"Android is good" or "Android is bad" comes down to the user interface a lot of times, and that is the phone manufacturer's fault. I've seen some good interfaces (like the one on my Xperia Mini) and some really cheesy ones (like when my friends ignored my advice and got the cheapest phone out there... then asked ME for help using the stupid thing.) When manufacturers actually stop and think about how people are going to use the phone, and design an interface accordingly, Android can really shine.
By the way, did you see the last Spider Man movie, where he's fighting a vastly overpowered Electro? Did you see that phone he was using, with the expanding hotcorners? That was an Xperia Mini. World's smallest android phone. That one they did the interface right.
