And while we're at it, let's bring back the era where people look different from one another, not like the cookie-cutter "model types" you see today. If you check out old re-run shows from the 70's you'll notice people were of all body types, all types of hair styles, nobody cared if their clothes matched or if their face was symmetrical, brand name shoes were not important, etc. Now it seems everyone is trying to look like a skinny, flawless celebrity! News Flash: skinny jeans are atrocious and bluish-white teeth are just scary!!!

JesusLives, how about when we were teenagers and a big group of us would pile into the car and go to the drive-in movies? Or if we were low on funds, we'd just drive around all night singing our heads off to the latest hits on the radio. :D ("All night" meaning we had to be home by our curfew of 10pm. LOL)

Man, kids don't know what they're missing, not cruising the hamburger stands.

We had a circuit of three or four that we hit every Friday night.

No, that was my brother. No, I'm not kidding. He has OCD bad, so I know what it looks like. I'm not OCD, I just know what works and wish it would come back.

Another retro thing I would like is the gramophone. Some music experts say that the best rendition of the 80's and 90's music is only on vinyl records. I would love to own a gramophone with the records of my favourite bands like Def Leppard, Jon Bon Jovi, Louis Armstrong, Bruce Springsteen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. :)
Actually, why wait for it to come back? Modern music is still made on vinyl records because some audiophiles insist it still sounds better. And they still make record players. In fact there's one record player in Japan that uses a laser beam instead of a needle (to avoid wearing out a record with repeated playing.) It costs something like $13,500. But it would be cheaper just to get five vinyl copies of an album and switch to a new one when the old one wears out.

Lynx,

This is a good reason to take up sewing as a hobby :D. I mentioned in another thread that I have something like 10 different patterns for shorts--one of the reasons I collected different styles is because one of those patterns has instructions for the perfect cargo pocket. I just want to be able to put them on a different style of shorts but haven't had the time to put it all together yet.

If I ever get around to it I plan to put cargo pockets on the front and back, and each larger pocket will also have a mini-pocket. Each pocket will have a zipper, because without zippers I have a tendency to lose things. I also plan to add one waterproof pocket to protect my camera for a day at the amusement park (water rides!!!) if I'm every so lucky to go again. Of course, I'll have to make sure it doesn't turn out looking like I'm carrying a full round of hunting gear (think of how much fun going through airline security would be) but the best thing about sewing is that you can make what you want with added details of your choice. And, if you don't like the fabric color choices available (50 shades of gray, literally), you can always buy white or light-colored fabric and dye it yourself.

I miss the quality of days gone by. Nothing is made like it used to be. My Grandpa has a washer and dryer set in that avocado green color that was so popular eons ago, but they still run just fine. My first set of furniture was handed down from my parents and was older than I am, but you can't find quality like that in stores anymore, and of course, everything costs at least twice as much.

I also miss the restaurant chain Bill Knapps (known before its demise as "Heaven's Gate" because of its popularity with the senior crowd.) It had THE BEST cheeseburgers and chocolate cake ever and on your birthday, you got a free cake.

I've never found any place that could come close as a rival in either of these two categories ever and I wish I could.
Sewing: Alas, that is not one of my strong suits. (Get it? Suit? Sewing? ...Sorry, I'll hush now.) But if there's a song you'd love to sing at church I'll trade you a soundtrack for a pair of pants with about a dozen pockets on it. 34X30 please, and make most of the pockets small.

Quality: For real, all the "furniture" you can find these days is made of pressboard, which is basically sawdust and glue. Spit on it and it dissolves. And every can opener in Wal-Mart will go bad in six months, max. My Swing-A-Way can opener from many years ago is still going strong. They still make real stuff, but you have to get it online (Wal-Mart doesn't carry it - selling good stuff is against their religion) and it's expensive.

Food: Actually there are still good places to eat, but they aren't chains. Look for the small hole-in-the-wall diners. Some are terrible, but some are heaven on earth. That's the one downside of traveling, it's hard to find a good place to eat because all the good ones are places only the locals know about. If you're driving through Tennessee one morning and you see a tiny diner with a really large number of pickup trucks in the parking lot, stop there. There's a reason all those people are there. ;)

That's a fairly reliable turntable. It's a direct-drive, so no pitch veer from belt wear, and it has no motor noise like some direct-drives have. It also has an S tone arm (which is critical for good sound reproduction.) You'll want to replace the stylus with something a bit better though.

Don't worry, you don't even need a screwdriver to swap stylus heads. There's a sliding collar that holds the stylus head on the tone arm. Kind of like an air hose connection, pull the ring back to disconnect.

And replacement needles.

Cargo pants. Oh man, I wish, I wish, I wish cargo pants would come back. I so loved having a thousand pockets. A pocket for everything. Now I have to keep my keys, pen and knife all in the same pocket, and my wallet, change and phone all together in the other pocket.
I refuse to believe that cargo pants ever went "out". I still wear them, and Kim's right... sometimes you gotta make your own. I'll slap pockets made from camo fabric onto a pair of jeans because I think it looks cool, and it's better to go with the "This fabric does not match and I do not care" look, than the "This shade of denim is close but not quite the same" look.

But coming from someone who loathes carrying a purse or bag of any kind... cargo pants are da bomb. (That's another thing that should come back... saying "da bomb".)

Careful JesusLives, you're showing your age :D

Actually a friend of mine was still on a party line in the late 80's but he was in a more rural area of Colorado.
