Oh Gosh, now the government is going to set up a marriage tax and call it a privelege.
I can see it now, Come in to the DML (Dept. of Marriage Licensing) and renew your marriage permit every 5 years after taking a marriage road test :p
In our age of sexual depravity, I can only imagine what the "marriage road test" will be.

And they thought the right of first night was bad.

We acknowledge and confess our sins as sin, most gays flaunt it refusing to see it as sin, so the comparison is flawed.

Romans 1:22-28
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Confessing your sins and doing nothing about a repeat occurrence (ie. I don't give enough to the poor, forgive me God *spend $1000 on an iMac) is no better. There's a reason the commandment is 'love thy neighbour' and not 'chastise thy neighbour'. As Roamer said, it's much easier to accept and brush aside sins that are easily related to, but since homosexuality is something you don't partake in, you don't understand it, and you can jump on it. It probably even makes you feel a little more righteous to do so.

The articles are hear say scaremongering. Comparing homosexuality to bestiality is a faulty correlation. Marriage must be consensual. And of course, this is a secular society.

Secular society or not, it's still God's world and those who refuse to follow the Owners manual will end up spiritually bankrupt.
To warn people of an impending danger is not sell righteous, it's actually an act of love.

An impending danger? Crossnote, by your reckoning, God created an entire race of beings whom he knew would fall short of what he really wanted, but created them anyway, and when they fell short he sentenced them to mortality, then some many years later flooded the Earth and killed all but a small family, then sent himself to die in order to glorify himself to metaphysically rescue a small percentage of the planet who cannot themselves gain salvation but only can have it given to them, yet who must still believe a dogmatic ritualistic particular scriptural definition to garner this salvation, and the end of days sees the majority of humanity burning in a fiery furnace for all eternity, in unforgiving agony. You tell me what love is in your heart if that's what you believe is righteous and loving.

I know another group of people who thought it was righteous to burn children. Those who lived in Gehenna. There's a reason that analogy is, in the context of modern Christian beliefs, very, very ironic.

I'm very, very, very glad Jesus is a brighter man than you are. Your salvation, given by Jesus, is in your adherance to his instructions. It is the dissolving of your own hatred, anger, greed, envy, lust, spite, arrogance and pride. That's your salvation, the one Jesus offers you with every passing moment of time and the one you reject every time you hate someone, are angry at someone, have greed in you, have envy in you, are lustful, are spiteful, are proud or are arrogant. None of these things are of God, and as you know, he takes pleasure in the suffering of no being, not even Satan is condemned nor slandered by the angels themselves, and you think it righteous to pluck out the clogging dust from a homosexuals eye while you yourself understand you can never be perfect in this life. You're the person you need to work on, Crossnote, just like I'm the person I need to work on, and anyone else, regardless of their faults, are the people they need to work on.

The only authority you have is over yourself. That's the way you were born and that's the way you will die.

I brought up the passage from Romans in response to Roamer's post #5. From there you seemed to have gone ballistic. I never intended to address you knowing you are not a Christian. Seems to me you are all over the map with your preconceived false assumptions about me and the Christian God.
You don't know me from the man in the moon or how I think...your stereotypes are way off the mark. So try to talk civilly and stay on topic and off ad hominems.

Crossnote, thank you for the reference to Scripture. You seem to have missed the last few verses:

29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Your proposition that homosexual acts should not have been decriminalised because "we acknowledge and confess our sins as sin" doesn't quite make sense. Remember, criminalisation (of anything) applies to all of society, whether Christian or non-Christian. By your reasoning, acts committed by those who do not confess their sins should remain criminalised. I imagine scores of non-Christians do not confess to adultery, fornication, anger, greed, arrogance etc. because they do not know God. Should we then criminalise all of those acts because they refuse to confess?

We do not, because we acknowledge (and indeed, desire) that there is a high degree of separation between the church and the state. In addition, regardless of whether you intended it or not, there is a hint of arrogance in justifying the criminalisation of acts that 'others' commit because 'we' are so good as to confess the sins that 'we commit'.

There may be other, better reasons to oppose decriminalising homosexuality (though I cannot think of any), but I'm afraid this particular argument is flawed.

As a side note, I question the use of the term "flaunt" in relation to gay people. Yes, there are those few that go all out, Mardi Gras-style. But as most gay people go, they are just ordinary people who happen to be attracted to the same sex going about their ordinary lives.

Mandatory reading for Christians (particularly those who find it acceptable to compare legalising gay marriage to bestiality): A 'gag reflex' to 'gay lifestyles' is not anyway to judge morality.

Let me try to state this clearer. Naturally any infraction against society carries it's penalty whether the offender is Christian or not.
Now before God, if we as Christians confess our sins, those sins are forgiven although they may carry societal's punishment.
The Romans ch. 1 passage was dealing with sins before God that were done proudly v.22.
I never brought up 'criminalizing homosexuality' although before God it is a sin as well a host of other sins. Forgiveness and freedom is found in Christ Jesus free for the taking, so why not? Well, because people love their sin too much to confess it to God.
