So, I have nobody to call "my date" for New Years. I know it shouldn't matter, but I guess its just a personal thing to me to have someone to share the incoming New Year with me. I've been invited to several parties this year and I don't want just anyone to go with me.
My question is for those of you who do attend NYE parties as a single Christian:
Do any of you feel the same about New Years? (Single members, that is.) Or, do you go to New Year parties alone and it doesn't bother you?

I am struggling with going alone or not at all. I want to go, especially since I don't want to celebrate alone. Ya know?

Is this about not having a "date," or more about feeling lonely?

If you go to a party, even if alone, there's potential to meet someone before the ball drops. If you're idle, those odds diminish.

Last year was the first New Year in a looooong time when I was not at a social function of any kind. I was pretty meh about it.

(Although, technically, I'm generally meh about most things.)

My whole thing with New Year was not so much being with someone as it was cooking food and sharing with others. Truthfully, I HAD to be that way, because almost every New Year that I shared with The Ex, she would invoke some sort of drama that would put a damper on the night in some shape or form. It was very frustrating, and in our last year, I almost didn't want to bother trying to involve myself in our group's big shindig.

The year she broke it off with me, my friends who had surrounded me for years stuck with me, and dragged me out a cabin in the mountains, where we once again cooked food, played games, and in general, had good times. They worked very hard to make sure that I didn't feel alone despite how raw the breakup still was. They were an incredible blessing.

Go, be among people. New Year's Eve isn't just a holiday for the attached...think about it: growing up, you must have had several NYEs that had you single (unless you started dating at like...six, or something). Enjoy the night for what it is; it can be whatever you make it, whether you spend it with family, with friends, or all by yourself.

yeah, i will agree that sometimes i may wish i was in different circumstances, but i try not to dwell on that.

instead, i focus on all the things i have to celebrate and be grateful. that helps me have a better attitude. and then i put my party dress on along with whatever i need to be in a festive mood. and then i enjoy the fact that i can flit around as the single girl, enjoying my freedom and having a fabulous time.

if you decide to have a great evening, i think you will. if you expect a miserable, lonely experience, you'll have that as well. : )

I've learned to enjoy things on my own. A lot of your life is wasted wishing you had someone else to do things with, or not doing things because you aren't dating someone. Best advice i can say is go live your life, have fun. Stop worrying. Get some friends and go.

I've always been single so... beats me. After 36 years, if I find a girl before Wednesday night it will be a miracle on the order of the dry bones coming to life.

But for me the new year has always been just another day. I never have cared much about a calendar's division of months and years. Easter I like, Christmas is special to me, my birthday is cool, but new year's eve is just a day that I go to work, come home, fiddle with music stuff, catch up on the forum and go to bed.

Thanks for the advice. I guess, as a I stated, its a personal thing to want to be with a date. I really am not the kind to go alone.

Yeah, I promise I won't go having expectations. That's where I am cautious :)

I know exactly how you feel,I will be watching the ball drop on new years eve,I wish my bf could come to my house then so I would be able to share new years eve with him when the ball drops, but that's ok,he will be with me on new years day,and I don't want him driving on new years eve,too many people that are going to parties, and a lot of drunk and crazy drivers out there on new years eve.

I understand. And wish you all the best. It's awesome that you have a man who is a best friend. :)

I think I gotcha. What I don't quite follow is if having a date for a party is more or less a carnal thing here, why would you not be apt to going with "just anyone?" (That's really none of my business, I suppose, so if you don't speak to that, no worries.)

In any case, I hope something pans out. :)

????

Am I missing the meaning to this???
Likewise.

The celebration for the New Year is a bit carnal as well. I just wanted to be on the formal side of things. No worries :)

Of course its great having someone special in your life but you don't need anyone to make you complete.

I'm going to worship services New Year's Eve at 10:30 pm and when I get home I'll be on this site sharing prayers and blessings with anyone and everyone who is on this site at that time.

Thus, I am complete!

I go to a large folk dance for New Years Eve where practically everyone is single(no date), so no I don't struggle with not having a date. Instead I look forward to dancing with lots of different young women.
