Is it okay for men to cry?

Look...Im just trying to bring some balance to this discussion... Men are supposed to be men and to act like men...yes gentle and kind..but not soft like a woman...not emotional but steady and more grounded. Some of what I read on this thread will really harm a man before other men...and like it or not..its still a mans world. These emotional type things are not welcome in the real world when your trying to assure others and be a leader. Jesus was gentle but not weak...He was strong but not harmful or destructive... He told folks to buck-up and have faith ..He didn't cry in the middle of the storm.

Perhaps you need the real love of God in your life, maybe then you will understand what crying is all about. God can make a heartless man cry. Maybe try recieve Gods divine love in your heart, and see if you can stop yourself crying.

Im not sure what I would do...But we have the biblical record of what Jesus did and there was no crying but a man bearing the burden of what He was called to do...If God had wanted to record His crying...im sure He would have had that written...He did not add that ...I wonder if He is just not emotional enough to see the need?

ummm, noo.. the bible tells us clearly that Jesus wept.. Wept=cried.. so despite Jesus being a strong real man, his tender side also cried..more than once for sure..

Just remembered one more Scripture regarding this:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

So the only wrong would be if a man cried in the time when he is not supposed to.
Women have a freedom to cry in expressing love, sadness and weakness to a far greater extent.
Not too bad being a weaker vessel

I think that's what I have been trying to say...but I guess I didn't act emotional enough about it to please some of the folks who seem to really like that kind of stuff?

Joseph wasn´t a whining man, but emotionally human with his loved ones.

Jacob, also, was "weak" to cry:

Gen 37:33 And he identified it and said, "It is my son's robe. A fierce animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces." Gen 37:34 Then Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days.

I think it was chiefly misunderstanding Mitspa. Many who responded YES to the op also added that by this they dont mean acting like a crybaby. There's been a lot of damage done to young men by teaching them to NEVER cry and blocking out and bottling out emotions at all times is very unhealthy.

I have no idea what thread you've been reading where men are being told to act like girls and babies, but it can't have been this one because there's not a single post in this thread that says anything even remotely close to "men should act like girls and babies". If that's what you've gotten out of the posts here, I would say there's an issue with your reading comprehension. I don't even mean that to put you down; I am honestly concerned about the way you've interpreted this thread.

As for what you've directed at gypsygirl...

I find, in so many cases, that when two people are disagreeing over something, the one in the wrong will often resort to insisting that the other person needs to "fix themselves" before trying to "fix" them. In this case, it's "practice what you preach before preaching to anyone else", but it boils down to the same thing. You haven't got a valid defense for your condescending and prideful attitude on this subject, and now you're trying to turn the tables.

Honestly. This thread started out good, I don't understand why you came in here, all riled up, and started nit-picking and acting like a jerk about women (and the married man who "dared" to post in the Single's Forum...what a silly argument, a lot of married people post in here).

Here's the thing- nobody really gives a hoot if YOU personally think crying makes men seem like "girls and babies". Really. We don't care. If you want to live your life stuffing every negative emotion and never shed a tear, no skin off our backs, do what you gotta do. But when you come in here and treat everyone like they're idiots for being accepting of displays of emotion....well, I don't think we're the ones who have got issues.

i don't know what kind of situation that could rival the "buck up" and "faith" required to be obedient to the cross.

and yet, amid that, Jesus was so completely pained by this that in the garden of gethsemenae he knew great anguish and was deeply troubled. so much so that He SWEATED DROPS OF BLOOD.

do you really think that someone as infallible as Jesus wouldn't have wept then as well? really?

i think you are speaking about things in a way that are about moderation vs. extreme. it would be awkward if a guy (or girl) cried all the time. but i find it no less distressing to be so worried, and concerned for that being seen as weakness.

i'm not giving you advice. you came here to participate in a thread, the same as me, and i am expressing my views, no differently than you. is that what you were doing? giving us advice? i didn't see it that way.

also, since you are calling into question my personal behavior, feel free to elucidate on your veiled suggestions. if you want to call me out on something, please do so plainly, rather through inference, as i prefer "criticism" in a direct manner, and i'm curious why you think you know me at all.

When I was pagan (more secular than now) I had a masculine issue: How come would I love God if He was a man?

It took me decades to understand it, yet I do not "love" Jesus the way a woman does and, within my culture and language, we (men) don´t say: "I love Jesus" but "I like Jesus"; because the word "LOVE" is more properly used to women instead of loved ones.

So I see similar limitations to the word "cry", when it is not compared to weeping or whining...

English/Saxon culture solely?

Maybe there is a reason the scriptures don't record the Lord Crying as He suffered?
