The Cult of “Selfy”
The current fad of taking a ‘selfy’ is said to be taking ones’ own photo at an event for ‘memories’. Actually it is nothing of the sort but rather a ritual of the old cult of narcissism and those who participate in it continually show their brain dead herd mentality. People seem to believe that the ‘selfy’ is a recent trend made popular by celebrities, this is not true and it actually goes back to Victorian times in Europe and USA (approximately 1885 – 1905).
The trend back then was if a child died in a family, then a family ‘portrait’ was to be done before the child was buried. The portraits for the most part were to compel the siblings of the deceased to be photographed with their dead brother/sister. Even worse the deceased were made to look ‘alive’ by means of wooden supports on their back so as to make them ‘stand up’ – much in the way cardboard cut outs are.
One child may have been deceased, but you can see in the eyes of the siblings that something had died in them too because they had been forced to participate in this – it was the death of their innocence. For the parents who did the forcing it was their dignity and for the photographers who took money for this, it was their soul.
From World War 2 there are plenty of ‘selfies’ from the Axis forces who murdered civilians and then proceeded to be photographed posing with the people they just murdered, much in the way ‘big game’ hunters pose for photos with the animals they just killed. And as film/photography technology started to be more available to the public, the advent of ‘snuff’ porn came to be.
Now on to this day…. We have serial killer Daniela Poggiali who has killed 38 people, (Though it’s suspected she killed close to 100) residents in a nursing home and proceeded to take ‘selfies’ with them. There is also Blaze Binder who also worked in a nursing home who took ‘selfies’ with those who were dead or dying, she describes herself as a ‘soul stealer’ (Binder boasted she is a Satanist). In both cases I suspect they did not act on their own solely. And now we have Maxwell Morton who killed a classmate and then proceeded to take a ‘selfy’ and post it on Snapchat. Also add in what Islamic State does, we see that none of these things are to do with reminiscing but are souvenirs for sociopaths, psychopaths and other narcissists.
We see it in everyday occurrence, example if someone is hit by a car and 10 people happen to be present then usually 3 people will call an ambulance and police, 3 people will stand by expecting someone else to do something about it, 1 person will ring a friend with “Like wow dude guess what I just saw! Gnarly dude!” …. and the other 3 will be taking ‘selfies’.
And it’s not just limited to the average halfwit; during the funeral of Nelson Mandela we had the spectacle of national leaders taking ‘selfies’. Nothing to do with honour, respect and memories but rather a souvenir of arrogance. Purely physical souvenirs of purely physical events as far as the ‘photographers’ are concerned. And quite correct too as sociopaths have no soul, psychopaths have no logic and narcissists love pictures of themselves.
You may disagree with everything I’ve written, that’s your choice. You may think that self worship is the way to go and you may be wishing…. “Like wow man! I really am dying in get in a viral selfy!” Be careful what you wish for…. The next Maxwell Morton might just have a spot for you on Snapchat.
