But God found fault with the people and said: "The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.

Yep, the fault was not with the Law, it was with the people.

what did the people of the new covenant do?

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

the apostles did not teach or command sabbath keeping in the new testament (covenant) anywhere.
if it were required at all, we would see it taught in detail to gentiles in the letters. yet the sabbath is conspicuously absent as commanded for christians.

as i'm sure you've heard before (your doctrine is clear, and undoubtedly you won't change your mind - which is not my intention) - that all historians and scholars agree that early christians gathered on the first day of the week.

On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where we were gathered together.

anyways, have a great day today:)

Whoa, so the example is that we should meet on Sunday night and continue until Monday morning?

Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

You apparently have never heard Gerald Waterhouse speak. After about four hours, he was just getting warmed up.

He, like Paul, was a traveling evangelist. He spoke on any and every day of the week. That did nothing to change the fact that the Sabbath was still in effect.

Please show me where Paul ever taught that the day of worship was changed.

as i'm sure you've heard before (your doctrine is clear, and undoubtedly you won't change your mind - which is not my intention) - that all historians and scholars agree that early christians gathered on the first day of the week.

And who instituted this change?

James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of our Fathers, 88th ed., pp. 89...

"But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify."

Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed., p. 174...

"Question: Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?

"Answer: Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her-she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority."

John Laux, A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies (1 936), vol. 1, P. 51...

"Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the New Law, that He Himself has explicitly substituted the Sunday for the Sabbath. But this theory is now entirely abandoned. It is now commonly held that God simply gave His Church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as Holy Days. The Church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days."

Daniel Ferres, ed., Manual of Christian Doctrine (1916), p.67...

"Question: How prove you that the Church hath power to command feasts and holy days?

"Answer. By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of, and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same Church.'
James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore (1877-1921), in a signed letter...

"Is Saturday the seventh day according to the Bible and the Ten Commandments? I answer yes. Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the seventh day -Saturday - for Sunday, the first day? I answer yes . Did Christ change the day'? I answer no!

"Faithfully yours, J. Card. Gibbons"

The Catholic Mirror, official publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893...

"The Catholic Church, . . . by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday."

Catholic Virginian Oct. 3, 1947, p. 9, art. "To Tell You the Truth."...

"For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the[Roman Catholic] church outside the Bible."

Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Converts Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957), p. 50.

"Question: Which is the Sabbath day?

"Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

"Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

"Answer. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."

Martin J. Scott, Things Catholics Are Asked About (1927),p. 136...

"Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday .... Now the Church ... instituted, by God's authority, Sunday as the day of worship. This same Church, by the same divine authority, taught the doctrine of Purgatory long before the Bible was made. We have, therefore, the same authority for Purgatory as we have for Sunday."

Peter R. Kraemer, Catholic Church Extension Society (1975),Chicago, Illinois...

"Regarding the change from the observance of the Jewish Sabbath to the Christian Sunday, I wish to draw your attention to the facts:

"1) That Protestants, who accept the Bible as the only rule of faith and religion, should by all means go back to the observance of the Sabbath. The fact that they do not, but on the contrary observe the Sunday, stultifies them in the eyes of every thinking man.

"2) We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith. Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us. We say, this Church, instituted by Christ to teach and guide man through life, has the right to change the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament and hence, we accept her change of the Sabbath to Sunday. We frankly say, yes, the Church made this change, made this law, as she made many other laws, for instance, the Friday abstinence, the unmarried priesthood, the laws concerning mixed marriages, the regulation of Catholic marriages and a thousand other laws.

"It is always somewhat laughable, to see the Protestant churches, in pulpit and legislation, demand the observance of Sunday, of which there is nothing in their Bible."

T. Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18,1884...

"I have repeatedly offered $1,000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says, 'Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says: 'No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.' And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church."

How about some quotes from protestants?

Methodists...

Harris Franklin Rall, Christian Advocate, July 2, 1942, p.26...

"Take the matter of Sunday. There are indications in the New Testament as to how the church came to keep the first day of the week as its day of worship, but there is no passage telling Christians to keep that day, or to transfer the Jewish Sabbath to that day."

John Wesley, The Works of the Rev. John Wesley, A.M., John Emory, ed. (New York: Eaton & Mains), Sermon 25,vol. 1, p. 221...

"But, the moral law contained in the ten commandments, and enforced by the prophets, he [Christ] did not take away. It was not the design of his coming to revoke any part of this. This is a law which never can be broken .... Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind, and in all ages; as not depending either on time or place, or any other circumstances liable to change, but on the nature of God and the nature of man, and their unchangeable relation to each other."

Baptists...

Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, a paper read before a New York ministers' conference, Nov. 13, 1893, reported in New York Examiner , Nov.16, 1893...

"There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not Sunday. It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week .... Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament absolutely not.

"To me it seems unaccountable that Jesus, during three years' intercourse with His disciples, often conversing with them upon the Sabbath question . . . never alluded to any transference of the day; also, that during forty days of His resurrection life, no such thing was intimated.

"Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history . . . . But what a pity it comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of the sun god, adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism!"

William Owen Carver, The Lord's Day in Our Day , p. 49...

"There was never any formal or authoritative change from the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath to the Christian first-day observance."

Presbyterian...

T. C. Blake, D.D., Theology Condensed, pp.474, 475...

"The Sabbath is a part of the decalogue - the Ten Commandments. This alone forever settles the question as to the perpetuity of the institution . . . . Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand . . . . The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath."

I can C&P much more but what one really ought to do is study the subject for them himself. Don't believe me or any other man, believe your Bible.

i'll pass. it's evident you believe christians are bound by mosaic law.
scripture commands me to take my leave now:)

Yep, I think it is absolutely wrong to...

1) Have other gods before God.

2) To make idols and bow to them.

3) To take the Holy name of God in vain.

4) To break God's Sabbath.

5) To dishonor my parents (whether my mother or father or my Heavenly Father).

6) To murder

7) To commit adultery

8) To steal

9) To lie

10) To lust after things that are not mine.

Yep, I think EVERYONE should obey these. Which of these do you think we ought to break?

Hmmm, all I can say is your understanding of the Sabbath is lacking...

Exo 35:1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Exo 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Exo 35:3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
Exo 35:4 And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying,
Exo 35:5 Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass,

The Sabbath is so important to God that He commands us not to make a fire to do any work on the Sabbath. Notice the context is that of building the Tabernacle. God did not want work done on the Tabernacle on the Sabbath day.
So you do kindle a fire in your home on the Sabbath? You must be progressive Sabbath keeper.
As far as obstinate, when it comes to compromising with the Word of God I am as adamant as flint.
Good then tell me of how you have tasted of the grace of God to save your soul. Tell me how the Holy Spirit has given you full assurance of eternal life in Christ. When you are finished tell me how keeping the Sabbath make one more saved than one who keeps another day. How does keeping the Sabbath add to grace?

For the cause of Christ
Roger

Ever notice that everyone has a different way of "keeping" the 4th?

Do you think that resting in Christ is breaking the 4th commandment?

How did CHRIST act, in also words, according to the New Covenant, regarding the 4th commandment?

Believe in that, rather than supporting others in their 'self' interpretation, how it should be.

HE said and it is written for our witnessing, that;

"My FATHER is always working and I too must work."

Are we working the same on Sunday churches gatherings?

Or are we enjoying 'tradition' worships, decided by men, like the 'Pharisees' again?

Isn't this showing the carnal/flesh and it's 'passion' and 'desires' form of worship in the churches today, like the 'Pharisees' in the Temple that day?

JESUS of Nazareth defeated such 'tradition' of men and highlighted the violation of men, who violate the actual commandment requirement of GOD of the 'Old'.

That is why, JESUS gave the New Covenant, in order for Christians, to believe in HIS teachings/words and be fruitful and follow the same, until HE return.

'bout time somebody thought to ask that question here............

And you think that Christ is so rigid that He wants people to freeze on the Sabbath?

Exo 35:1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Exo 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Exo 35:3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

So these are the words the Eternal has commanded, that is unless you think that this scripture is not true. In that case, which scriptures are true and which are not?

I showed that this verse applies to the construction of the Tabernacle in which many artisans were employed to do the work on it.

But then after all, it doesn't suit your purpose to read it in context.

Please explain to me how Col 2:16-17 says the Sabbath is done away or cancelled or whatever. It says they are a shadow or type of something. Let's examine the verses in question, I suspect that you may not be reading them correctly...

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Now what this says is this...

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Notice that the parenthetical phrase "in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come;" modifies the sentence/ The rules of grammar tell us a parenthetical thought can be removed from a sentence and the sentence will still make sense. OI, let's do just that...

Let no man therefore judge you but the body is of Christ.

Now, notice the word is is italicized? Means it was not in the original. So the original sentence is...

Let no man therefore judge you but the body of Christ.

Now what is no man but the body of Christ suppose to be judging one in?

in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come;

This passage in no way cancels Laws concerning food (the Grk here is brosis and means food, not just meat), drink, Holydays, New Moons or Sabbaths.

They are a shadow of things that are yet to come and this was written twenty some years AFTER the crucifixion.

look, have you considered the context of this passage at all?

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Paul is telling you that you are set free from the law in Christ. there is no more condemnation in Him, and our indebtedness to the ordinances has been nailed to the cross. the gospel is literally "good news" -- not bad news, not the same news. good news.

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

Paul literally says "
do not let anyone judge you" -- not "let only other believers judge you" -- and he has just said in the previous paragraph that the burden of the law is cancelled - what makes you think he in the next breath says so don't let anyone judge you for carefully following a law that was never given to Gentiles? hasn't he been arguing to the believers that the Judaizers who sought to enslave the Gentiles to Moses' law were wrong?

20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

if Paul is actually arguing, as you say, that we must keep the covenant that was done away with, and that our "freedom in Christ" consists of every ordinance that no Jew could keep, raised to the n[SUP]th[/SUP] degree, why in the world does he in the very next sentence say the "
touch not, taste not, handle not" crowd is human-centered will worship with only a false wisdom and humility, and having no value in actual spiritual restraint?

don't assume i don't honor any Sabbath. that's between me and my God - it is not for you.
the scriptures in the NT plainly speak of grace and freedom, and sacrifice that stems from the heart, not from a written code of ordinances.
i pray Jah would free you, and open your eyes, that you come to know the liberty Christ won for you!

Since we are set free from the Law in Christ, do you feel the need to refrain from murdering people? How about stealing?

It is always about the fourth Commandment.

What Does Colossians 2:14 Really Say?

It is of interest to note that the expression "the handwriting of requirements" is a Greek legal term that signifies the penalty which a lawbreaker had to pay--through Jesus the penalty was wiped out ("the handwriting of requirements"), not the law! "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them" (Heb 10:16).

Even Protestant commentators realize this. Notice what Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible states about Colossians 2:14:

Whatever was in force against us is taken out of the way. He has obtained for us a legal discharge from the hand-writing of ordinances, which was against us (v. 14), which may be understood,

1. Of that obligation to punishment in which consists the guilt of sin. The curse of the law is the hand-writing against us, like the hand-writing on Belshazzar's wall. Cursed is every one who continues not in every thing. This was a hand-writing which was against us, and contrary to us; for it threatened our eternal ruin. This was removed when he redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, Gal 3:13. (from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern Edition, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1991 by Hendrickson Publishers, Inc.).

Some will argue that you still cannot keep the ten commandments (for "all have sinned"), even if they are all mentioned as being in effect after the crucifixion. Does this mean one should not try?

Furthermore, let's look at another translation:

14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross (Colossians 2:14, NASB)

The handwriting of requirements (often also called the hand-writing of ordinances) or certificate of debt was wiped away and nailed to the cross.

Which requirements were wiped out?

Please understand that the expression "the handwriting of requirements" (cheirógrafon toís dógmasin) is a Greek legal expression that signifies the penalty which a lawbreaker had to pay--it does not signify the laws that are to be obeyed--only the penalty. It is only through the acceptance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that the penalty was wiped out ("the handwriting of requirements"). But only the penalty, not the law! - Dr. Robert Thiel

It is always about the fourth Commandment.

what kind of "new heart" did He give you? one that murders?
in what way did the Holy Spirit regenerate your mind? does He now tempt you to sin? did Christ introduce covetousness into your thinking or take it away?

it's frankly shocking that you even ask such questions.

one that has nothing to do with Judaizers, and gives and obeys not by compulsion but from a grateful and sincere conscience, out of love, not fear.

you have no idea what i do on saturdays, and i think it's best that it stays that way - because He said not to offer my gift "to be seen by men" and His apostle quite clearly taught not to allow anyone whose mind is stuck on carnal ordinance to judge me over it.

????non-sequitor. You think that people who obey the fourth Commandment are Judaizers? How about people that obey the seventh Commandment? Are they Judaizers?

As far as what you do on the Sabbath, that is strictly between you and God. Now when it comes to teaching others to disobey God, then I really feel the responsibility to put forth the truth on the matter.

And you think that Christ is so rigid that He wants people to freeze on the Sabbath?

Why is your day of rest, worship and reflection better than mine?

Is keeping the Sabbath going to get you preferred treatment at the resurrection?

If one is of Jewish descent and keeps the Sabbath and other Jewish ordnances that is one thing but silly Gentiles trying to be spiritual by imitating the Jews is comical.

How are you saved?

For the cause of Christ

First of all, it is not my rest day or worship day.

Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

It is God's day.

Not keeping the Sabbath is a transgression of the Law...

1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mat 13:40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.
Mat 13:41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, - NKJV

Hmmm, I am now called silly for obeying the fourth Commandment?

Christ said...

Mat 19:17 So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Believe me, I have been a fool for lesser things.

As far as what you do on the Sabbath, that is strictly between you and God. Now when it comes to teaching others to disobey God, then I really feel the responsibility to put forth the truth on the matter.

so maybe you shouldn't twist up the scripture? or twist up what others have said? who has taught that we must disobey God?

not long ago here you said that this:

actually means believers ought to judge each other over food and drink, feasts, new moons and sabbaths ..??

seems quite the opposite of "putting forth the truth" if you ask me.

PM me for your bill, if you feel like you need to "tithe."

thanks.

As far as how are we saved, we are saved by grace through faith and that not our own.

How are we lost?

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Willful disobedience.
