Neither directly nor indirectly. 'Mom' has always felt like a more fitting reference.

I think that in our culture calling your mother 'woman' is very disrespectful.

Is it possible that in calling Mary 'woman', he was reminding her that even she was not authorized to command God.

i've read commentaries suggesting the Lord Jesus was sort of reminding her
what He did was at the Father's command, not hers.

does that sound plausible?

Ah, someone's thinking.
do you think it was the beginning of making all things new?

through Moses, God turned water to blood.
the Lord Jesus turned it into wine.

like starting to undo the curse?

From a mom's perspective, if one of my sons began calling me "woman", I probably would wonder what cult he had just joined.

I suppose I could respond by calling him "man child".

Jesus did not say this in any way disrespectfully..... Note the scripture:
John 19:26-27 (KJV) [SUP]26 [/SUP]When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! [SUP]27 [/SUP]Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Here Jesus was more concerned about His mother than He was Himself.

Jesus was without sin. That pretty much settles it.
