Hello everyone, I am trying to become more spiritually perfect, but the one area that I am greatly struggling with are controlling my thoughts. Scripture tells us that even thinking about lust, hatred, envying, anger, or complaining, is a sin. But I am especially struggling with complaining thoughts whenever I am given an order from my parents or at work. Whenever I have these thoughts, I try to get rid of them by saying/thinking, "in the name of the LORD, I cast out these thoughts". While saying that, I sometimes take a rubber band around my wrist and pull it back to sting my wrist. If that fails, If I don't have a rubber band, I resort to punching or slapping myself multiple times before the thoughts leave.

Scripture tells us that it is a sin to have bad thoughts and that there are many people in hell for bad thoughts. I read in some of these testimonies that people who have complaining thoughts get disemboweled by demons or have their heads attacked by serpents while their stomach is filled with serpents and their body is filled with maggots/bugs. In another testimony, people who have bad thoughts have their heads sawed off by demons.

Please, I don't want to end up in hell for bad thoughts. Thank you.

Read about how the brain works. Study what the different chemicals that your brain produces are and what their function is. Don't over spiritualize like so many often do. There is a biological component to you and how you have trained your brain to function.... and the neural highways you have built over time. Sometimes thinking is just a matter of bad habits vs good habits.

Well, I was with you up until the rubber band and smacking yourself. You're on the right track in thinking and speaking 'Jesus is Lord', a la 1 Cor 12:13. Speaking, in addition to invoking the spiritual power of the spoken word, requires more brain activity than just thinking, and therefore occupies a larger portion of your mind. Putting and keeping (immersing) your mind on God long-term is important too, I come here a lot just for that. And as Sirk said, there can be physical reasons for such things. But I'm not sure smacking yourself is an effective treatment for them.

There's a difference between having bad thoughts, and entertaining them. The punishments are for those who entertain and give place to them. Fight the good fight, and persevere, and you'll be ok.

Well we first gotta remember that our minds no matter how right we are with God will never, ever be completely perfect. There will be unwanted, unwelcomed thoughts, emotions, feelings so on so forth. That is until we fully obtain salvation in heaven with God. And as long as you are trying to better your mind (truly repentant) God forgives.

The first and most important thing we need to do in order of trying to take control of our thoughts is getting right with God. From there we have to continually read the word, study it and grow walking with God for the rest of our earthly lives. The more you study and immerse yourself into the word the more your mind consumes it. The more wise we become in God's word the more knowledge we will have in order to avoid sinful things.

Try remembering bible verses, chapters, passages by heart. That way when something comes to mind you can start saying what you've remembered from the bible in your mind. I suggest reading about the full armour of God in Ephesians 6.

This could either be a spiritual attack, or medical. It could be a mixture of both. What you need to do is constantly take this to God, and constantly read/study/meditate on the bible. Then from there you can decide whether or not if this has anything to do with a medical related problem.

Sometimes you have to think NOT in terms of.....don't think this or don't do that, but..........I WILL think this or do that instead. The bible tell us to think about that which is good, lovely, pure and praiseworthy etc as well as to BE transformed by the renewing of your mind. The Christian walk is an "action" oriented endeavor based on gratitude for the sacrifice Jesus made so that you can commune with a Holy and righteous God.
