It's what they grew up with and were used to. It's a shame we insist on dumbing down for the sake of ease.

I Agree! When people in my grandparents generation graduated High School, the had the equivalent of what we now call an AA or AS degree from community college.

Now many H.S. grads can barely read a newspaper. NOT GOOD! But, who can change it?

I barely graduated with a 5th reading average myself, for the most part I taught myself using the word of God and a dictionary, I still have bad habits and certain things I will never get (or do) because I dont care to apply myself beyond getting a point across, even then I am pretty bad at articulating myself is why I prefer to copy paste just the scriptures.

The only book (for the most part) I have read since leaving school was the scriptures, with the exception of a short period of time I allowed myself other books to see if they would be helpful, but when I read too many in such a short period of times I experienced confusion, and decided against the same.

Its true though that even the forefathers of this nation surpassed the marjority of us in just how literate they were, I love to hear them speak though, its so much more purer then our ways of speech these days.

Ours sounds more perverse or something.

The words Jesus spoke were given by the Father, not a webmaster that often turns out to be behind a cult. The men that wrote his words were inspired of God-breathed words that cannot fail.

So you think all believers who own a website are a part of a cult? Is there anyone in the body of Christ that a believer can trust? The point is that Jesus spoke words that were not his own. So this means we can do the same thing.

I prefer to quote scriptures whenever needed to support a statement I write, though surely not needed this moment, yet.

Whenever I quote a Christian article they HAVE Scripture within them. So I do not see the difference in you quoting Scripture versus somebody else.

If you quote something other than scripture I always either click on your link or search the phrase. Whatever comes up, I investigate before replying. I'll often do a search on the webmaster's name, or chase down clues in their pages. Not saying you use their resources, but often I've found quotes here that originated from a site that is based off another site that is based on JW's Watchtower or maybe SDA, RCC, Mormon, and others.

When I quote source links I sometimes will include that I am not affliated with that website and or what all of what that person believes. Truth is truth no matter what. For we both can agree on the truth that grass is green. But that does not mean you hold to all views that I do just because you agree with that particular truth with me. See where I am coming from? Oh, and yes. I do occasionally try and make time to look up their statement of faith. Granted, I do not always do so. But that still does not change a truth of an article I quoted. For example: The RCC believes in the Trinity just like real Bible believing Christians. But does that mean I agree with the RCC in their teachings? No. Do I agree with the JW's and SDA's? No. I do not willingly set out to quote from their websites. Therein lies the difference.

people are into writing like the world thinks of writing. I don't think of someone changing truth by what they write, as that's not logical, nor reasonable. Many people want to sort out false from truth, but don't know where to start.

I don't claim to be inspired of God like Matthew or John was when they wrote scripture. I do believe that by study of the Bible and prayer, and trusting that the Holy Spirit still gives me the right words to say or write is valid for me. If the Spirit gives it, while someone else rejects it, they can't possibly be listening to the same Spirit.

This is dangerous in what you said here. You are believing that you are infallible and that cannot be wrong. The only true tests we have is in asking God, comparing Scripture with Scripture, looking at the context, and in obeying the teachings of Jesus Christ. Only God is perfect and only God will be able to reveal the truth to us according to His will and timing.

That applies to me. How do I know which is right? Not the credentials of a webmaster, but by the word of God.

I can say the same to you when you go to listen to a Pastor at a church or when you listen to a preacher on the radio. Do you think you are the only believer in the universe? It sure sounds like it. Especially when you think no Christian owns a website whereby I cannot quote from them. And again, they use the Word of God.... just like you. How do I know you are not the one who is not false? I can make the same claim against you just as you say about all believers who own websites.

So of course what he might give me So of course my "paint" could definitely change the message of what someone else has written of their own thoughts, or those of someone else they have probably never met, not can they truly find out their background, as with most of us here. So we have to mostly go by content, how it checks out with the Bible.

If that was the case, then why are you talking with other believers here? They could all be members of a cult for all we know. Did you ever agree with someone to only later discover that they were not who they said they were? So I disagree with what you said here. You are trying to control information and the way people communicate and make rules that God has not specifically laid down.

a button.

However, so could
everyone else.
So in an attempt
to make sure your
deepest darkest
secrets were read
first, strange new
words were introduced
such as lol, C u ltr,
Op, thx the like of
which had never
been seen before.

reading give yourself
a medal).

Then some people
discovered they could
sum up all of their
deepest darkest
secrets with one
symbol such as
.

Additionally words
such as eh, aargh,
Zzzzz, sigh started
to become very
popular, whereas
words such as thee,
thy and thine become
lost.

Mankind pondered over
this and started to
wonder what language
was spoken before Babel
but no one could remember.
So they lol and time
moved on with words
and posts getting shorter
and shorter, until
one day the only
sound that could
be heard was the
occasional grunt

Let me be short..this thread is negative. And there are many who write there own thoughts that meet peoples needs in answering them biblically. Yes, people have short attention spans, so those people don't have to benefit from the long posts. If you haven't the time why worry about the ones who do? I would give scripture to show the issue as a problem here but I will lose you...............

And I'm with Blain on the no paragraph thing. If there is a block of text, no matter how sincerely written, I don't have the eyes to get through it, between the bifocals and the cataracts.

Sadly, I realized the other day, because of the need for white space in posts in forums, I have lost the ability to write an academically credible paragraph. Sigh! The internet is winning!

I always provide a source link if I use another person's work. I also do not see how truth changes between what I say versus what another believer says. Is the truth all of a sudden different because someone else said it? Besides, Jesus did the same thing. He spoke really long at the Sermon on the Mount and they were not His own words; For Jesus was speaking everything that His Father told Him to say. God's Word itself is written by men but yet inspired by another author.



Most of the time, people do not check out links unless it is something they are really interested in. I have many times have gotten responses on things that I quoted in an article. So I know this form of posting works. People do not like it because they are into thinking of writing like the world thinks of writing. If you do not provide your own original content then it is not worthy of them to read. As if truth changes if it is provided by another. Are we truly interested in truth? Or are we out to impress each other with how we write nice original (but yet not so original) posts. Does throwing a new coat of paint accross a post really change what is written? I say thee nay.

First, understand, I know people don't get this, until it's explained, but it's an important distinction.

You're kind enough to provide a source link? That's rather like, "Yeah, I didn't tell my neighbor that I borrowed her car, but I refilled the gas."

The writer (and neighbor) may well not mind you taking what they own, but it's only right to ask first. Most the time folks get really touchy on borrowing something without asking. Lots of people don't want you to borrow something important to them, even if you do ask. Same deal with copyrighted material. If it's public domain, no problem. (All of Wiki is public domain. All of Google Books -- when the whole book is given -- is public domain.) If it's not, it belongs to someone. Unless it belongs to you, it's not yours to use without asking.

The hard part is this includes written material, photos, illustrations, songs, videos, or anything else online, in print, or on any surface whatsoever. (This post belongs to me and Christian Chat. My post. CC's space. If I wrote a poem on a cliff, the poem is mine. The cliff isn't, making another issue of defacement, but that's a different subject.)

I get most people won't check out links. Oh, well. It's still illegal (and more important, covered under don't steal), to copy and paste wholesale. I tend to explain why I'm including the link, if need be. (I've already had people click a link they thought was going to be one thing, but it was completely different. That was the fun in that link.)

Also, one or two sentences isn't violating the copyright. Posting paragraphs, or even whittling down a large article to what you want to show, are both serious no-nos.

And, I really do get it. I used to do it all the time before I learned, and I would never have learned if I wasn't plagiarized by scam artists and people who knew the rules to use my article. It really becomes important to the person when someone misuses their work. Considering I'm trying to get my novel published and published online is published, even if someone uses what I wrote in a kind way, it's still not kind. I lose my first rights.

But I don't see how the cults, trolls and the confused will be able to get their point across. It takes a little scripture, but a lot of blather, to twist Bible truth into a pretzel.

Before I was a Christian and for the first couple of years I was one, I excelled at lying. I could do it even now. (Twist any truth like a pretzel.) I was the kid you wanted your kids to hang with... except, you really didn't. I just won't do that anymore. We all have odd mad/bad skills.
