Soooo, we got back from Christmas/grocery shopping a little but ago. It was an unpleasant reminder about why I despise shopping in December.

Ah December. We always go shopping late at night in December. It's the only time we can get out of the store alive.

Spending the afternoon helping to cut up and package elk meat. Grateful that my family will be fed off it for a while...but...nah, I'll leave it at just grateful.
Those judgmental deer just went that one step too far...

So, a question for one and all: If you knew a guy (like me) who has a dairy allergy (like I have) but who, against all logic, drained half a carton of eggnog (like I may or may not have done) and then a bit later complained of a sinus headache (like I might or might not have gotten...) what would you think of such a person?

But IT WAS GOOOOOOOD! :D

I could understand the desire but that wouldn't stop me from thinking you were a very silly feline! :p

I would think exactly what you just said Lynx! It's EGGNOG!!!! And it's totally worth it! Isn't there a pill that you can take that will help you break down lactose so that you can have dairy products? I'd lose it if I couldn't have eggnog

Awwww, my dear Lynx, I don't blame you. My son is about your age and also avoids dairy and yet drank eggnog as well. So what would I think of such a person? I think that person is entitled to enjoy eggnog. :D

As for the sinus headache, turmeric & honey tea with a few drops of coconut oil & sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon & ginger is an excellent remedy. The best I have ever found. :)

**fondly remembers eggnog of years past.

I remember going to a Christmas party at my pastor's house when I was a kid (they lived less than a block away). I was given some really good eggnog, and then I refilled my glass a bit later and THAT eggnog didn't quite taste the same. I later noticed that there were two different punch bowls of eggnog..............ooooops, I got my second glass from the wrong one.

I tried eggnog at a good friend's place back in the late 90s. I enjoyed the taste of the drink but the slimy texture of the egg going down my throat made me want to gag! So, yeah. I've probably had eggnog like twice in my whole life. It's not on my list of drink priorities. Also, eggnog's not a big thing at all, in Australia.

Was it slimey, or just thick? Proper eggnog is supposed to be somewhat thick in texture, but most definitely not slimey. Maybe it was homemade and just not made right.

It was slimey and yes, it was homemade (but my friend had made it many times before he made me one). Maybe I need to try proper eggnog then. Hmm...

Or maybe it was made by a cheap company. SOME companies (not mentioning any names) use lowfat milk in their eggnog. Lowfat milk is definitely slimy, and makes a slimy eggnog.

Ew. No, the eggnog was homemade. I saw him get all of the ingredients out of the fridge and pantry. I saw him make the eggnog. It was homemade.

I just put like a cup of milk, 2 raw eggs, and a little nutmeg, sugar and vanilla in the blender. Then I drink it. :p

The weird thing is that's the same recipe my friend used. Maybe he used differing amounts.

There's the problem....raw whole eggs are going to be slimey in texture and milk by itself will thin it out some but still leave it slimey.

Most eggnog recipes that I've used use only the egg yolks (if the whites are used they are beaten separately to stiffen them up), and most use either a blend of cream and milk, or just cream by itself. A lot of eggnog recipes call for making an egg custard (cooking the egg/milk mixture) then chilling and adding the cream.

How's Elk Meat? I mean I've never had Elk or Deer or Moose or anything of that nature...I have had Bison Burgers that's as close Elk as i've gotten
That sure will help with the grocery bill.

It couldn't possibly taste good since it isn't loaded with the artificial growth hormones, antibiotics, etc. that our palates have been trained to enjoy. :p

Actually from what I've experienced, wild game of any type can tend to taste pretty gamey unless the cook knows how to properly prepare the specific meat.
I really can't stand the gamey flavor in elk or deer, but if you don't hang it and age it, it's not as strong tasting. So my husband shot this one yesterday, and normally we would have cut it yesterday as well, but we had to wait til this afternoon. Anyway, we just had elk steaks for dinner, and picky as I am about meat, even I admit they were good.
Absolutely a huge help with the grocery bill...hamburger at $4/lb...ugh.

Glad we got the hard part done...I got a little loopy towards the end of the day and I think I have some packages of meat with cartoons drawn on them.

Oh, wow! I'm no longer seeing through a glass darkly. Cheers, OnceFallen. :D
