastors who are willing to make the scriptures a part of the congregation's daily life. I like to see people discussing the sermon after church, and when they get home.

JMHO.

Their ignorance and deception is but an opportunity for me to educate them that God is both holy and loving. Many, of course won't like the message (including some who profess to be Christian). That comes with the territory.
