Not tried crunchbang.

If you get a smartphone make sure it runs cynanogen mod, but I've not idea on your specs.

Linux Mint Cinnamon is pretty user friendly. I like MATE because it's nothing more than Gnome2, but KDE is shaping up as well. All user preference.

Linux Mint Debian is fine, I've ran it before, only crashed once due to incomplete upgrade.

Puppy Linux doesn't have any documentation for bulk network installs, you could use CloneZilla Server though (takes a bit to setup, I never did it): Clonezilla - Sever Edition

i love N-360.. I used avast and Comodo firewall together, and honestly I don't know which one slowed me down. My computer's lightning fast and it slowed down so much it just barely did anything at all.

Microsoft's own Security Essentials is good for Windows 7. For Win8 they have an integrated Windows Defender... that is usually turned OFF by default, so they won't be sued by payware antivirus companies. >.> Many computer makers throw in a trial version of Norton or McAffee, y'know, and they would get upset if Windows Defender interfered.

When you buy a computer that has Win8 on it, first turn off and uninstall the payware junk. Then google "how to turn on windows defender." It's already installed on your Win8 computer, you just have to turn it on.

I don't use Windows 8 either, Win XP and Win7 were the best in terms of stability and common sense. However, the review page I linked to covers more than just Windows 8.

Speaking of Microsoft Security Essentials, it catches about 1% of viruses worldwide...

So anything but MSE is a start.

yeah i've heard MSE isn't real good at catching viruses. I have 3 anti-spyware/ malware programs on my computer, plus ccleaner and N-360..

I go commando. :p (Meaning no anti-virus software...) A lot of people tout Ccleaner among their AV software, but it does not clean malware.

but it does an awesome job removing junk that gets left over after uninstalling something..

ok here's a silly question. when i scan with SuperAntiSpyware, it shows me what's installed on my computer and sometimes gives me an option to uninstall some programs. It shows me alot of HP certificates that show as "invalid" "uncertified" or "unsigned" and there's a thing next to them that shows how many people voted it a good or bad program.

my question is since this are unsigned, invalid, and uncertified, how do I remove them from my computer? SHOULD I remove them?

help!!! lol..

Well HP certificates and unsigned drivers aren't neccessarily "malware" or "viruses". It's just that they are unsigned (not approved) but will still work in your system as a driver or firmware for some of your hardware.

To be honest, I think SuperAntiSpyware is a farce product. Does it ask you to upgrade (pay) to remove any of the items? If so uninstall it!

Why are you doing this anyway? Are you having problems with your PC? When did you last reformat and install a fresh copy of windows? It is sometimes much better to just reformat windows and start-a-fresh rather than trying to get rid of bugs and what not which can all just slow your PC down with more and more rubbish.

Another thing to try is a tiny little program called HiJackThis. Maybe you've heard of it?

It's simple download, run and it will show you lots of things installed that you can remove. But, you can save a logfile and then upload it to HijackThis Logfileauswertung

From there, it will show you what is good and what is bad. Based on what people have said about them in the past.

Some are nasty BHO's (Browser Helper Objects) that even if you uninstall from control panel WONT actually remove and will reinstall themself again.

Download HiJackThis from Major Geeks Download HijackThis - MajorGeeks

This is what a scan will look like (only takes seconds)

Then save it as a text file and copy/paste the contents of it into HijackThis Logfileauswertung

Anything with a green tick is okay.
Anything with a red X is bad and probably should be removed.

That's pretty much the best antimalware tool you can find that is free and in depth.

Unsigned or uncertified does not mean the program has a problem or is wrong. When programs were first distributed, you just trusted the provider of the program. Virus makers then started faking some programs, as if they came from a source when they did not. To combat this software providers could buy a certificate or method of checking the program is authentic and not a copy. The report you are referring to is telling you which programs have such a certificate and which do not. It only means exactly that, not there is anything wrong with the programs.

If you are worried about a program, google its name and see what it does. If it is part of a bigger process provided by a big supplier it is probably fine.

The problem with removing unsigned software is the system they are part of could fail, so it is always best to leave alone unless you are sure it is an actual problem.

Rudimental, I don't want to remove them. I was just wondering if I COULD.. :) Nope, SuperAntiSpyware never asks me to pay, OR upgrade. I like it but I notice it doesn't catch PUP's, whereas MalwareBytes always does. I NEVER have a problem with my computer. I bought it in 2012, and I still use Windows 7. I will look into the HijackThis program. Thanks for recommending it. :)

thanks, Peter..I'm going to leave them alone for now. I just wondered why Hewlett-Packard had so many unsigned and invalid certificates..lol..

Why does Chrome's memory cache fill up so quickly? Is there anything I can do to increase the memory without involving hardware?

the OP abandoned this thread nearly a month ago. I'm sure someone else here can answer your question, though. :) I use Opera so i know nothing about Chrome..
