My mother taught me medical science - "If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way."

I remember that show. As I recall it was full of more stereotypes than a comic strip page, but it was sometimes funny.

Never to go into any purse but your own. If someone asks you to get something out of their purse hand it to them as it is theirs not yours. Stay out of it.....

Also taught me not to smoke or drink too much as that is what she did and died at the age of 42. I found her dead at the age of 8. The lesson I learned from this allowed me to raise my daughter alive and well. Melisa will turn 35 in April we have had a great mother daughter relationship and by not smoking and drinking in excess I have made it to 60 so far and counting....Yep sometimes you can also learn what not to do from your mom.

I am also learning how to ask for forgiveness so as not to resent my mom for having been warned by a doctor to stop her unhealthful ways or she would not raise her daughter but chose to continue and fulfill the predicted warning she was given. I do also have a bad habit I need to work on which is eating too much and loosing some weight.....Praying for both forgiveness and victory in my bad area. Just recently became aware that I have resented her for choosing partying and smoking over life so working through this issue. I loved her as an 8 year old child, but don't think she was a very good mom as looking back at her life as an adult....Like I said she is helping me learn how to forgive.

Wow, most of these words of wisdom I also taught to my three children as they were growing up. I guess I'm an ok Mom after all.

Here's one that wasn't mentioned:
"Life isn't always fair in your favor.. but be happy for the other person when it's in favor for them."

I didn't want my kids to be selfish or greedy. So when there was only one cookie left, I would give it to whomever I chose at random. The other two would have to learn to be happy for the person who received it because next time it might be their turn to receive it.

Not only did that eliminate the "Life's not fair!" attitude and the squabbling over the last cookie, it taught them to be happy for one another's accomplishments and blessings. They are all three extremely close to this day.

\ :D / Praise the Lord for His wisdom:

"Love does not envy... Love does not seek its own... Love rejoices in the truth... Love is kind."

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
And they'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levis

And each night begins a new day
And if you don't understand him and he don't die young
You'll probably just ride away

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms, clear mountain mornings
Little warm puppies and children, girls of the night
And them that don't know him won't like him and them that do

Sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him
Do things to make you think he's right

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys

EEEEKKK! That song freaks me out!! It seems to convey that "Cowboy" is synonymous with "Loser". :p

Coincidentally last Thursday when we gathered for Praise Team practice, uncle Fred showed up singing a somewhat different song...

"Mamas, don't let your cowboys grow up to be babies."

I kid you not.

She taught me a few things wrong, especially colors:

"Steven! Get your little tan fanny over here this instant!"

Though I am capable of tanning, I'm pretty white.....umm....especially there.

TMI? sorry

"Fanny B White." Kind of sounds like an Indian name.

My Grand Momma taught me anatomy: "Chew your food. Your stomach does not have teeth." She used to say this all the time.

A few years ago, my Grandpa accidentally swallowed one of his crowns. I told him that if Grandma was still with us, we could tell her that yes, his stomach now had teeth...

We all got a momma, whether biological, adopted, alive or not. And usually Momma has some good advice she learned along the way that she has taught us. What has your momma taught you?

After I locked my key in the car and had to get a locksmith (on a freeway exit, and he was eating breakfast at the local diner, and I had to wait for him to finish...) my momma taught me to get a copy and keep it in my wallet. I can't count the number of times this has saved my locked-out self.
My mama taught me to give one to her so she can bring it to me if I needed it. :)
