Lastly, before I pass out, I just wanted to say I'm so proud of Tintin. What a better way to announce that publicly than in here, where it all started? God has been moving in his life so much lately, and I can't help but sit back, laughing from joy and yet looking on with amazement.

When we see each other next, I'll make sure to give him one big koala hug, and perhaps a hug on behalf of each CC member that has supported and encouraged us along the way. That's a lot of hugs, but I think I have what it takes to fulfil such a task. There might be some beard stroking and head patting along the way, maybe even some raspberries for his neck, but I think it can be done. I am willing to do such things.

Christian, you are a wonderful blessing and a generously bearded gift in my life.
Thank you, my beautiful love! You truly are a delightful, fantastic, beyond-words blessing in my life, Arlene and I love you with every fibre of my being. May I continue to grow in intimacy with my Heavenly Father and look to Him as the Author and Perfecter of my life so I can love you more deeply. Welcome back to CC! :D

I restrung three horns today. Or I suppose it would be more accurate to say that I strung a rotor each on three separate horns today. I'm rather proud of myself, considering that it's the one repair I've avoided doing for the better part of a decade.

Now if I could only free frozen slides myself. But I think I need special tools for that. Or something that will eat the green. Suggestions, Steve?

CLR. (calcium lime remover). Mix with a little water and let it sit. Stuff cleans everything. Then you can clean your toilet with it too. Yours - Steve

Good for you on the horn stringing! I am spoiled. I have a Lidl (Czeck), which is rotary/compensating, so I don't have to deal with that anymore. I may have even forgotten how!

As for the green crud. Are they on the exposed inner tubing? If it's built up really badly, a wire brush can knock off some of that, but I would be careful around polished areas. You can use tape around areas you want to protect. Try positioning it so that valve oil will work itself in there a bit. Then once it's unstuck, get the rest of that crud off and grease that baby up with slide grease.

couldn't add in time -

do this only on the old student model instruments that have had a zillion dents removed. I'd be more hesitant on newer more expensive instruments and probably take them in or get whatever special tool. And tell your kids not to have salty snacks before playing (yeah, good luck with that). That results in the blue-green crud, which is more corrosive than the plain green crud (verdigris).

The past two days have been as follows: make bad decision, get looked down on, feel terrible, do nothing because I feel terrible, repeat.

And I totally understand 99.9999999% is my own fault. I just.....guh.

Kinda sad today. Found out my cousin in law died yesterday.. on her couch while my cousin was at work. He found her when he got home. At least she's in a much better place now..

i'm sorry for you and your family's loss. may you all find joy in the peace of knowing she's in a place where there is no more sorrow or pain, instead, basking in the glorious presence of our Lord.

Is it bad to say I can't wait to go back to work tomorrow rather than be home? It is? Oh...well...I think I don't care.

Great day at work.
I got compliments.
Makes you feel like everything is looking up in some sort of backwards way.

I am also reminded.

Also learned how to use a double broiler.
My coworkers put up with me so much! lol

I can't wait to return the favor :)

I see the goofy face emoticon, so I guess yours isn't a serious question, but for those who really MAY be confused, Shour was talking about this:

horn strings.jpg

Most modern french horns use levers and strings wrapped around the valve mechanism that pulls it open/closed. It can be tricky to put the string on correctly.

And Shour, if horn strings break while away from a maintenance kit, strong fishing line works just as well! I know this from experience, unfortunately. :D

So... ever since I discovered the wonders of voice chat on CC I haven't really been that talkative on the forums. Got home late tonight from hanging with some friends and think I missed everyone on chat. It is kind of funny how much I look forward to it.

I figured out you guys were talking about french horns (I was in marching band and concert band all through high school), but I really didn't know they had strings in them. :)

One year ago today, my dad died. I had to look up his obituary to know it was today.

I think I've been sad over the idea of him, rather than really missing him. How do you miss a person you barely knew?

I've been mourning the loss of a dream...the loss of the naive hope that someday he'd get clean, someday he'd realize he loved his kids, someday he'd snap out of it and come back to be my dad again. It was insanely hard to have that hope, however unfounded and silly, ripped out from under me. I didn't want to accept it- I'm optimistic to the point of insanity, I suppose, but I kept hoping, even as he lay in the hospital dying, that there would be some change of heart, some dawning awareness, some scrap of remorse for what he's done to his children simply by not being present.

I've thought a lot about this, since. A whole stinking lot.

It doesn't matter if he had any remorse or regrets before he breathed his last. I don't know who he was by the end, but I know I held a special place in my heart for him, regardless- no matter who he started out as, no matter what he went through or what he did or who he became, he is a part of who I am.

He may have been overcome by darkness, but he lit up the world through his children, and his grandchildren. He had something beautiful in him, and we all got it in different ways- creativity. I think it's time I let go of who I had hoped my dad would become, and thank the Lord for the father I did have, and the traits he passed on to me and my siblings. We're all a little strange, a little goofy, and a little bit like...him.
