Steven Universe: thoughts

Ok, so I'm trying to be accountable here and get your opinions on this. For a long time I have had a sort of secret love for the cartoon Steven Universe, and I wanna get your idea on what I should do about that.

Lemme back up and give you some info. Why I love this show:

The mom squad. Steven, who is a half human/half gem of an alien race that basically are human rocks. He has 3 guardians who care for him deeply, each acting like a mother to him and teaching him lessons about life and how to deal with the passing of his mother Rose Quartz. He is the only one of his kind since technically gems don't give birth to other gems, but rather grow them like geodes.

The animations are gorgeous. And one thing I love: THEY SING!!

Also: body types. They love all types, and love give each one their own distinct personalities.


Where it gets bad. Gender issues.

Early in the series it is established that Steven has a love interest named Connie. But as a half gem/half human the relationship gets....weird. Gems have the ability to fuse with one another to become a different type of rock, and therefore a more powerful human form. When this happens the two personalities also become one. All gems are technically female (except Steven) so at first it's demonstrated as a simple power up. Then this happens

Meet Stevonnie. Yup, a girl and boy fuse. So this is sort of a "hey we're making reference to transgenders/hermaphrodites." That got me worried.

Here is the real issue: Garnet.

She is the unofficial leader of the Crystal Gems. She is strong, silent, and has 3 eyeballs (which is strange) and the ability to see the future. One thing that was soon discovered is that she is a fusion. But not the platonic power-up fusion. Oh no.

Meet Ruby and Sapphire. That is right. They are the first canonically gay gems in the Steven Universe cartoon. They fuse together to make Garnet, but in a romantic fashion. Now the entire group that is a fan of the show refers to them as "gay space mom rocks." It has opened the floodgates in the show for there to be "secret crushes" of gems with other gems.

Like Pearl here and Steven's mother, Rose quarts.

I guess the main question is: as a Christian what should be my stance here? Should I stop watching it because of their stance on LGBT stuff? Maybe I should...

You do what you feel is right in your heart. Not what people online say. They may be right. They maybe wrong. Who knows?

But, I've never watched this show and care not to. I think most cartoons on Cartoon Network are violent, and not for young kids. I prefer Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Old school cartoons.

That post got more and more twisted as it went on, not the post itself but the progression of the cartoon. I don't like it because it could be possibly pushing an agenda or whatever. But as said above, you need to go according to your conviction. If you are unable to discern, probably best to err on the side of caution, or perhaps you having to ask is enough? That's up to you.

Yeah that's my main thought. It seems like all the cartoons are trying to continually push the homosexual idea, even in the behind the scenes work. I have a hope to work maybe in cartooning and sometimes I look at the concept art that they do. A lot of the times they make homosexual references that the animation studios end up rejecting, but they continually try to slide them in. Even with Disney stuff.

I legitimately do not like Adventure Time as far as their magic/occult stance. It's be one thing if it was slight like MLP but they got it ALLLL up in yer face. Same with Gravity Falls.

THANK GOD! I've been praying and praying to find another Christian Steven Universe fan!
I've been praying to God about this for a long while
What I'm thinking is that, as long as we ignore it when they do something, er.... Suggestive I guess and hold each other accountable in our faith in God, making sure that our FAITH is first, then I think it should be fine.
Dont take my word for it though, pray to God. Ask in Jesus' Name to make the right decision for you about this.
There are plenty of Christians I know that are strong in fairy and feel okay with looking past certain things, so I think as long as we put God first it shouldn't be a problem.
Why don't we PM each other about this?

Nothing to fear Gems are gender less they just prefer female apperances and pronouns their physical bodies are also a illusion

Well, still, they're pretty much both female, so it's still very bad
However, it's not very in your face and what my youth group leader and dad said is that if your beliefs aren't being affected and you talk to God about it, it should be fine to watch
if it's any consolation, Ruby and Sapphire are sisters in my Fanfictions

The way they look, talk, and act. And also you know the writers are trying to make some kind of "statement". I really hope they don't push it any further. They probably won't, there's gotta be somebody who's in control of censorship that sees that it's a bad thing. Let's all pray that they don't get away with it and that it won't ruin the show.

umm, what? Ignore it when they do something suggestive? That's like trying to ignore someone having sex on the couch in front of you, or trying to ignore a robbery that you're a witness to.. You can't truly ignore it because you know it's there, and you know it's wrong to watch it going on. Doesn't matter how strong your faith is, and my question is, if these characters came to life in your living room and were doing something suggestive, could you REALLY ignore it and pretend it's okay and it's not happening? Somehow I think the answer to that is NO. :/ jmo

Yeah that's what I've been thinking.... And especially now, talking about that gem named Pearl who had a crush on Steven's mom? It has basically been confirmed that she was like obsessive in love with Rose. But apparently not in a way that goes in a negative/creepy way, though it could easily do so. :/
