That's NOT in the Bible! "Hate the sin; love the sinner"

And the origin of the phrase goes to - St. Augustine and Gandhi - it’s a bookend tie! The phrase itself as we know it came directly from Gandhi’s 1929 autobiography. However, in Augustine’s letter 211, written around 424, is the phrase,

... Hating the sin while claiming to love the sinner gives us an opportunity to place more emphasis on the shortcomings of others rather than ourselves. In Matthew 7, Jesus told us to judge not, lest we should be judged. Concerning sin, he told us not to fuss about the speck of sawdust in our brother or sister’s eye when we’re blinded by a 2x4 plank in our own eye. Or, in John 8, a group of people point out to Jesus a woman who had been caught in adultery and remind him that the law teaches she should be stoned to death, and they want his response, and he says, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” (John 8:7).

In other words, it is quite inappropriate for us to go around pointing out the faults, shortcomings, failures, and weaknesses of others when we still have so many of our own. “Hate the sin; love the sinner” fails to meet this test because it focuses not on our own sin, but on that of someone else. The Scriptures clearly teach that “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:32), but the caution for Christians is to remember that this applies to us on the inside as well as those we perceive to be on the outside, and perhaps we who live in stained-glass houses should think twice before we start throwing stones.

https://carm.org/does-god-hate-anyone

God is love (1 John 4:8), but God also punishes the sinner and hates all who do iniquity. God is not one sided. He is not simply an infinitely loving God. He is also infinitely just. He must deal with sin. He must punish the sinner.
In the truth of God's word, we find that the Lord has provided one way by which we may be saved. That single way is through Jesus' sacrifice. For all who trust in Him, salvation will come. But to those who turn away, God's wrath abides upon them: "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him," (John 3:36).
Does God hate anyone?

Does God hate anyone? The answer is yes.

  • Psalm 5:5, "The boastful shall not stand before Thine eyes; Thou dost hate all who do iniquity,"
  • Psalm 11:5, "The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and the one who loves violence His soul hates."
  • Lev. 20:23, "Moreover, you shall not follow the customs of the nation which I shall drive out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I have abhorred them."
  • Prov. 6:16-19, "There are six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven whichare an abomination to Him: 17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, 19 A false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers."
  • Hosea 9:15, "All their evil is at Gilgal; indeed, I came to hate them there! Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of My house! I will love them no more; All their princes are rebels."

Are we to love the sinner but hate the sin?

Even as Christians, we cannot love perfectly, nor can we hate perfectly (i.e., without malice). But God can do both of these perfectly, because He is God. God can hate without any sinful intent. Therefore, He can hate the sin and the sinner in a perfectly holy way and still lovingly forgive the sinner at the moment of repentance and faith (Malachi 1:3; Revelation 2:6; 2 Peter 3:9).

Read more: Are we to love the sinner but hate the sin?

Do you love us enough to hear our heart?
10. Avoid hate the sin, love the sinner rhetoric

Now take a minute to listen to yourselves. Hate the sin, love the sinner comes across as mean-spirited instead of loving. We hear it as an ill-disguised attempt to seem loving when you really don't even like us let alone love us.

When it comes to sexual orientation, it is impossible to separate the sin from the sinner. Your heterosexual orientation is not something you do, it's who you are. In the same way, our orientation is not something we do, it's who we are. You can't hate our “sin” without hating us. Whether you agree or not is irrelevant. I'm just telling you how we perceive your rhetoric.
Jesus command us to preach the gospel.

What is gospel.

Preach the Gospel mean to tell that Jesus is the only savior.

Is that to judge other as not savior?

I don't know if it is consider to judge, but to say Jesus is the only savior, mean Buddha is not the savior, Mohammad is not, Hindu God is not.

Tell the truth is not judge, because we not punish them.

inquisition is an example of judge, because there is punishment involve.

to say bible is the truth mean say catholic is wrong because catholic teach again't the bible.

Is that to judge?

Otherwise we judge the bible is wrong (if we don't say catholic is lie)

We believe in intercession of the saints and you don't.
Your right I don't because their is no need to pray to a dead saint when you can pray to God directly in Jesus name.

There is no need for them to intercede as the bible says we have only one mediator between us and God; The Lord Jesus Christ !!!

There is a big difference in asking for another to pray for you, and praying to another to ask for you.
The Catholic church has changed the order around to make that which is not necessary to do into doctrine..............

Which goes back to the original standard; Why ask dead saints to intercede(mediate) for you to God, when that is the Lord's and the Lord's alone to do ???

It is because every body expose catholic as a liar?

God who command to love is also command to expose the darkness.

Mean expose the darkness is not hatred. Expose the darkness is love, so our catholic brother and sister able to see that they are walking in the direction of hell.

in other word if we afraid to be call to judge catholic, mean we not afraid to be call to judge the bible.

troll alert.

he thinks we will all go to hell, because we take the bible literally
Pfft. Taking the word of God literally? No one does that. What with all its fairy tales and easily ignored passages why would someone take it literally?

Young Earth Creation is the Truth. In the Book of Genesis God created everything in 6 days with each day being 24 hours.

Genesis 1:5
[SUP]5 [/SUP] And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

Nowhere in the Scriptures did God ever say it was Billions of years to create everything.

The problem is many people want to believe they are smarter than God when they teach it took God Billions of years to create everything. Many false Christians reject what God has said about creating everying in 6 days, and try to deceive the very Elect of God with their "Religion" of Evolution and Billions of years.

Young Earth Creationism is not a religion, its a fact!

On almost everything i am a biblical literalist and take the Bible as face value, but i struggle with a young Earth hypothesis. There is evidence on both sides, so in that issue i stay rather agnostic. I dont know.

To say though that there is no reason to believe YEC is to avoid the facts, just as it is to say there is No reason to believe OEC. The position i read and found to be lacking was Evolutionary creationist like van till.

We do believe in intercession for others nwc68.

1 Timothy 2:1-2
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
[SUP]2 [/SUP] for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

We just do NOT believe God intended this to be used by those who are dead in the Grave like Mary.

Mary cannot make intercession for us because she is dead in the Grave mwc68.

The Roman Catholic Church and you mwc68 are using intercession wrong. You are not doing it the way God wants us to do it, but this is no big surprise since you corrupt everything God says by doing it the way the evil Pope Francis wants it to be done and not how God says its to be done.

If you are talking about the first 11 chapters of Genesis, you are talking about interpretation. YECs and OECs can both provide "evidence" for their positions.

If you are talking about credible scientific information from reputable scientific sources, YECs have none.

There is no credible scientific information from reputable scientific sources that the earth is around 6,000 years old, that dinosaurs coexisted with humans, or that there was a global flood around 4,500 years ago.

My point is that a whole lot of those bashing Catholics on this thread are YECs.

You got YECs with all their nonsense bashing Catholics for what the YECs think is nonsense.

Hypocrites.

On the contrary i have read the YEC position and find it rather acceptable for the most part. If i wasnt a biochemist i might even believe it. The believe in the young earth genesis account isnt a theological sticking point though (unless YOU make it into one for YOURSELF).

Also, most catholocs arent believers so both your points are moot.

The Mary in the Bible is dead and in the grave. The Mary the Roman Catholics follow is a Demon.

It is true the Roman Catholic Church teaches only Mary had the power to Keep Jesus Christ free from sin. They teach God could not, that only Mary being without sin could keep Jesus Christ without sin. But the interesting thing is they teach the Mother of Mary did not have to be without sin. Hmmmm...interesting.

If God could not keep Jesus from sin, then He could not keep the Mother of Mary free from sin. Therefore this Doctrine is teaching it was by the power of Mary herself that she keep herself without sin and not God.

See how the Roman Catholic Church has put their Mary way above God!

This is why the Roman Catholics worship Mary so much more than God.
If the dead are dead and can't see, speak or hear, then please explain how Jesus was witnessed speaking with Moses and Elijah? Moses we know died and Elijah was "assumed " into heaven. How was Jesus able to speak with these saints ?

What's a catholoc?

Now, as far as Catholics go, of course most of them are believers.

In my opinion, if you say they are not, you are bearing false witness. You know, one of the 10 Commandments.

Tell people like Ken Ham and Dr. Dino (Kent Hovind) that YEC is not a theological sticking point.

Luc 6
32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Actually this is a flawed and unending debate not to engage in when it comes to Young Earth or Old Earth......

The reason is because the young earth defenders use the bible as their main source as should be, and which will always be rejected by old earth defenders who put their faith in a flawed dating system.

Every single one of the dating systems have been proven to be wrong do to different variables that can and does affect the result. They have done many tests to show how things being exposed for periods of high heat or extreme cold for instance does give off wrong dates for items.

Are you really that stupid mwc68? Nothing is impossible with God!

Jesus Christ was able to speak to them BECAUSE HE IS GOD!!!! Or could the real problem with you mwc68 is you do not believe that Jesus Christ is God mwc68? Maybe this is why you Worship Mary as your God everyday mwc68.

God had the power to bring Moses out of the Grave to talk to Jesus. The same with bringing Elijah out of Heaven.

The more i read what you say leads me to believe that you believe God is powerless and feeble. No wonder you Worship Mary as your God.

This is no big surprise mwc68. This is one of the main attributes of being a Roman Catholic. Most of the Roman Catholics today have very low IQ's and you fit in with the rest of them mwc68.

All of the intelligent people have left the Roman Catholic Church to become True Christians following God only.
