I have seen a lot of post lately that would suggest that some believe God wants believers to be poor and sick....Now I know some are trying to counter what they believe is false teaching, but you cant throw away the blessings and promises of God, just because you believe someone is misusing the truth.

"The blessing of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow".... Its absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

"by His stripes, we are healed" ..is absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

Now if anyone wants to be sick and poor, I will pray for you :)

If anyone wants to discuss these issue in a godly and respectful way? I will be glad to have that discussion :)

(about to go to work) so it might be later

I will post on this thread as well, as long as there are no attacks on each person posting. Thanks Mitspa for starting off with scripture. I think we should stick to scripture instead of our own emotions.

I'm happy for people who are monetarily comfortable, but IMO there comes a time to lucratively help others. And I'm not talking about the government taking from one and giving to another, I'm talking about individuals giving from the heart. What's the cutoff line? I don't know, but seriously, how much is enough?

The Parable of the Rich Fool

Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” Then he said to them,“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

I agree ...and a true believer would see the blessing of the Lord as a way to help others, but poor people can hardly feed themselves, much less feed other needy people.

God wants......
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares theLord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11

He also wants, obedience, praise, and to shower us with blessing.
Monies have zero to do with that in the physical sense. But if the Lord providing blessings through that way is in His wisdom.
Those who are poor monetarily, aren't always miserable.

If I may say so, just sort of a point of order, this thread title is one I'd avoid, and not being critical for the sake of being so, and only speaking for myself, nobody else. God may want individuals in various states, for His purposes, desirable and undesirable, so the premise there is only one thing, or another, is faulty, as all our experiences, our own and those of others in the faith, prove. Paul was clear about strength in weakness, which included a thorn in the flesh. There is no black and white in this. Also, I tend to shy away from speaking for God, saying what God wants or doesn't in such situations there's no blanket answer to, of a question that can lead to injecting our own errant minds and philosophies, thereby projecting them on to God, when God, Himself, has not spoken.

I agree but we do know His plans....thus my post, but you're right. We don't know His goal with each of us and how he gets us there. Petsonally, Ive been my strongest in the brokest (that a word) time of my life. Well said, JIA

My experience also, some of the most difficult times bringing God closer, emerging from some bad things with a better spiritual focus on things eternal. I don't mean to disparage the conversation of the thread, this why I was careful to state the opinion my own, alone, but just pointing out I cringe some, when people claim to speak God's mind for all people, in such more complex matters involving God's dealings with individuals. I've heard too many lies, this or that person is sick for sin, or poor for sin, or their lack of faith, and that's really offensive, at least to me, and most offensive to some dear saints, who, more than ever, need encouragement and to know that God loves them, not the philosophies of bellicose fools who can't speak correctly, of themselves, much less for God.

Scripture?

God might not WANT you poor and sick - but he also wants to conform you to the image of Christ. And with this intent in mind, circumstances are allowed to bring this about.

Sometimes He puts you in situations where you must develop the fruits of the Spirit to endure or be able to minister.
Sometimes He allows what you have placed your trust in (even money) to be shaken. You grow in dependency upon the Provider.

Mostly the Lord wants to reveal Himself to you in all His wonderful attributes.
It is only the sick who will ever experience Him as Healer.
It is only the poor who might see him as Provider.
It is the one in distress who knows Him as Comforter.

Or he allows us to learn from things that He never wanted to happen to us. Such as stepping out of faith and something bad happens to us. Yes God will use these tragedy's but He doesn't want these tragedy's to happen.

21. And he said, All these things have I observed from my youth up. 22. And when Jesus heard it, he said unto him, One thing thou lackest yet: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23. But when he heard these things, he became exceeding sorrowful; for he was very rich. 24. And Jesus seeing him said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25. For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (Luuk 18:21-25)

I do share my extra possession to the poor's, and live modest life, but I believe that I have not been ever so healthy like I am today.

So I do not regret that, instead I am grateful, that I this all has happen to me, that today I serve God, and not mammon.

And also for you I exhort that use the mammon of unrighteousness to works of righteousness, which when it fail, you have still the treasure in Heaven.

No one can't serve both God and mammon, ore love God and world.

Scripture?

Start with the book of Job. Could perhaps more on to Paul's thorn in the flesh teaching and his many distresses, just about anything in the Bible that wasn't a tiptoe through the tulips for the Lord's most faithful. You may even focus on the cross, as the ultimate will of God.

We live in a fallen creation, and we are not perfect beings in this earthly shell. Stuff happens to imperfect beings, and stuff happens in a fallen creation. Doesn't mean God is punishing, or torturing anyone just to make them stronger. Rather, in such times is when He is there for us if we turn to Him and truly have faith that He will see us through such times.

Stuff happens, but God can make something good come from that stuff if we believe in Him.

The early churches had to take up collections to help the poor saints in Jerusalem. God's will???

His will they were poor? Not in my opinion.

His will that the congregation join together to assist those in need? Yes.

The poor will always be with us.......some wise man once said that.

Romans 5:3-5 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

Did you pray for your computer to fail this morning, and for your spouse to have an automobile accident?

Why not. Wouldn't you be better off, spiritually, after a few things like that happened?

We can sometimes get our spiritual noses stuck so far in the air, that we have a hard time seeing past them to read the true meaning of many passages.

John 9:1-3 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

So it wasn't God's will but somehow they found themselves destitute? Who's will prevailed over God's will? Satan's will? I don't believe so.
