How long can a finger pretend it's not part of a body?
It can't.
A finger might do it's own thing for awhile, but it can't detach itself. It's either a finger, or maybe it's just pretending to be for a little while... like a glove.

Water Baptism and physical Communion do not save and maintain.

It says that water symbolizes the baptism which saves us.
I'll take the Baptism of Christ over your Baptism of John. I followed Christ into the water BECAUSE I was saved, not in order to be saved.

I had never heard this before, but it makes a lot of sense.

My only hesitation is that those who believe in a pre-trib rapture will most likely not just run out of oil, but go apostate when they find themselves in the middle of an event they thought God would save them from. And as apostates they would no longer be virgins. I would think the answer lies in the middle, that those who keep themselves filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit will be likewise filled with the oil of prophetic truth, and therefor be prepared for the darkness preceding the Bridegroom's coming.

Oil is rebirth by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Those in Mt 7:21-23 had oil (gifts but no graces) but no rebirth,
as those in Lk 8:13 had no root of rebirth.

Why 10 virgins and why spit into half, 5 wise and 5 foolish?

What then is the midnight cry?

The second coming of Christ at the end of time.

Many theologians like to take doctrine from unclear passages, like parables and prophecy, and then interpret the clear passages through that lense.

I firmly believe that the unclear passages must always be viewed through the lense of the clear passages.

That's why, even though I have enjoyed the interpretations given,
I am still leaning more to the meaning of the story being less specific and more general.
Rather than this parable defining how the Holy Spirit operates in a person's life, or defining which type of Christians get raptured vs those Christians left behind, or describing the literal way that Christ will Return,
I think the purpose of the parable was more general,
and more against universalism, rather than about clarifying other doctrines.
It is a calling to be ready for His Coming, and a warning to those who are not ready.

I also view the parable as an "ongoing process", rather than from a futurist understanding. Being ready for His Coming is relevant to every generation, rather than only relevant to the last generation,
and the implications of the parable extend to every generation that has existed from the time it was spoken until the Last Day comes, rather than just to those alive at His Coming.

Basicly, I am skeptical of reading things into parables and prophecies that aren't intended,
and of forming a belief due to a parablic or prophetic phrase, and then interpreting the rest of Scripture based on that belief.

Correct. The oil in the temple sacrifices indicate the same as the story about the ten virgins. Instruction of measurements were given with all offerings and sacrifices.

It is not possible for a saved person to become unsaved, because it is impossible for a saved person to maintain their own salvation.

I guarantee that you are convicted by that verse. Why? Because all are guilty of shaming the cross.
You seem to lack understanding of Salvation itself, which is why you would bring up such a verse.

There is no possible reclaiming of Salvation. It is, or it isn't.
Repentance cannot renew salvation... It can only grant it, and grant it once alone.

I believe the oil here is in reference to the fruit we has believers are suppose to produce, as we are called to live out God's will in our lives and bring others to Him. As well as we are to prepare for eternal life by building on the foundation that the Lord has given us, by producing those good fruit and spiritual works.
Half the virgins squandered what they were given and did not live or obey the faith, and therefore was unprepared to be accepted into the kingdom, so they were shut out for their disobedience to prepare for Him.
