US police kill more than two people a day, report suggests - BBC News

Data collected by the Washington Post newspaper suggests that the number of people shot by US police is twice as high as official figures claim

Among the report's other findings:

  • Black people were killed at three times the rate of whites or other minorities when adjusted for local population
  • Most were armed, but one in six was unarmed or carried a toy weapon
  • 365 men and 20 women were killed
  • Most (118) were aged 25-34, while 94 were 35-44. Eight were children younger than 18
  • In all three 2015 cases in which charges were subsequently filed against police officers, videos had emerged showing officers shooting a suspect during or after a chase on foot.

And what is your point? People can throw out statistics all day long but if you have never worked in Law Enforcement you really have no clue what you are talking about. Yes there are dirty cops that need to be fired or even prosecuted for what they have done, but I can pretty much guarantee that the majority aren't acting in a criminal behavior.

Not nearly as worried about being shot by a Police Office as I am about the criminals roaming the streets.

Some perspective:

Excerpt from Article:

If Americans misbehaved on Jan. 15, 2013, as they typically do, then there were 30 gun-related murders and 162 people wounded by firearms in the country, based on the most recent figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On top of that, another 53 people kill themselves with a firearm each day, according to the CDC.
Breaking it down further, three people are killed by a gun per hour and almost seven people are shot every 60 minutes.

Found here:

[h=3]Murders, Shootings And Gun Sales Per Day: An...[/h]
And, given that this is reported by the Huffington folks, I suspect we can believe the numbers as they are no friends of the Law Enforcement personnel of this country.

I guess for me it doesn't have to do with the minorities or anything, it has to do with the fact a human soul has to deal with taking another life TWO TIMES A DAY. I just....wow....

Or, you could add up all the peoples ISIS has slaughtered in the past year and divide by 365..........that should give one pause.....

It is sad that we need Law Enforcement to take a life to protect citizens. The fact is if we didn't have law enforcement lives would be taken by the criminals and probably more so.

this is the uk bro.
take you point up with the reporter, of this topic. the statistics are there for a reason, again i did not have anything to do with them. you say criminal behaviour, and this being a christian web site, who put you criminal law in place, and i can guarantee it was man and not god, given if history account is correct.(after 1600ad) strange how americans think lol

uk dont have guns, to protect citizens, 90% of the time, i am getting the feel, you think every country, is the same as the usa, in it approch to law and order. shoot first explain later, is more the gist of how uk see and read and understand this report, given the facts. etc

So this is a UK bashing the US thread? lol. You should really look at your own stats as far as violence is concerned.

I would love for nothing more than violence to disappear, but unfortunately this isn't going to happen. The UK did away with guns and yet they still have violent crimes with knives, clubs etc... A criminal will find what they need to do their evil.

my mum taught me this saying, sticks and stones, may break our bones, but names will never hurt you. lol
the stats for crime will alway be there, yet the talking point, differ in a political correctness worlds, ie to have an opinion these days, about any given subject, i have about 99% chance to offend someone, the joy of having an opinion. lol
so with a 1% chance of keeping everone happy, why should we comment on any subject. lol

That's nothing. Blacks murdered 43 people (mostly other blacks) just last month in Baltimore alone: Baltimore faces deadliest month in more than 40 years - Baltimore Sun

If the police try to stop them; however, the residents riot and look to use the government to destroy the police. So, the police are simply returning to an older style of policing in which they react to things that happen rather than seek to aggressively prevent them from happening. This means the gangsters in the inner-cities can return to murdering other gangsters to secure that corner turf to sling drugs from like they did in the 80's and early 90's.

And it's going nationwide: The New Nationwide Crime Wave - WSJ

If you live in a major metropolitan inner-city area; adjust your behavior accordingly, make sure you have supplies on hand, secure your premises, and lock and load just in case. Good luck.

Well, IF this TRULY IS how the peoples of the UK interpret the information in the article, then they have a very skewed view of reality, and have not done much research into the subject prior to forming their opinion.

Point of fact: Folks in the UK should research exactly how many Police/civilian interactions occur on a daily basis. How many times a day Police question, detain, arrest, chase, seek individuals. Thousands of such interactions occur on a daily basis. Given that, when one determines what percentage of those thousands of interactions equals to the two who are fatally shot, it is AN EXTREME VIEW to say that the Police in the US have a "shoot first, explain later" mentality/attitude towards dealing with the public.

He spends the majority of his time searching for anything negative about the US to post. Has been doing it for some time. And even given that his intentions are questionable, some times the information is useful. Occasionally, when challenged, he will find one or two wee comments of criminal activity in the UK to post, but that is NOT the norm.

i understand what you are pointing at, however, how can us talking about this problem, do anything to solve this.
again i want nothing to do with race or hate. i point at stats, because the mps or senetors will read a report about policing in different areas etc. and all they look at stats or what i call a pie chart. so is government out of touch with life on the streets, when the police force are trying to do there jobs. so if government is out of touch, then how can we bring more awareness or to the three sides ie government, police, an usa citizens( ie crooks or crime) to stop shooting at each other.
i hear that song in the disney film in my head, when i see an elephant fly,lol ie hope for the next generation to see the folly of passed generations etc

and to think all your posts, project positive reactions. or would you also moan about being give quail to eat.( Numbers 11: The People Complain)

and for the record, opinions vary, unfound opinion is call slander. and at 64 years of age, you would expect someone to know the difference. at a guess, being wrong is a new concept to some, because you just proved it.

actually our law is based on english common law, so it came from the UK.....Our law system is highly based off off English law....so before you try to separate the UK and US on matters of law, remember we got ours from you.

These all may be true, but you can't just look at some statistics and come up with a view, you have to look at all statistics. Do you know how many crimes are actually solved and get through the criminal justice system? Much lower than the number of crimes actually committed. The police are trained on how to use firearms and most follow their training.

this is the uk, not usa, is this a point, that your missing in your patriot stand.
or do you have something to say to the news reporter, feel free to email the bbc, about free press and how dare them take to the usa people like that, if you want. at a guess they would laugh at slander , that some call free speech. yet you bring no clue or way to help or fix the given problem. yet the topic brings awareness. funny you only see one mans posts, as being anti usa, and to think love is all around a christian web site. again you prove this wrong again.
