I have always been a bit envious that most everything in Asian culture seems so much more... artistic and beautiful, in a way. Don't get me wrong, EVERY culture has its merit (both pros and cons), but take Asian writing, for instance.

You could write the word "DIRT" in Japanese and it would look like a framed piece of artwork!! (I saw a joke once that NO ONE gets "water", "air", or "fire" tattooed on their body in English! :D)

Sometimes I do feel bad for being out of the loop though. I was in chat a while back (Bible Study Room) and an older man kept asking me questions about Korean food and culture. I kept trying to explain to him that I'm adopted and was not raised in that culture at all, but for some reason, he acted as if my words had no meaning and kept asking things such as, "What do you think of (this and that Korean food, etc.)"

I was thinking to myself, "Oh boy. I wish Shouryu was here to explain it to him..." (That's a bit of a running joke, seeing as there have been other times in chat when people have started asking me about "Koreanism" and I could just sit back and relax because Shour would start explaining my story to them... and in a way that is apparently clearer than what I can communicate for myself! :) I've pretty much deemed Shour as my official Asian Spokesperson. :D)

Love Azumanga Daioh (although the manga is a little better). For many years, I was well acquainted with Nyamo's American VA, Monica Rial. We hung out a lot, and spoke online through LiveJournal and FB quite a bit. I gave her a monkey for her birthday.
YOU KNOW MONICA RIAL?!

i don't trust people who eat raw things lol

My friend's wife is from Japan, she was the rare Christian

He works now for the Franklin Graham association in Asia

A while back someone finally put words to what I consider sushi, "around here we call it bait".

okay, i finished making a bullfrog!

IMG_7789_)1.jpg

the design is by Román Díaz

here is another look - i'm going to wetfold some of it to give the eyes and front legs better shape, so tomorrow it will look better than it does now.

IMG_7791.jpg

this design calls for turning the paper inside-out a number of times. the paper i got is very strong; i know from experience most ordinary paper would tear trying to do some of the steps.. so am quite pleased :)
plus it's very pretty!

also here are the pens -- i haven't used them yet!

Perhaps you are thinking of sashimi. It is by definition raw. Sushi could be raw or cooked, and it could be vegetarian or with meat or fish. I'm not certain how well vegetarian sushi would work as bait...

The only nerdiness I really have towards Japan are a few Japanese game shows (no, not that ones). I mean Japanese adaptations of American/British shows like "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" I learned a few more words that way, such as "seikai" (correct), "zannen" (too bad), "sen man yen" (10,000,000 yen) I also really like how during the high value questions, once "Final answer" is given, there's a dramatic pause of about a minute with the host Mino Monta being deadpan until he gives his verdict.

Ninja Warrior is one of the best japanese shows! It's basically an obstacle course they must complete its very ridiculous and long they win very little money they basically do it for the "honor" aspect of being named Ninja Warrior! its all over youtube highly recommend yall watch it :)

^^^ ARGH!!!!

I simply can't eat food that is too "recognizable." Eyeballs, faces, and suction cups on tentacles all qualify under my definition of "Food Staring Back at Me" that I can't eat.

My brother was in an Asian market and had the "delicacy" of eating a piece of an octopus's tentacle that is cut off while it's still alive... and he very vividly described the feeling of having it literally "crawl" down your throat. ACK.

Um... Pizza, anyone? Sure. Maybe if it's topped with live guppies...

*Notes mention of Japanese anime.*

I've seen some of the old school things like Akira and Fist of the North Star, but my favorites were Mermaid Forest and Battle Angel, hands down. Ghost in the Shell was... confusing...?

:D I probably wouldn't eat anything while it was still full fledged alive and moving.

I have a very squeamish girl friend (passes out if she sees blood) who projectile vomited at a wedding reception when the groom swallowed a live goldfish. Still can't live it down.

Steph?... Asian culture obsessed or AC "nerd"? :D jk.
........You said "ask anything", in another thread?

Being an Asian has it's perks...people automatically think I'm smart....that is, until I open my mouth and my words just sort of spray everywhere.

I guess I'm happy I've been given the talent to quickly kill that stereotype with everyone I meet.:(
