My mother was saved but I could not convince her that we could NOT lose salvation. If we could keep it on our own merits, it would then become works. But now that doesn't matter too much. She's in His presence and knows for sure this is a truth.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves,
it is the gift of God;
9not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
I can give testimony that we can 'try' to walk away from God but He will use a crushing chastisement to bring us back. And yes, even to the point of death if necessary and hold us there until we repent and submit. No loving parent would allow their child to play in traffic because the child wanted it. The parent would go to extremes to make sure that child stayed safe because they know what's best for them. This IS love.
They talk about an unspeakable joy. I felt it the day that the Holy Spirit unveiled the truth of eternal salvation to me. No matter what I did, NO ONE could take me from God's hand once I was His. With that comes the understanding that it is NOT a license to sin.
