A Study of the Scriptures: All the New Testament Commands & Teachings.
This is a Bible study so as to discuss all the New Testament Commands and Teachings in Scripture.
Warning: Please Read Thread Rules Below Before Posting.
Rule #1. This is not a debate thread. This is a study thread. If you disagree with an interpretation or view expressed here, you can say how you disagree in one or two sentences, but you must provide a link to a new thread (or one that was previously created in the past) to produce your reasons as to not interrupt the purpose of this study.
Rule #2. I will put forth the Commands and Teachings (Taken directly from Scripture) and nobody else. Please no random mention of God's Commands or a general discussion of God's Commands within the Bible. If you disagree with how the Commands are put forth, state your reasons briefly in one or two sentences and provide a link to another thread to discuss such a thing. The purpose of this study is to stay on track with discussing the Commands and Teachings of the Bible. This is not a thread about the debate of the Bible or about how you disagree with someone. This is a Bible Study thread which is supposed to help enrichen your beliefs about the New Testament Commands and Teachings in God's Word. Also, there is absolutely no discussion about the Old Testament Commands or teachings here. This is strictly New Covenant Commands and Teachings for the believer today (That can be found in the New Testament).
Rule #3. Stay on point with only the Commands being currently discussed. No past Command type discussions that are really old. Please try and discuss only the current Commands under discussion. Granted, I will allow a few comments after a group of Commands has just passed, but such discussion should not continue on and on so as to interupt the current Command discussion or study. If you want to add to a past discussion on God's Commands (that has been over for a long while), start another thread. The purpose is to stay on point with each of the group sets of Commands I will put forth. This would also include refraining from telling a Command (or Commands) that is still yet future for us to discuss, too. If you feel a Command has been missed, please PM me and I will be happy to discuss it with you (and possibly add it). Thank you.
The Last Old Testament Prophet's Commandments (While under the OT):
(Which Lines up with New Testament Commandments):
1. Repent / Confess sins.
First mentioned by John the Baptist in the New Testament.
(Old Testament prophet, but later repeated by Jesus, John, and Paul).
(Repent / Confess your sins: Matthew 3:1, 6).
2. Repent / Turn From your Wicked Ways.
First mentioned by John the Baptist in the New Testament.
(Old Testament prophet, but later repeated by Jesus and Paul).
Words that sound similar.
(a) Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make your paths straight.
(Matthew 3:8) (Mark 1:3-4).
3. Bring forth fruits worthy of Repentance.
(i.e. Do those type of works for God that are worthy of your repentance.)
Jesus's Preparational New Testament Commandments (While Under the OT):
1. You shall not tempt the Lord your God (Matthew 4:7)
2. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve (Matthew 4:10)
3. Repent (Matthew 4:17).
4. Follow Me (Matthew 4:19).
5. Rejoice when you are persecuted (Matthew 5:12).
6. Let your Light shine before men (Matthew 5:16).
7. Your righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees or you will not enter the Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:20).
8. You shall not kill (Matthew 5:21)
9. Do not hate your brother without a cause or you will be danger of Judgment
(Matthew 5:22).
10. Do not call your brother an "Idiot" or a "Moron" (Raca) or you will be in danger of being brought before the council of God's people (Matthew 5:22).
11. Do not call your brother a "fool" or "reprobate" or you will be in danger of Hell fire.
(Matthew 5:22).
12. Settle an agreement with your adversary quickly (or make peace with them swiftly) otherwise they could take you to court and have you imprisoned. (Matthew 5:25).
13. You shall not commit adultery. (Matthew 5:27).
14. You shall not look upon a woman in lust; For by doing so, you are committing adultery with her in your heart (Matthew 5:28).
15. If your right eye or right hand offends you (Because you are looking upon a woman lustfully), it would be better if you completely remove your eye and your hand (metaphorically speaking) instead of having one's entire body being cast into the Lake of Fire.
(Matthew 5:29-30).
16. Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committes adultery.
(Matthew 5:32).
17. Do not swear or make promises by anything. Do not swear by Heaven, Earth, Jerusalem, or your head, etc. Let your yes be yes and let your no be no.(Matthew 5:34-37).
18. Resist not evil (Matthew 5:39).
19. If any hits you on the one cheek, turn to him the other cheek, too (Matthew 5:39).
20. If any man sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also (Matthew 5:40).
21. If any man compells you to walk with him one mile, walk with him for two miles (Matthew 5:41).
22. Give to them that asks of you (Matthew 5:42).
23. Do not turn away him that wants to borrow from you (Matthew 5:42).
24. Love your enemies. (Matthew 5:44).
25. Bless them that curse you. (Matthew 5:44).
26. Do good to them that hate you. (Matthew 5:44).
27. Pray for them that despitefully use you and for those who persecute you.(Matthew 5:44).
28. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48).
29. Do not do give for the cause of God so as to be seen by others, otherwise you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven. (Matthew 6:1). Neither announce your giving before others like the hypocrites do who seek the glory of men (Matthew 6:2).
30. When you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing
Make it a habit to give to God in secret and He will reward you openly (Matthew 6:3-4).
31. When you pray, do not do so publically so as to be seen by others (Matthew 6:5).
32. When you pray, shut your door and pray privately (Matthew 6:6).
33. When you pray, do not use vain repetitions like the heathen does; For they think they will be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7).
34. After this manner therefore pray: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13).
35. If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: (Matthew 6:14).
36. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 6:15).
37. Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. (Matthew 6:16).
38. But when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face so that you appear not unto men to fast, but unto your Father which is in secret; For your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly. (Matthew 6:17-18)
39. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matthew 6:19).
40. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: (Matthew 6:20). For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
41. You cannot serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24).
42. Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. (Matthew 6:25). Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
43.Seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33).
44. Take therefore no thought for the tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. (Matthew 6:34). Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
45. Do not judge unless you have been judged yourself (Matthew 7:1).
46. Do not judge hypocritically. Take the beam out of your own eyes then you will see clearly to take the beam out of your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:5).
47. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, otherwise they will trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (Matthew 7:6).
48. Ask, and it shall be given you; (Matthew 7:7).
49. Seek, and you shall find; (Matthew 7:7).
50. Knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matthew 7:7).
Jesus's Preparational New Testament Teachings (While under the OT):
1. Speak God's Word (And live spiritually);
For man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God that proceeeds out of his mouth (Matthew 4:4) (Deuteronomy 8:3).
Be-Attitudes:
(Matthew 5:3-9):
2. Be Poor in Spirit. (Be-Attitude #1).
3. Be Sorrowful in a Godly way (Be-Attitude #2).
4. Be Kind (Be-Attitude #3).
5. Be Hungry and Thirsty for Righteousness (Be-Attitude #4).
6. Be Merciful (Be-Attitude #5).
7. Be Pure in heart (Be-Attitude #6).
8. Be a Peace Maker (Be-Attitude #7).
9. Do the will of the Father.
For he that does the will of the Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. For not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) (Matthew 12:50).
10. Hear and obey the words of Jesus.
For hearing and obeying the words of Jesus brings wisdom and security. For Jesus said, "whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:" (Matthew 7:24).
