i'm not sure how we can blame eve's sin for the fact that women have a reproductive cycle.

while most women don't enjoy the unpleasant or annoying details of having menstrual periods, it is a necessary part of the gift that God gave us in child-bearing. i consider the miracle of conception and birth as God's perfect design of how we would fulfill His command to "be fruitful and multiply" in genesis 1:28 and generally speaking, to bring forth children, which God refers to as a blessing.

however, we know in genesis 3:16 that the fallout from sin is (among many things) includes the labor pain associated with childbirth.

To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.

while others may have differing opinions, that is mine.

Just a note for future female topics please start these types of threads in the Ladies Forum. I am sure it makes the guys here a little uncomfortable.

I believe every part of this topic is special and a bit exciting because us women have been entrusted with a wonderful gift of bearing children and that should be considered so precious as many do not have the opportunity to bear children.

Oh feathers, there is no reason to be intimidated by a period.

Good question, though! I could get graphic, but there are plenty of embarrassing reproductive situations for men as well.

Perhaps Augustine was right and unfortunate details of life were already present before the Fall. Perhaps things like periods and...other things are gross because our sinful minds perceive them as gross when they are not. I don't know, I wasn't there when Adam and Eve bit the fruit.

I do know though that Providence allowed it to happen. Without that event, it's likely none of us would have been born. The menstrual cycle is a part of that process. Praise be to God.

I apologize for making the assumption. Please forgive me. Yes, I do know it is a gift that I cherish even when I can't move because of cramps.

I assume the pain associated with it is a part of the fall. Probably a component of pain in childbirth, but that's just me spitballing.

Oh, no reason to apologize. I appreciate you considered the feelings of men to begin with, hahaha.

Do other mammals have periods? Or is it something only humans have to put up with?

(I'm not saying this to make a point, I really don't know. I've never noticed our dog having a period though. But now I'm curious if cows and chimps and horses and orangutans have them.)

They may not have a period, but all I do know is that they do go into heat.

We, in our furvor to shroud God in "religion" have made things like minstration taboo and somehow not a part of God's glorious plan. Just look at the ostrazation and shame the Jewish religion put women through, just for being women... the absolute glory and completion of men... but they refused to accept that beauty.

i believe that there are some simian species, such as chimps, that do. but primarily, most of the animals you mentioned have an estrus cycle and go "into heat" instead.

as such, the endometrium is reabsorbed, instead of being shed, such as what happens during a period. : )

I would say the cramps and pain in childbirth are the result of the fall.

I know dogs have a type of period. I remember a dog we had as a child that was leaving bloody spots all over the house because she came into heat at 5 months. My parents were pretty ignorant about that stuff. I had horses and the female frequently leaks urine during their heat cycle.

Other mammals do have them at least that's what someone I used to know who tried and failed to breed her German Shepards told me.

hey now, let's not attack and diminish anyone for the questions they ask. i think it's important not to judge or diminish anyone for their curiosity or interest in learning more, regardless of how silly a question may be to you. everyone has a different perspective, knowledge base, and influences--and for all you know, the OP could have been told this by someone, and she wants to find out whether it's true or not.

not that it matters, but i believe reading somewhere this OP is only 17. let's not discourage our young sisters and brothers. and please, let's not shame those who are curious and desire knowledge--learning of the bible is part of the pursuit of godliness--regardless of their age.

for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 timothy 4:8

what you are describing is a function of the estrus cycle (i.e. "being in heat") and being sexually receptive/fertile. this is mistakenly often compared to a "period" because of the blood, but the purposes are very different.

women, on the other hand have a menstrual cycle for the purpose of shedding the endometrium (uterine lining). this happens at the end of the "fertile" cycle about every month following ovulation when an egg is released by an ovary and isn't fertilized.

the difference is that most species do not shed that lining, but rather re-absorb it.

Women have cramps during a menstrual cycle because the uterus is removing the lining off the uterine wall. If a woman is really physically fit, then she may not have cramps. However, it's likely she will have some sort of discomfort no matter what. That discomfort may (or may not) be related to cramps. Most of the discomfort is a combination of muscle cramps and hormones. The cycle of hormones a woman goes through in a two week time frame is pretty amazing. Then, of course, there endometriosis, poly cystic ovarian syndrome, and various other issues that can cause problems during a woman's cycle.

I hope you're joking. If you're worried about the word Period or menstrual cycle don't be it's natural. Even my 9 year old son understands a woman has a period.

I have heard that woman have these pains because of the fall of Eve, so I don't see anything shameful about her question.

I wish men would experience a period. I really do, I think it would stop insensitive remarks, example, you're having a bad day and I've been asked, are you on your period? II've responded, no but if you don't leave you're gonna have summer teeth, some will be missing.
